mine idles and cuts out on full throttle. It goes if I throttle and compress the primer bulb at the same though and then cuts out again. also is quite smokey. any ideas?

If you have the wrong fuel to oil mixture or old fuel it can cause it to do that. A clogged spark arrester and restricted carburetor could also cause this.

Your carburetor is dirty and you got to much oil in the gas you if it bogs down when you give it throttle then you need to set the low screw

It doesn't really need a spark arrestor in it it'll work fine without that screen it doesn't do much anyhow I'll bet your round screen inside the carburetor is dirty

Could not get my Stihl Trimmer to start no matter what. Changed the gas and plug with no effect. Looked at the spark arrestor which looked clear of any debris. Still removed it and brushed off some oily greasy residue on it with an old toothbrush and then re-installed. Could not believe it when it started right away.

My bogging down problem on my husqvarna 122 hd 45 was just the bad gas filter line. That trimmer sure uses a weird looking gas filter I've not seen before til then I wasn't gonna check the spark arrestor the trimmer is to new for that to be dirty and i didn't check that doesn't need done plus it wasn't having a start up or stalling out problem it had a bogging down problem while i had it aimed upwards in the air it was bogging down then would just shut off i reset its high and low 2 years ago so i know it wasn't that. Some people should know if they don't know your little spark plug coil can burn out on those just like on any other small engine stuff doesn't last forever and at some point needs new parts or used parts they work to. But a stalling out problem is usually a dirty carburetor or your little rubber gasket at the back or bottom of the carburetor in it could be the little round screen in the carburetor is full of dust could be a dirty air filter could be bad gas for it to stall could be needing the h and L reset to I had a bad coil on weed eaters before so i know those do go out my weed eater been needing a metering diaphragm in it for a year now but i don't like weed eatering so i don't care to fix it and keep using it how it is

You forgot about a worn or dirty spark plug.
