I run a JL Aduio XD 600 / W6 setup in one vehicle and love it. Decided to go a little cheaper on another vehicle and went with the Alpine S-A60M / S-W10D4 setup and I was honestly blown away by how well it performed. It performed so well that I purchased the same Alpine setup for someone else and they couldn't believe the results either. Alpine makes very good products that are budget friendly.

I’ve been running an Alpine PDX1.600 for some years now, and it’s been great, other than the power terminal stripping out. That amp was a huge deal for me when I was younger and got it used in a trade because I know it sold originally for right around $1 per watt. The 600w regardless of having a 2 or 4 Ω load is very interesting as well. It still cranks out the power in my car to this day. Always been an Alpine fan. Also, back when subs weren’t requiring a thousand watts just to move, this 600w was a beast. It’s been hooked up to a pair of JL 12W6v2 (600w rms each) and pushes them greatly. Not a competition build by any means but I have it turned down a couple notches even at that.

For my personal setup I have an Alpine S-A60M with a kicker L7S 12 in the loaded enclosure from Kicker and this little amp puts out a lot of power and my sub is thundering. People think I have 2 12s or that I have a 1500+ watt amp but I show them everything and they are extremely surprised to see that little amp making my subwoofer hit that hard. I got buddy’s who have skar audio 12s with a 2000 watt amp and there setup cannot compete with mine. Efficiency and clean power is all you need for your setup to hit hard!!!!

Big D, I found the comments you made about what the average consumer wants at the beginning of the video to be very interesting. I'm 64 years old. I purchased my first car in 1978 for $500 and spent $500 on the audio system, which I installed myself. 2 6X9 coax in the rear parcel shelf, 5 1/4 coax in the doors, and a 10-inch woofer in a box I made myself from wood I scavenged from a construction site in the trunk. A Pioneer in-dash AM/FM Cassette and an Audiovox (I think) 'power amp' EQ under the dash. When I cranked the volume, there was more hiss than the snake house at the local zoo. Distortion? Maybe 20%, if not more. Now I drive a small SUV with an upgraded factory audio package. It sounds better than the audio system in my living room, most likely because the car components were carefully engineered to the car's body, turning it into a giant speaker box. Size and cost do matter, but skillful engineering matters more, no upgrades from me needed, much to my wife's relief. 😄

As an Alpine fan/user since the late 80’s I can attest to them never skimping on quality components or build quality. Back in the day if you wanted Alpine on a budget you could shop the few dealers who carried them for customer returns. Back then Alpine did not automatically credit retailers for returns so their stuff would actually go to the Alpine service center in SoCal for testing if a customer brought it back. The benefit to the customer was that these items would come back with a bench test report, which meant their amplifiers came with an actual hand written “rebirth sheet”. These reports revealed that their amps at the time were consistently underrated by around 20%.

@@12pagani In the early 90’s I built a system in my ‘69 Ford Thunderbird using all Alpine except for the speakers. I don’t remember the model numbers but it had one of the better CD head units, a dual zone equalizer, and an active crossover for the subs. I had a 60 watt 2 channel driving a set of Polk Audio 6.5” separates and a bridged 100 watt 2 channel driving 4 Redline 8” subs. Glad you finally got to test this one. It quickly became one of my favorite amps and I ended up owning 4 of them, but no one had done any testing on it. It's basically the upgraded version of the MRV-M500 and if they had called this something that included "M600" it probably would've been even more popular, the name they chose doesn't let the average person know that it is a 600w amp. By the way, have you considered testing any headunit "power pack" type amplifier. I'm tempted in buying an Alpine KTP-445 since something that tiny and simple to install is rated at 45wx4, but the 15A fuse makes me skeptical.

I would love to see a comparison of gross wattage input versus net wattage per driver driven after the crossover, preferably in a 3-way. Or maybe at 1 watt in, as a standard. I would think the difference would indicate a crossover efficiency, if there is such a thing. I run that deck it's very nice, miles ahead of the old stuff we used to run. Only thing I don't like is the sub-out control you can't disable the crossover so an Epicenter is out, and it also acts as a bass boost above the middle point on the potentometer, which of course leads to clipity clip pretty easily. I just used one of the full rande outputs. Other than that, very nice.

It has enough power to shake everything in the car and the pictures on peoples walls as I drive by. I also prefer the way it sounds over the pioneer 600W amp I have. Would love to try the S-A60M but I can't justify the $400 CAD just for a couple hundred extra watts of power. Also if possible, I would love to see the Alpine KTA-30MW Tough Power Pack tested. Will this amp be fine to run with two 10in 2ohm Alpine SWT-10S2?

I'm running with two S-W10D2's and it sounds great. Did you end up going with? My only concern is the lack of SSF running ported.

Hello my friend! Very good content. Have you considered doing some tests on the Helix M line amplifier brand ? Or the Helix D One monoblock ? Cheers!!!

I know this is an older video but it did put out 1200 watts on the sub when you connected the SMD Meter! That's over the dynamic burst number.
@wal Жыл бұрын
Yes the AMM-1 measures power output in real time and it’s possible for a momentary burst of that much power

My PDX M6 (one of the fire hazard models that Alpine never admitted was defective or a fire hazard) was rated for 620 or 640 at both 4 ohm and 2 ohm, whereas other were rated well above 700 watts at the time. No idea how Alpine rates these, and I always assumed they used some sort of programmable load SMD tester. I think in the past it was far easier and a safer bet for the manufacturers to just design for an underrated the power rating to avoid getting accused of selling something less to the customers. That's for only the reputable manufacturers that design new boards. Now they are able to make these amps so that you get more or less the exact rating...partially why they are so compact now.

The PDX m6 I had was great until it randomly started throwing out 30+ volt DC, and almost fried my morel Ultimo. Worked for like 1.5 years. Had to throw it out. I spoke to Alpine and they NEVER admitted anything was wrong with the amp. I've seen hundreds of people complaining of the same issue online. Oh well

The alpine probably has a protection for 1ohm loads in it??

I don't usually do car stuff anymore but when I do I wreck the budget like Tiger in a PGA tour rental... So I don't do it, but I like to keep up with the scene.

Hi. Really appreciate all the great videos Bid D! Friend runs an Alpine R-A75M @ 0.5 ohm small sealed box in his ute (Two 10" type R dual 2 ohm all coils in parallel) We wired it @ 2 ohm initially but thought to try 0.5 ohm thinking it probably won't like it. Pushed very hard daily for about a year now, no issues sounds great and definitely much more output. His pioneer 8601 mono amp would pulse in and out of protect trying to drive the same 0.5 ohm wired sub at high output. Please test it! Cheers Paul G Melb. Australia 🙂

Do you think car audio will ever improve on sound quality? Most all the amplifiers sound the same. Low quality power supply only makes terrible crossover sound worse?

I've always thought Alpine had quality products at a decent price( you get what you pay for). Purchased this Amp(in 2021) and a 10 inch sub(both Alpine) from Crutchfield and proceeded to miss-wire the sub at 1ohm! (I know, I know! How Rookie!! The good news is it lasted 6 months this way. The bad news....Called the Crutchfield helpline and was informed the Amp stopped working because "it's not 1ohm stable". So great!! I just crapped away $200.... because I can't follow a wiring schematic. The best news........Crutchfield sent me a new Amp! For free!!(with complementary wiring instructions included) Haha. Great Amp! And great service from Crutchfield!! Until they put an idiot clause in the warranty anyway.......
