Top Ten Short Characters in Fighting Games

After covering the giant characters in fighting games, it’s time to go the opposite directions. What about the little guys? The short characters in fighting games use their size to their advantage by slipping under attacks and using speed and tricks to get in some damage. Or maybe they pack some unexpected power that contrasts with their appearance. Sizes may vary, but regardless, these characters are shorter than the average fighter on their game’s roster and stand out in a big way.

There's something that needs correction in the Neco-Arc entry, in Melty Blood Arcueid doesn't look for a cure for vampirism since she's a true ancestor (that means she was born as a vampire), the one who's looking for a cure is Sion (aka Eltnum in Undernight in birth) who unfortunately isn't in Melty Blood Type Lumina, yet.

I remember Happosai in Ranma 1/2 Hard Battle being super tiny and hard to hit; as bad or worse than Yoda. It would probably be as hard to capture B-roll of Happasai as well, even if MrTopTenList was aware of this game and this character.

I love the Sailor Moon S Fighting game. Chibiusa can be overpowered if used right. Also It's been a while since I played Dragon Ball Fighter Z. Kid Goku is cool. Pikachu is fun in Pokken Tournament DX. Gon is a classic I love him in Tekken. I have seen Neco-Arch memes a lot throughout the years. Neco-Arch is great. Cool video. ^_^

Anyone here got introduced to Rocket Raccoon thanks to his appearance in UMvC3? I swear that I have never heard of him until that point. Please note that it was way before the MCU's first Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Furthermore, at the time, there was The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes cartoon, and in Season 2, Rocket and the Guardians made a cameo in one episode, him alongside Star-Lord, Adam Warlock, Quasar and Groot. The kicker was that Rocket was voiced by Greg Ellis, reprising his role from UMvC3, with the same edgy Cockney accent XD Finally, his return in MvC:I was... a complete letdown. Due to Disney's meddling, most of his moveset was reworked or toned down, and his crazy Napalm Strike was replaced by a rushdown from Groot. He also lost the accent for a voice closer to Bradley Cooper's voice from the MCU movies. For the record, Rocket first appeared in Marvel Preview #7 in July 1976, but was re-introduced in 2008. The Guardians of the Galaxy... didn't get much publicity at the time, so for me, it took until 2011's UMvC3 to learn about Rocket :)... and Iron Fist... and Nova ^^;

That was basically everyone I knew when the game came out, including myself. It was pretty exciting seeing characters we didn't know from the comics in the game since they felt completely new to us. Since previous MvC games tended to add some obscure Marvel characters, we just thought they were finding lesser known characters just because they'd be cool, similar to why Shuma was in older games, but then when we saw the MCU and Netflix were releasing Marvel series, we were like "oh, that makes sense."

@@MrTopTenList They were creative for their characters, that's for sure :) Too bad that creativity got sucked out for Infinite :( I mean... Daredevil, Jewel (that's Jessica Jone BTW), Luke Cage, Iron Fist and the Punisher were RIGHT THERE, thanks to Netflix. They had the Inhumans series... which was awful, BUT with good character potential like Krystal (good thing Black Bolt's actor reprised the role for Multiverse of Madness ;) ). Nova is STILL missing from the MCU, but he got a pass somewhat. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. gave us multiple characters, aside from Ghost Rider. I could go on ^^; Capcom didn't do much either, with no character from SF3 (Alex), SF4 (Viper) and SF5 (Rashid)... or Asura from Asura's Wrath. Good thing we got Mega Man X and a Monster Hunter, I guess :S ?

Sadly , Neco arc does not possess an advantage of "being small" (like for example Jubei does in BlazBlue being able to "low profile") , since her hitboxes extend above her head about 1/2 of her own body.

It's all good! I usually have all the games on hand that I discuss, so it's on me for not checking that the DLC was still there. It was a "turn lemons into lemonade" situation where I rewrote the segment to be about the history of Yoda's inclusion in SCIV rather than his playstyle to still give him proper coverage. If I discover I have no way to get footage in the future for another topic, I'll make a post about it if I could use some help!

Short Characters in Fighting Games nowadays can be necessary if they are balanced and have a fair Hitbox, because in most early Fighting Games back in the Day they were mostly Annoying and Brokenly Overpowered sometimes and they're Hitboxes were almost Impossible to reach.
