Simon, I really can not properly describe the immense positive feelings I get from watching your videos. I will actually pause them and think about what it is that I am feeling and why. Simply put, your outward love of nature and the ability to simply state the reasons you choose to photography a particular scene. Along with the beautiful images you create there is one other thing about your videos that allows them to be more than just a talented fella wandering the woodlands pursuing a passion that he loves, and that is Meg. It is more than wonderful to watch you two enjoying life and each other. Being in the States it is highly unlikely that I will ever get to meet you both in person. But my heartfelt gratitude, love, and respect, will always be with you both. Thanks Simon, and thank you beautiful Meg! (-Book ordered, can not wait to get it!)

Pre-ordered my book. In my opinion, one of the best parts of KZbin is how it enables photographers to reach an audience that can then help support the photographer's work. Even though the book will set me back probably $80 (book + shipping to USA + the currency conversion), it's a small price to pay for the effort of making these videos and the enjoyment I get out of watching free content. Thanks Simon. Everyone who appreciates this content should get a copy to say thanks.

I love the still at 13:11 in this video. It breaks a rule. It's not the same as the featured square and 4 by 5 you showed before. This is because it does not have A subject. It does not show one thing, embedded into its surroundings with clean edges. It is wide landscape format. You look at the left, you look at the right, you look at the center and again at the left. You keep circling around discovering more and more details. There is no spot where the eye can rest. But what is out there from left to right, top to bottom, is pretty consistent in tone, rythm, texture, luminosity (only little brighter in the upper right which creates interest and does not disturb or pull out of the frame) and story. The invention of the "all over" was attributed to the USA painter Jackson Pollock. For me 13:11 breathes this spirit of all over, and let me be immersed to the nature I love.

You have a way with words and explanations, Simon! I especially liked your talk about connecting with nature rather than your gear. I find that when I 'connect' with an area, I make better images than when I don't. You have reminded me to seek the emotions in a scene rather than the technical aspects. Also you do a good job of explaining how you 'see' a scene in the tangled limbs of the woodlands. It helps to hear how you compose a scene. The images you got in today's video are amazing and you clearly demonstrate how you can create art from woodland scenes. Finally, I do enjoy watching Meg enjoy your wanders. She must be an absolute joy in your life. Thank you and good luck with your book sales.

Beautiful video of which I share every single word. The composition is probably at the apex of the pyramid of this photographic genre, it is the way to order the internal and external chaos, the equipment is only a means. Good luck for the book I can't wait to have in my library. At the beginning of the year it will be my book's turn.

I love watching your dog as much as I do your photographic experiences. I, too, had a four-legged photo field trip and camping buddy for several years. It seemed like she knew to always move off to the side so as not to be in the picture. She loved camping in the truck with me. She has been gone 7 years this month and I still miss her.

New sub. I have seen a lot of photography videos and your approach to each image is unlike anyone I've seen. Your explanation and thought process is on another level. You make the simplest of compositions spectacular. It seems you somehow bring more out of a scene than is actually there. A simple woodland scene turns into this incredible image, simply amazing! Thanks for sharing your work!

Older cameras do work well. I use an old D800, and consistently have photos accepted into two shows here in New Mexico in which less than half of the submissions are accepted. Content is king, not the technical stuff-to a point. That's your point here, of course. Oh, and "Hi Meg!"

Simon, you bring such positivity and certainly an appreciation for nature that I love so much. Woodlands are one of my favorite things to photograph. Watching your videos and "taking the trip" along with you and your awesome companion Max have become so valuable especially during the pandemic. Working seven days a week has meant there is no time to venture into the woods or do any photography for the past two years. But I have traveled with you and Max and have learned so much from your videos. The fact that they help me forget the stress of these times is just another wonderful benefit. Thank you for producing such awesome content. Please continue to teach us and share with us! Of course, I've ordered the Collector's Edition and can't wait to get it. I am blessed to travel with two Australian Shepherds (Rusty & Spencer) and my incredibly patient husband Charles as I seek to improve my photography. I can't wait for the time to resume those wonderful woodland times and for your next video too Simon! Peace to you and yours! Donna PS I do love my gear and the memories and moments they allow me to capture... but I love that you remind us not to forget what lies in front of the camera and where is should be in our priorities!

Love this channel and have been subscribed for years and will continue to do so, but I have seen lately a lot of KZbinrs saying how the gear does not matter while at the same time using very expensive top of the line gear! Hi! Thank you for watching and for your comment. However, please do listen to the video again because I never said that gear doesn't matter. I completely agree with you - gear does matter! I said as much in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZLIgmx7h65gr80 Part of my point was that some folk obsess over gear when they still have much to learn about how to make a good photograph. I spend a lot of money of some of my gear, but only once I know I'm ready for it and I feel like it will contribute to my workflow. I only upgrade when I've outgrown my tools. I would never say something as trite as "gear doesn't matter".

In one point I have to disagree: Nature is no part of us, we are part of nature … and only a small part. 🙂 I find myself often struggling with walking through untouched woodlands, feeling bad about „destroying“ what is around me.
