Similar trimmer with the same issue here - Idles fine but when you hit the gas it just bogs down and quits. Spark arrestor screen and exhuast was pretty clean but I cleaned those anyway. Entirely disassembled and cleaned carb, which was very clean already. Replaced fuel filter which was also pretty clean. Used all new TruFuel 50:1... Still I'm getting the bog-down issue. With each video I watch and with more research I find additional helpful tips but maybe I need to go back over the carb again and make sure that roller is there and go over the jets again.

Make sure the metering diaphragm is very rubbery and flexible and not stiff at all. Also you can try to adjust the carburetor
@mjay4700

@@helpinguonline Thanks for your reply. The diaphragm is pretty flexible and doesn't seem stiff. 1 year old machine so everything is pretty new on it. Yes I think either carb adjustment or new carb is needed. These aluminum carbs get corroded and eaten away by the additives in modern gasoline, especially standard 87 octane.

I installed a new carb, fuel lines, spark plug, spark arrester and my FS38 still will not run. Unfortunately I have to take it in to a shop. I still can't figure out why it won't run. Runs for 30 seconds and then dies. After that, will not start at all. I can't adjust the hi and low on the carb because it doesn't run at all.

Two quick questions. 1. Where did you get your work station table outside? 2. What’s the best way to get gas smell off? (Started my own little business and working on these all day your hands start to smell)
@helpinguonline
@helpinguonline Жыл бұрын
The table was given to me... It is actually a foldable sawhorse. Not sure if they are manufactured anymore? I have never thought about fuel and grease smell on my hands and no one has ever said anything in all my years. I usually use a hand cleaner if they are real bad...sometimes Purple Power but it is a little harsh. otherwise I use Dawn if the grease isn't too bad.

My Echo String Trimmer takes forever to start. It’s got good spark, I’ve replaced all of the fuel lines etc. You can tell it wants to go as it will kick and then some smoke comes out from the exhaust but it never fully starts. Then when it does it’s like it hates it and is bogged. Then I leave it over night and it seems fuel got to my air filter. Not sure what to do at the momentz
@helpinguonline

Could be a number of things… Start simple and work your way through it. Hard to tell from here what it might be but Since you have spark and I assume good compression… I would make sure that you have good fuel without water in it, the carburetor is properly adjusted

My Echo starts up and works for about 10 minutes, then dies. I smell a lot of fuel odor, and it appears that fuel has "waterlogged" the AIR Filter. If I let it sit overnite and the fuel has dripped out of the air filter, I'm able to start it again. How do I stop the fuel from waterlogging the air fllter?
@helpinguonline
@helpinguonline Жыл бұрын
Sounds like your needle valve in the carburetor is sticking. I would recommend taking the carburetor apart and rebuilding it or at least cleaning it and make sure the diaphragm is not stiff but is still pliable and flexible.

Good information but there’s a few items that I would check first before you do anything to the carb. First and foremost, make sure that the piston isn’t scored before you waste any time on a burned up engine. Second, Make sure that the exhaust is free and spark arrestor is clean. Third, make sure that the tank vent is working properly along with checking the air and fuel filters like you did. I would also make sure if you clean the carb to change both diaphragms.
@UTube_userRM
@UTube_userRM 2 жыл бұрын
So, how can we check that "the piston isn't scoured"? When you check, how can you confirm that it cannot be repaired ie is some scouring acceptable? Thank you.
@helpinguonline
@helpinguonline 2 жыл бұрын
You can check for scoring on the piston by removing the muffler. Once that is removed you can see the piston to check for vertical lines scored in the piston.
@carlodonnell146

yes the tank vent how can I tell on the troybilt tank cover if the vent is open I don't see any marks indicating so and the cover does have a turning piece.
@carlodonnell146
@carlodonnell146 Жыл бұрын
I think a compression test would answer that question. The piston on mine is a little scored but the compression is 120 psi . If the exhaust or the carburettor intake is removed the piston is visible if you pull the starter slowly @@UTube_userRMI would say that the rings and the cyl wall are more important than the piston though; of course I am not a total expert yet!!

Echo egder runs and starts great, butni can't leave fuel in it. It siphons out whennit sits. I've tried standing it up, leave it flat, it doesn't matter, it still empties the fuel tank. So now i drain the fuel after ever use. Quite annoying.

Hast to be a leak somewhere… If the fuel is coming out of the muffler then your needle valve in the carburetor might be stuck open due to a stiff diaphragm. Otherwise I assume you have a leaky fuel line or a crack in the gas tank or loose fitting fuel lines coming through the tank or something?.
@dougdavid9321
@dougdavid9321 Жыл бұрын
@@helpinguonline it leaks out thru the muffler. Before it empties and I try to start it, it's flooded. I guess it's time to pull the carb and see what's up.
@helpinguonline
@helpinguonline Жыл бұрын
Most likely the needle valve is stuck open and there is a good chance that the diaphragm that operates the needle valve is stiff and no longer flexible. If that is the cause you will have to get a rebuild kit for your carb or buy an aftermarket carb to replace yours (aftermarket carbs are hit and miss in terms of quality). Lastly, your carb may have debris in it causing the needle to stick open. Cleaning the carb would remedy that.. Wishing you the best with your project.
