12 Days of Christine is, in my opinion, the best half hour of TV ever. Each time I watch it, I spot additional details. It is perfect.

I completely agree. I discovered this series a week after I came home from the hospital (two weeks ago), having had two surgeries to remove a brain tumor. That episode was brought up as THE episode to watch in the video I saw discussing it, so it was the first episode I watched. The entire episode had me tearing up, with the ending leaving me speechless. I have no idea if this tumor is malignant or benign, if I have years or months, but that episode spoke to me in a way I've never experienced before. The timing of me finding this series, and watching that episode first...amazing. I will recommend that episode and this series to everyone I know.

I came into contact with this series through my Audiovisual Translation master's degree. We had to translate the first 3 minutes of "Zanzibar" into Spanish. The iambic pentameter was the hardest part, because the point of the episode was the Shakespearean poetry and we had to keep it and get creative with it (there is no iambic pentameter in Spanish). It remains one of my favorite TV episodes ever due to its sheer level of creativity.

A Quiet Night In is marvellous, maybe my favourite thing about it is that, given that it's a silent episode, Charlie Chaplin's granddaughter is in it. My favourite, however, of those I've seen so far (still catching up), is The 12 Days of Christine, which is just shatteringly brilliant (no, I didn't see it coming). I understand you leaving it off your list as there are so many good ones to choose from. Thanks for the Gaslight info - I never knew about that. And you have to credit 4 people for LOG - Jeremy Dyson was also crucial to its success, though not on screen.

Thank you for introducing me to this franchise!!!! This is some of the tightest writing and direction I've seen on TV. Its like the best bits of The Twilight Zone, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Black mirror, and Frye and Laurie had a collective love child and named it Inside No. 9 And I'm glad I took your advice and binged the first couple seasons of The League of Gentlemen first - to gain an appreciation for their style before diving into No. 9 And the emotional range of the show is uncommonly far-reaching, going from guffaw-funny, to shocking, to heart-rending. 12 Days of Christine choked me up as bad as the first 10 minutes of Up. Jesus. Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton are geniuses. So happy to comment here to document my appreciation. Thanks mate!

(He also introduced me to a number of other British programs while I repaid in kind with some American stuff, like Firefly and Mystery Science Theater 3000.) Needless to say, these guys stuck with me, as did Royston Vasey. I am excited whenever I see any of the Gentlemen anywhere and will now seek out Inside No 9 to scratch that itch. I did notice them in Horrible Histories as well, I think starting season 3..? Not sure. Was lovely to see all 3 of them together again, even for such a small skit, though reoccurring. @roberth13222 жыл бұрын
Billy, I think it's always been the standard, 6 episodes per series - Fawlty, Blackadder etc. It sort of fits with the US standard of, I think 13 weeks per season, which fits with a quarter year - the 6 for the UK is almost an eighth of a year but with room to fit something else in if something important and topical happens (like, topically, a royal death) and the BBC or whoever have to postpone something. Not sure why it's 6 rather than, say, 12 though. I suppose 6 is less of a gamble, in case it's not a hit.

The beauty of this show is that *none* of the episodes are better by a landslide: at least half of the episodes are just as good - if not better - than 12 Days of Christine. Entirely based on your personal taste isn't it. Tom & Gerri was easily my favourite, but it really is tough to choose a favourite when every episode is so good.
@vuraxis9535 жыл бұрын
@@Lucas-kn4zu for me the top end of the show is dominated by episodes that are, indeed, at very much the same level, but the insane impact of Christine's twist ment that I had to put it above the others, because I haven't been left with my mouth open by anything other than that and the film American history X. Besides, the acting is great and I appreciate the drawn back amount of comedy and the way they managed to put such a substantial part of someone's life into 30 minutes. All throughout the episode, that technique feels like just something to advance the story of Christine's life, and in that regard it tricks you into a false sense of security before hitting you with that reveal, and no other episode has left me that amazed. I believe Heaven sent to be the best DW episode for the same reason: everything builds up to this insanely impactful and thought-provoking ending masterfully, which is just a style that I prefer to anything else (though I probably would put Tom and Gerri in a close second, since it tricks you twice).

@@deusdeaconReviews Lol, fair - I half expected you to comment pointing out I couldn't count and the twist was that (despite the title) there *were* only nine. I've died 2-3 times and nearly died a fair bit more because I'm listening and half-watching while gaming lol

The Harrowing was a bloody awful episode, pretty much the only bad one.

I love your reviews, man. But why do you constantly shit talk the DCEU, it's like you conveniently forget about the success of wonder woman, and the billion dollar success of aquaman, yet you give utter shit like the last jedi a pass. Seems a bit biased.

I shit talk the DCEU because it is in a word garbage, A failed attempt by DC to ride the coat tails of Marvel, yeah Wonder Women was a good film (barely), Yeah Aquaman was a good film (barely), I don't conveniently forget them i just believe two out of six is a terrible number and when DC can't make something passable from either of its big hitters thats a time to panic, Also liking one thing and disliking another thing because of personal opinion is how this shit works just because my opinion doesn't align with yours does not make it biased just different, Its funny how you see my hatred of the DCEU as quite irrational, and yet I see the hatred for TLJ as similarly irrational

@@deusdeaconReviews yeah, it's troubling when the studio can't seem to get their shit together when it comes to batman and superman. When they have already proven that they can turn the batman property into a beloved mutli billion dollar film franchise. It's almost as if the studio should let the directors do their job, and not take a machete to the film during the editing process. I also think it's hilarious that we live in a world where the very first aquaman movie made a billion dollars before any of the solo spiderman films.
