In 1975, I was nine years old back then when music was music. I remember watching TV shows, Saturday morning cartoons, 70's commercials, the toys, the magic eight ball, 45 records, a mixture of color TV with a record player on top. Those days are gone for good but not from our hearts.☮️👍😹✌️

So I was there for these. A time when musician meant you could play an instrument and singers actually sang their songs live. Any of the acts on this list could out perform anyone today. I feel sorry for todays generation all the know is substandard songs that is why so many are discovering these classics. The true golden age of POP music.

Good music was so important because there was no Netflix, cell phones , IMAX, IPOD.......Lots of pot and hanging out with anybody who had the time which was everyone. Listening and sharing was our musical currency. No Influencers, no angry rap, no American Idol, no selfies......quiet dreams allowed. Pass the joint and watch the fire. How I wish the 70s world return. The music was magic and every sound puts you in a place, with someone or doing something. It was a time when vocalists sang in melody and perfect harmony, when instumentalists played with their hearts, song writers composed through the soul and producers and arrangers were masters of their trade. They left us a legacy never to be repeated, only copied, immitated or versioned. The third rate music makers of today's generation have much to learn.

I was 15 and "that first kiss" music you'll never forget. Owned a few of these singles and albums. Doobie Brothers( oh black water!...was actually a "B" side that got air play and went to #1), Linda Ronstadt, Eagles and actually went to K.C. and the Sunshine Band(they were talented and fun) and Olivia Newton John concert. Elton John owned the 70's. When music was memorable.

I went back to 1975 a few months ago. It was a wild wonderful trip. You really forget all the little things that you had and didn't have. Like for example, you could just pull right up to a store. There were no handicapped spaces. There were no fire doors in buildings. You could enter any door or the back or sides. They were unlocked. My parents were alive again. Amazing how young they looked. I told my dad to PLEASE stop smoking. But the reason I really went back was to relive my junior prom. So I went back to May 9, 1975 to the old high school gym. It was decorated like a Hawaiian paradise. My body was transformed from its current 61-year-old flabbiness to my 15-year-old thin self. The first thing that struck me was how easily I could move, being 100 pounds lighter, how well I could see, and how good I felt. My date was right there in the gym waiting for me in her white dress with violet flowers, wearing the orchid on her wrist I'd bought her for $7. We did a slow dance. I'd forgotten how pretty she was, how tiny she was, and how wonderful her hair smelled. It was a peach shampoo she told me. I can still smell it 46 years later. I had had a big crush on her, unbeknownst to her. I thought she was way over my head, and that I had no chance. I had AGONIZED about how and when to ask her. When she accepted, about a week before the prom, I was walking on clouds. When I had that first slow dance with her, it was the first time I'd ever held a girl. And it was THIS girl. The one I'd dreamed about for so long. It was sublime. We left the prom during the band's intermission, and took a walk hand-in-hand on that perfect spring night. It was just like I remembered. Perfectly sweet and innocent. So beautiful. I can almost reach out and touch it.

As we get older, hearing the songs we grew up with, we sometimes yearn, like the song said: "Let's Do It Again!" I look at some of these people and the long, forgotten memories, flood back to be relived for a brief moment in the right now! I see albums that I still have and wish that I had the songs that I don't have. The 60's, 70's & 80's was a beautiful time to grow up. But for me, 1989 to the present....? That's life.

The first half of 1975 features the longest run of songs that were #1 for just one week each. Sandwiched between two Elton John singles (Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds before and Philadelphia Freedom after, each only at number one for two weeks) were no fewer than twelve consecutive records that had their one week at the top. That's reflective of a shakeup happening, with all those different artists and styles jockeying for position before music sank into its disco rut for the next five years.

ABBA's "SOS" is a glaring omission. One of the top songs in pop music history, huge in Britain. It did reach #15 on Billboard in U.S. 1975 was a good year.

SOS was played a lot in L.A. back then and was my favorite. Waterloo was the first hit I heard and probably at least a dozen more before the decade was out. Dancing Queen was huge. Their ‘wall of sound’ music is still timeless today. My uncle who runs a big business in Allentown once hired an ABBA cover band to play downtown and about half the city showed up. Agnetha had the voice of an angel.

From 1973 to about 1977 I listened to WABC AM in New York City, so of course I know most of these songs I know. I have to say that many of the songs from 75 to 100 I never heard before. And I listed to the radio a lot.
