The HISS tank’s elevating turret is actually a very interesting concept to me. I’d imagine it would have to be like the Armata turret with no crew in it. The idea would be that the tank could sit behind a hill or other such cover, raise its turret, and engage the enemy while keeping the crew safe. I know a hull-down position does the same thing, but the elevation capability would provide more versatility, allowing the tank to go hull-down behind much higher cover

@@Vorteks47 yeah. Overall I wouldn’t expect such vehicles to be a MBT, more like American turreted tank destroyers than anything. #7 (2:50) The interesting thing is that despite being a movie prop it's actually a fully functional tank: It can propel itself, it is made out of real steel plates (though not of armor-grade quality), and even the guns are real (it was cheaper to buy them than to build them). If that movie prop was sent back in time to the movie's setting (1937), it could be used as a real tank.

My favorite thing about those is that there's a number of ArmA 3 mods to add 40k gear and vehicles, and in almost all of them the already janky ArmA physics engine throws an absolute tantrum because its trying to comprehend the absurd centers of gravity on Imperial vehicles. Hydras pretty much flip over and somersault down hills as often as they drive in a straight line.

That G.I.Joe tank creation is mostly based on the British Praying Mantis MG Carrier , a not so non-existing or fake tracked vehicle .The Praying Mantis was an experimental machine gun carrier designed by a private developer for the British Army during the Second World War. It is in competition with the Kugelpanzer as one of the strangest armored vehicle designs ever produced. It could be said that it is 'typically British' in its eccentricity. That Hydra tank's gun seems based on a 600mm Karl Morser but integrated into a far more protected & huge tracked gun emplacement .

BTW the tank from Indiana Jones is actually a replica of german modification of captured British Mark IV, its turret is made by Krupp and originally made for the Großtraktor medium tank that newer got in production. Only 6 German Mark IV variants were in real life. All were used for training purpose like the Großtraktor was. I think why they did it from bulldozer in Indiana Jones, because originally also Mark tanks were originally designed from tracked farm tractors/bulldozers.

Just seeing the moon tank move does tend to make one think there's an actual tracked vehicle under there, you can see the driver "chopping up" the turns into straight segments, a process that keep the tracks from walking off their moorings. Given the timeframe, it was probably a war surplus Bren Gun Carrier or derivative, as they were available in such great numbers that at least one guy bought one to use as a garden tractor.

I'd just like to know where does the Tank(s) from League of Extraordinary Gentlemen fit? Being loosely based upon the unmade Mk.VI British tank (little history lesson the Mk.II & Mk.III were batches of Mk.I with the in-field improvements incorporated; the Mk.IV was the "Full Facelift"/ mid-series upgrade; the Mk.V was another one; the Mk.VI was to be a "François style" with a single central hull mounted cannon and machine guns in the near flush side doors; the Mk.VII was to be a stretched Mk.V with both cannon and machine guns in sponsons; the Mk.VIII was the "Liberty" which was a more rounded rhomboid and never saw service other than "training"; the Mk.IX and Mk.X were early Armoured Personnel Carriers, with sliding side doors, if they didn't asphyxiate them first.) However considering the film is set at that 1898-1900 period, that's about 17-19 years too early.... the other contender as inspiration is the infamous "Steam Tank" prototype, a steam powered Mk.V, but larger, and fitted with a flame thrower.

At the beginning of the 20th century, a super-secret battle tank was built in the laboratories of the First Reichsmacht, which possessed combat power and superweapons, which were long ahead of their time. In order to test the tank, and at the same time not to destroy Europe ahead of time, it was thrown into Central Africa to enslave the rebellious Zusuls. After a while, for safety reasons, everyone who knew about the existence of this project was destroyed, and the tank was forgotten. However, its fearless crew consists of: - Commander, Major von Schwalzkopf XII, - gunner Hans Schmulke, - and simple soldiers of Drankel and Zhrankel, did not forget about their great mission and were ready to fulfill their duty to the end.
