After detailing thousands of cars, I've noticed some of the small mistakes that can make a big difference in your car's appearance. Often it's knowing what to avoid that is most important for protecting the condition of your car. Less can be more, when it comes to detailing.
Be sure to down load the free PDF from www.ammoNYC.com.

When a bird poos on my car, I always poo on top of it to show the birds that it's MINE. After a day or two, the birds get the point and I wash it off with a strong stream of urine(drink lots of beer and hold it as long as possible), this is also done to show the birds who is the dominant alpha male. I then remove the residue with a clean microfiber towel.

Alternatively (if the poo dried out too much and sticks strongly) you can drink a few more beer and pre soften it with aggressive puke. Then use the strong steam of urine and of course at the end remove all the residue with a new microfiber towel.

A detailer at Purdue told me the same thing, in fact he showed me, but I was never able to duplicate what he did. It always just smeared the ink when I tried.
@ryannow
@ryannow 9 жыл бұрын
Arielle West You have to use older newspaper, stuff that's been sitting around for a few days, so that the ink has had a chance to set. Its cheap, so use a new piece for every window, and if that doesn't work, then the problem would have to be with some sort of solvent(!!) in your glass cleaner causing the ink to come off of the paper.

took apart, painted and put togheter, polished, waxed both interior and outside on 2 cars that hadd crashed and we rebuilded them i think it was 2 years ago and it was an SL 65 AMG and an Dodge viper srt10.. it was really cool becus the viper have been my dreamcar since i was littel and now randomly a guy call and wanted actully 2 vipers and one amg to get fixed and painted but we didint have time so he send the second viper to an really know proffesional painter/builder so they could get them all cars finnish on one time.. funny thing was that the viper that got send to the place came out to be a very bad job, and the amg/viper that i put my hands on came out to be the best :) maan i was proud when i heard that, ofc i put alot of work in the polishing and waxing but was tottaly worth it.. now the both cars is just sitting in an big barn becus they dont have time to drive it and they dont want it to get dirty :D its like almoust 3 years since we fixed them..

Jay Simons I use VinylX (by Lexol) on every car which has vinyl. It makes it look like new, with a sheen, not a shine. Armorall is just nasty to use on pretty much anything automotive. They use polymers to dry out quickly and leave a nasty white film so that you'll constantly redo the job and spend more on their products.

my guess is he uses the kind that he sells/is sponsored by. he probably uses just any "ammo" spray wax. I don't know this for a certainty but it seems to me that most of these detailing videos are mostly to promote product, so i would imagine that you really could get away with using any old spray wax. you could pick up some mcguires or mothers at your local walmart. If I am wrong in saying this please feel free to correct me but that is my best guess.

In most of the vids he does, he tries not to name drop products because he wants the video to be informative and not a commercial. Just use a good quality spray wax and you should be fine. Mainly, it's for lubing the paint so you won't scratch it.

Excellent advice and tips. I can't say I'm very mechanically inclined, but I do frequently wash, clean and detail my car and take pride in showing it off at shows. Get all the information you can and learn as much as possible. Having to go through the results of poor product, tool or technique is never fun. I'm guilty of the car soap on mats, but removed them and soaked them significantly, multiple times while hanging to make sure all the soap was gone and hang them to dry in the sun for a while before putting them back in the car. I only did this for the initial interior cleaning after I bought the car (Road salt! Never again!) - I now stick to proper carpet cleaner and scrubbing as shown in the video. My favorite mistake is using harsh cleaners on wheels - I used it on weekly washes but, even with prompt rinses, started to wear down the coating. I've recently bought new wheels and it's just water, soap and wax for them!

Space Woona If you put in a little effort to learn some bits and pieces about the mechanical workings of your car, you could save thousands of dollars. The PCV piping in my car needed to be replaced, and my mechanic quoted me 700 dollars, because the way my engine bay is set up, it would require that the engine get pulled out in order to replace. The majority of the mechanic's bill is labour cost, and not the part itself.

Very helpful video! After testing myself, the only thing I failed on throughout the video was the dashboard cleaning. Two thing that I think are worth mentioning: -Know what your wheels are made of. (using chrome wheel cleaner on polished aluminum wheels can mean DISASTER) -Make sure you are using an ammonia free cleaner on the inside of your glass if your windows are tinted. Both of those can really spell disaster if they are not known.

so you represent AMMO and conveniently AMMO products are the BEST for EVERY APPLICATION? lol. This is just a commercial. I also like when you 'clean' imaginary dirt and then say 'look how clean that is'. It was already clean. Mistake number one, pretending to use the products properly instead of cleaning a dirty car. Then it might be difficult to advertise your products because they would have to actually work.

The carpet foam cleaner didn't look like his product. He used lexol on the dash. He doesn't have a glass cleaner. I don't remember if that spray wax was his... But regardless he never once specifically named his products. He said he likes tire gels better than tire shine/dressing. And he said he likes to use a specific shampoo for the paint and another for the wheels. He never said I'm a big fan of AMMO brand shampoo that I make which you can buy at AMMO.com. Plus wouldn't you sort of expect him to use his products? Just my 2 cents.

To be honest if you watch his own KZbin channel he is one of THE best detailers in the world. You only have to look at the cars he details to see that. His products do work as he has a big input into them. I don't remember him recommending his products in this video.

@jarrus464 Heavy compounds are usually needed on head lights. Bec plastic is harder than clear coat... U basically have to move up the "abrasives scale" to achieve any results. Email me thx

Thank you for these awesome tips. I've had my car for 3 years now and the paint looks as good as it did when I drove off the lot. 0% swirls and I always use lubricants when removing dust. I learned a few more things from this video that I will try on my car.

I've been sub-contract and my own detailing for 6 years, I do mostly luxury cars, this guy has good suggestions, I don't agree with them all but like any job everyone has their own way. I'm glad he took the time to talk about wax residue. I despise when I get a customer takes it upon them self to wax a car, allow harden over winter then bring it to me to for a detail. Hardened wax is obnoxious, it can be time consuming which ends up costing the customer more. And it looks absolutely horrible.

The past year, I started using Optimum No Rinse waterless wash as a quick detail spray. This stuff picks up dust and makes all surfaces look great in minutes. I use the wax formula on my wheels to reduce brake dust from building up.

Lots of good tips. The only I take exception to is the duster. I have been using it for some time on my black challenger with good results. Generally following it up with a detailing wax specifically for black cars

I did work as detailer in BMW dealership and it's good to see that I learned there usefull things :) Nr5 is very good tip since spray wax really acts as prtection/lube/cleaner but bird poo (agressive on BMW paint) was first pressure washed than some 4800 rubbing compund and ultrafine rubbing finish. I'm talking about one week poo. Separate buckets also good idea. We used separate shammys for wheels and paint and rest of the stuff was paint specific.

Great points about how people detail wrong. Some safety tips in here as well. I don't think most people understand the value in a proper wash mitt. Cleaning windows is brutal. Great points on how to make it bearable. Will try this next wash. Thanks for the great video. Larry, you may have the best job in the world :-)

Excellent advice. I am guilty of the wash-bucket as well as the damn dust wand. I detail my baby to release stress. I have a seriously stressful gig and nothing calms me more than getting my hands on my Z4M Roadster and making it squeaky clean. It's definitely a laborious endeavor, but... At the end, you simply can't argue with the results. Then it time to take it for a spin :) Thanks again for the tips. Will be ordering your products today.
