Half a Soul's exploration of taking care of yourself while taking care of others was excellent. I didn't expect to think about burnout while reading that book! I was July's jewel

T. Kingfisher is underrated. I’m reading one of earlier books and it’s great! What Moves the Dead is sooooo good. On your recommendation I read Nettle and Bone first. Kingfisher is a brilliant story teller. Kaikeyi was a stunning story. Loved it.

So far all of your recommendations I have read have been great! Nettle and Bone …is just the best. My favorite. I kind of want a spin off tale about the Dust Wife and Demon Chicken. Lol

My ultimate favourite romance fantasy series is Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel's Dart trilogy. There are further books as well. Very much adult though, and older so most people have read it

I keep saving Nettle and Bone for Fall because for some reason your description just gives me those vibes...and the only way to feel the seasons in So Cal is by media I consume lmao and same Stardust Thief was fun when I read it...like really fun, but it sits so strongly in my memory I am growing fonder of it over time (unlike the opposite where my hatred grows over time....looking at you ice planet barbarians)

I actually liked the Hunger of the Gods more than the first book. I feel like the world expanded, and the side characters were more fleshed out in the sequel. Also, as you said the new POVs were really good.

I just finished half a soul on your recommendation. It is the best book I have read all year and will go down as one of my favorites of all time. It was exactly what at I needed in my life right now. My dad was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer recently and has quickly and terribly declined. This book is not like many other very dense favorites of mine- WOT, ASOIAF. Anne rice, Stephen king…. I had actually just finished, mistborn, wicked deep and house of salt and sorrows on your recommendation as well. But HALF A SOUL made me laugh and laugh every time I picked it up. It made me feel so good and I am so grateful this book came into my life 🥹

Pardon on my attempt to clarify the pronunciation of "Kaikeyi". Most Indian names are not spelling phonetically and it can become a bit challenging to pronounce it right. It is closely pronounced as "Kai-Kay-yee". I haven't read the book but considering how well you spoke about it, I'm going to give it a try. What's interesting is that her character is pivotal in the original mythology but she doesn't get a lot of "page" time.

Hi Elliot! Since most of the times your recommendations end up becoming favorites for me, I thought to suggest a book back, not sure you have read it but I haven't seen you talk about it (not has I seen it talked on booktube). That would be the absolute book, I picked it up recently, its by an author from New Zealand, Elizabeth Knox, and its about cursed books and burning libraries and it mixes so many genres masterfully and I feel you would the the right person to really appreciate it!

Hey Elle, I think you might like the Steel and Fire series by Jordan Rivet. The first book is called Duel of Fire. The world is very interesting. It's fantasy romance, leaning more towards YA, but I think it balances the fantasy and the romance very well. Since you liked The Bridge Kingdom, you might like this one too. 🥰

Just finished The Hunger of the Gods and WHAT THE HELL? I WAS REALLY LIKING ORKA! Now I have to wait for God knows how long, and Lik-Rifa going full on Kratos on Orna was kinda expected but it felt like she should have had a reunion. The whole book in fact the whole series feels like an Iron Maiden album in a book form, very theatrical and full of kick, I love Iron Maiden and I love stories with a kick in it and this one has a whole Osgutreth full of kicks so, no complaints there but WHY ORKA? WHY NOT GUTHVAR?

Random Q: I read Small Favors because of you. I loved the unsettled feeling in the first half of the book, like the seeing the woman wave from the window part (omg). The ending was ok for me, as the name guessing scene was too good to be true feeling. Although, I did enjoy the book, and I hope to find something similar with a more adult feel. Have you read anything like an adult Small Favors with a small community vs forest feel? I need to go watch the movie The Village now. Question is open to anyone in the comments too. 💁🏻♀️

It really hurts me when you say half a soul is a good representation of PTSD. I’ve lived with PTSD for over 20 years and it takes everything from you. PTSD leaves you with nothing. No job, no friends, just nothing. I think you’re a good person and you would never want to hurt anyone, that’s the only reason I’m telling you this. I don’t leave comments on videos, but you keep saying this book is a good representation of PTSD , but it’s not. Anyways, I really enjoy your videos, and your dog is just the cutest widdle thing in the world!❤️

Her story doesn't have to be your story. Your post is unique to you and Elliot felt a kinship to that book. It doesn't make either of you wrong, just different. Coming from my medic background with my own version of ptsd. Hugs 🤗

kaikeyi sounds interesting because in the original story she's so obviously a sort of vindictive and mean person (and whether she was manipulated into it, or if it was justified or not is a separate thing) which is so different from how people describe her in this book. so I'm curious to know what exactly the author has written because from people talking about it, it sounds like she's completely altered the original story which is cool but not really what I was expecting (when I think of retellings like this I usually think of palace of illusions which is the same story as the original with some minor differences, but told through a different pov)
