Top Ten Teachers in Fighting Games

After covering our favorite students in fighting games, the natural followup felt like covering the teachers in fighting games. Unlike the students, which were found in the classroom or the dojo, the playable teachers in fighting games generally specialize in martial arts, which makes sense. It’s the genre of the game. So in this video, we cover the best teachers in fighting games, with the main criteria is that they have to be a teacher at some sort of institution, whether it’s a standard school or a dojo. For some extra teacher expertise, my own mom joins me as a cohost.

Funny thing about Dan is in older games he is fluent in a ton of different languages so Sakura tried to use him to get into an event where Ryu and other fighters were participating.

I dunno if he counts, but Doc Louis is a great teacher who taught Little Mac how to be a great boxer. He even teaches Little Mac the star punch which is a move that helps beat your opponent. He is also a pretty tough sparring partner when fighting I'm Doc Louis' punch out.

I am kinda surprised to not see that Chin Gentsai (from KOF) or Hayato Nekketsu (from Rival Schools) make the list. Chin basically taught all of team Psycho Soldier (Athena and Sie being the main ones. At least I think that is the story) and Hayato is the Gym Teacher from Taiyo High School which Batsu, Hinata, and Kyosuke were possible his students.

In the old martial arts sensei category of teachers, there's Libra Dohko from Saint Seiya. As the Saints are mostly educated by other Saints, a lot of characters in the franchise could qualify, but Dohko is the one that fits the most in my opinion, with his regular appareance being a Yoda-like little old man, and constantly teaching his student Shiryu in present time and flashbacks.

I'm disappointed that you didn't mention the Edgemaster from Soulcalibur Series. That man is a legend, able to use every fighting style of the game, he is even a master of the dark energy, using it to remain immortal and live so long life. He fough on par both against Olcadan and Algol, he is the guardian of the Three Sacred Treasure of the Ling Sheng Su Temple, and one of the few to know the real nature of the Soul Edge. He has been the master of Kilik, Seung Mi-Na, Maxi and Xiba. Eventually, he travelled in the Astral Chaos to fight Algol in order to stop him to conquer the Earth, or at least keeping at bay until a worthy warrior would appear to stop the Hero King once and for all. God damn it why they didn't complete Soul Calibur V!? It would have been epic!!! >.

For that, it was just an emulator. I generally capture directly, but with no reliable way for me to capture PS1 footage without it being a PS3 port like with SFA3, this was a rare time I emulated.
