Those were actually active service Spanish Army vehicles, bought from the US by the then-Franco regime. The Patton production not only borrowed the vehicles, but hired the crews and Spanish soldiers as extras. As far as I'm aware, most of the tanks and troops came from the Brunete Division, now disbanded and reorganized. One of their main bases was at El Goloso (Madrid), pretty close to where I live, is still occupied by one of it's successor units, and is host to a modest armored vehicle museum.

In the original Tuntematon sotilas (Unknown soldier, 1955) -film theres a Panzer IV J playing a role of a KV-1. They did not even modify it. Only thing that shows that it's supposed to be a Russian tank is the red stars painted onto it. It was used because unlike KV's, Pz. 4s were still in service/reserve at the time.

Real reason was, at that time, military high command was annoyed by interpretation of officers in earlier military comedy movie and refused to participate in any movie done by the production company. After watching White Tiger the first time, I tried to figure out what tank they were using for the supernatural Tiger tank. I read some article that claimed the movie company had a visually good replica built but after running it a few times, the tracks started to break apart. Apparently they didn't have time to have new tracks made so they went with a vis-modded IS-2 instead because one was quickly available (however while the vis-modding required hiding the wheels to prevent it being identified as a Soviet tank, I think all it really did was make it look too weird to be convincing!). How true that is I have no way of knowing, it was an article on the internet I read six or so years ago, so take it for what that's worth.

If you want tank nightmares try " The Fighting Seabees " starring John Wayne I think they slapped whatever sheet metal that they had on to some bulldozers. Then called it a Japanese tank.

1:53 It's definitely a Pz34-R (Panzer 34 Russisch) during the first two years of the war with the Soviet Union captured many T-34 of earlier models. about 200 were moved to Germany Where they were modified and added a Pz-3 cupola for tank commander-gunner to see outside without opening the hatch. These tanks went back to Russia in summer 1943 and were mostly destroyed during Bagration operation.in 1944.

As Leonard Pimf Garnell use to say, "Bravo, bravo, wasn't that extruiatingly bad!" But at least they made an attempt instead of just slapping on different markings like in so many other war movies, like American M47 Tiger tanks in Battle of the Bulge, or American M48 Tiger tanks and American M41 Sherman tanks in Patton.

You choose between "Wrong tank but ture story" or "True tank but wrong story" Fun FACT : Movie name FURY got 4 real historical tank even Tiger is real. But I must call "Anit Infantry Movie" because German side has Tiger I only so this movie has One Tank battle. Remain is Kill Infantry. Fury is worse tank battle movie as I saw.

Also like in that film the tiger kills nearly the whole unit (with tactics that are terrible) and fury can easily kill it from the front, but no gotta spread the myth five sherman to a tiger. Yea it's a terrible film for historical accuracy kinda cool action tho

The 1944 Australian war movie 'The Rats of Tobruk' used AC-1 'Sentinel' tanks (The only AFV designed and built in Australia btw...) to stand in for Panzers, the vismodding is very limited, but it's the only motion footage I know of with those tanks. And then of course there is the 1969 'Battle of Britain' film where in the prologue there is the sight of an M-7 'Priest' pretending to be a Sturmgeschütz, the markings appear to be period correct, but it's the wrong countries tanks. Also dating from around that time is an Italian war film called 'Eagles over London' where you have unmodified Leopard I tanks in what looks to be correct 1940 markings playing at Panzers.

You missed completely the Libyan movie "Lion of the Desert", made under the direction of Colonel Gaddafi, that included about a two dozen replicas of Fiat-3000s and Lancia Armoured Cars (and Ansaldo light bombers). Interestingly for such an obscure movie that he actually spent a lot of oil money on trying to create decent movie vehicles.

There is a movie from the early 1950s called “Here come the Tanks” - which is about the 4th AD a few months after D-Day. They have lots of great shots of Shermans and a Pershing at the end of the film - however the cursed “tank” in the film is a M36 Jackson that is suppose to be a Panther - it doesn’t even come close - much worse than any in this list.
@kobeh61853 жыл бұрын
Some that I really like were the "BT-7s" in My Way. Also, im glad you didnt include some of the media that just paints a tank with other colors, such as The Man In the High Castle, and Battle of the Bulge.

Fury tanks were fine. It showed a wide array of Shermans from the Easy 8, which was actually an M4A2 (76) W HVSS to older M4A1s with 75mms. And also, props to them for using a real Tiger 1(the only running one I think from Bovington Tank Museum).

@@amichiganboiwhosereallazy1544 That's more the physics than the tanks (except for the Tiger P) but apart from that they use real model of tanks. Also it's an anime about school girls driving tanks. WHY DID YOU EXPECTED IT TO BE REALIST?

You didn't even notice the stunted KV1 in the film tankers, instead going for the decent Pz IV mockups? That KV has a turret of the correct size, but the hull is stunted and looks even smaller than the T-34s it drives along with.

Loved this video. I have to give these movie makers credit. I hearken back to the days when films used unmodified M47's, M48's to portray Tigers or generic German tanks and Chafees to portray US tanks. Even though their tanks are sometimes silly looking, at least they're trying. Not everybody can get the Bovi Tiger for their films. Perhaps the Pershing was based on a Chinese tractor rather than a tank?
@thesaredunit27914 жыл бұрын
The tank on #6 of the list from the movie White Tiger was actually a German Prototype tank, the VK 45.01 (P) made in 1942 during the 2nd world war by Porsche. It was meant to be a heavy tank boasting the 8.8 cm KwK 36 L/56 cannon but failed due to a host of mechanical issues, not to mention a very unstable transmission that allowed it to reverse just as fast as it would moving forward. Only 1 "Command Tiger" saw service while the other chassis were converted into what would be referred to as the Elefant Tank Destroyer. :)
@speedandstyletony4 жыл бұрын
I much prefer to see an attempt to recreate a tank over just using whatever. So many movies, especially in the 50s - 70s, just used what was current. Kelly's Heros might have been the first to at least try. Of coarse when you have a limited budget corners have to be cut someplace.
@JopardBDS2 жыл бұрын
To my mind the Kelly's Heroes tiger was one of the best Tiger mock ups. Unless you do some serious engineering the lack of overlapping road wheels will give away any attempt to impersonate late war German armour. Also by stressing the rear attacks (based on Odd-ball's comment) they reduced the number of side shots which are the big give away
@heinrich91253 жыл бұрын
There's a Romanian movie called "noi cei din linia întâi", where they use a T-34-85 for a Tiger, but all they do is put some boxey strips across the middle, not even bothering to try to change the turret. Definitely the most cursed tank imo
