Top Ten Weirdest Yu-Gi-Oh Flip Monsters

One of the oldest types of monsters in Yugioh is the flip monster. These monsters have effects that only activate when they are flipped face up. They are slower effects that were initially designed to hold back more powerful effects early in the game’s life, but they slowly got phased out for effects that occurred without needing to be set then flipped. Now, these types of monsters are either extinct or part of an archetype that caters to flip effects to make them strong enough to justify being set (or just naturally speed them up). With them being around since the dawn of Yugioh, there were bound to be some weird ones in there, so we’re on a mission to find them. Here's a fun fact: Oats ran a deck with Parasite Paracide in it when we were younger. it was one of his main decks. He had a bad habit of leaving a copy or two in my deck. I would have to return it to him a week or two later. To this day, I still have one of his old Parasite Paracides because of this.

The reason for Castle of Dark Illusions' wonky stats: In the manga it had 1200 ATK and 2500 DEF. It was scaled down so that its stats would be approximately 1200/2500 with a 30% power bonus, so they took 1200 and 2500 and divided them by 1.3 and rounded them (they rounded the ATK down and the DEF up, not sure why though considering that the nearest ten for both was down). 920/1930 plus 30% is 1196/2509 This same scale down method was also applied to King of Yamimakai (2600/2000 in the manga, 2000/1530 IRL), Dark Chimera (2100/1900 manga, 1610/1460 IRL), Barox (1800/2000 manga, 1380/1530 IRL), and Metal Guardian (1500/2800 manga, 1150/2150 IRL). For Reaper of the Cards it bizarrely only applies to its ATK (1800 manga, 1380 IRL), as its 1930 DEF implies it had 2500 in the manga when it actually had 2000.

Fun fact: Parasite Paracide is the only card in the entire game that can be inserted into the opponent's deck, as well as the only card that can legally be inserted into the Main Deck face-up, and by extension, playing Convulsion of Nature causes it to be turned facedown again.

Weather Report is such an oddly specific counter. They had a few of those in the old days like Griffin Wing and White Hole and Anti raigeki. Bolt Penguin was one of the first cards me, my sis and bro got back in 2001 when we imported YGO cards, so I have a soft spot for him. Penguin Soldier is amazing and I will accept *NO* badmouthing of him whatsoever. Or Cobra Jar for that matter. I used D-Boys in my first Xyz deck. They're funny. I like the Penguin Synchro

Bite Shoes is actually a meta card in PSV-only duels that use the original rules at the time, because the monster could not change its battle position the same turn it had its position changed by an effect. That is a hyper specific type of game, though. lol

During the time that Nobleman-Eater Bug was released, Insect Imitation could summon the monster in face-down defense position. (Why they changed this, I don't know). Even using this method, it still sucked. Needed higher DEF and the ability to choose to destroy only 1 monster.

Eternal Duelist Soul was one of the best Yu-Gi-Oh games, early Yu-Gi-Oh flip effects were almost game breaking since you could stock your deck with Hane-Hanes, Penguin Soldiers, Cyber Jars, Man-Eater Bugs, Morphing Jars, Mirror Force, Harpy's Feather Dusters, Mystical Space Typhoons, Swords of Revealing Light and basically wreck your opponent's every move and just bleed their life points with vanilla hitters

Made me think of Iron Shoes. Iron Shoes were a punishment way back when. What they would do is put those iron shoes in a furnace or over a fire until they turned bright (from the heat) and they would quickly put those shoes on the criminal while still hot and the criminal would literally in a sense "Dance" bcus of the pain and Die from it. What makes it more interesting is that the original Snow White story she woken up from the prince's kiss and they go off to his kingdom to celebrate. The evil queen catches wind and shows up to ruin the festivities and Snow reveals the truth as to what happened to her and why she was sleep so the Prince made the guards capture the Evil Queen and put those Iron Shoes on her until she died in the middle of the court room for everyone to see...

Actually regarding the nobleman eater bug section, I'm pretty sure shallow grave came out in Magician's Force which was before power of the duelist, and would've allowed you to special summon a monster from the graveyard facedown letting you special summon Nobleman eater bug. Also, and easily forgotten trap card that would've been applicable to this whole video (I believe from metal raiders) was light of intervention, which would allow you to trigger your flip effect monsters' effects without them being attacked. Unfortunately, it's a continuous trap card, preventing you from setting again until it's destroyed. There's also book of Taiyou (which I think was pharonic guardian) which did the same as a normal spell. I think this was the reason for weather report being designed the way he was to beat swords of revealing light, since the first thing it does is flip monsters face up, which would trigger weather report.

The reason why Castle of Dark Illusions (and all of PaniK's monsters, really) had such weird stat lines is that, after the field power bonus that Duelist Kingdom had, they would then be somewhat in line with the stats that their manga counterparts had, where the field power bonus mechanic wasn't a thing. IE; Castle, after the 30% bonus, would be 1196 ATK and 2509 DEF, which would round out to it's manga counterpart's 1200 ATK and 2500 DEF.

The Tindangle user looks like an anime version of a young HP Lovecraft. It actually fits. Also you're misunderstanding how Parasite Paracide works. Its effect activates the moment it's flipped face up. It never goes to the graveyard when destroyed in battle, it goes straight into the opponent's deck.

30:43 OK, here’s some ways to buff CODI… Have it give 300 ATK/DEF a turn instead of 200… Shave off the limit it can go on for…. Allow it to effect both zombies and fiends…. And allow it to freely change its type between fiend (which it starts off as), Zombie (which it classically supports) and Rock (just to be cute, I mean it IS a floating stone castle) once a turn…. And maybe make it a pendulum monster too, that can search out spells/traps that specify Fiend/Zombie/Rock monsters in their text.

perosnally I prefer Old Vindictive Magician to Man Eater bug because if Man Eater bug forceable gets flipps faced up by Swords of Revealing light or Desert Sunlight or something of that nature and he's the only monster on the field, he eats himself. Castle of Dark illusions should have been, you can Normal summon monsters into face-down attack position. that monster is flipped face-up when it attack or is attacked. All Dark Monsters on your field of the field Gain 500 atk and def points.

Actually, speaking of Castle of Dark Illusions and Pumpking, I ran a deck like that for a Halloween duel where I used Zombie world to make Castle of Dark Illusion a zombie monster, so it's defense was a nice 2130 when it was flipped up, and used glow up bloom to summon pumpking straight from the deck, making the combo fairly easy. Ironically the hardest part about it was getting the game to go on long enough to actually do my combo, my partner would usually end up just conceding because he couldn't play around zombie world.

4:14 I forgot the cards name in the background but when you added 2 copies mirroring each other, it started to look like the cloud is a monster. Look at the center of the cards mirroring. It has a millenium eye on the forehead. The cloud is a dragon. Needleball reminds me on Rush Duels Amusi Performer. Only that Amusi Performer is a cute anime girl who has an awful singing voice making her band members suffer in the background. They recently released the last member of the trio Rhythmical Performer. Rush Duels sure have amazing artwork for their cards. I thought Jigen means Dimension or something. Also its the name of a Boruto antagonist who is apparently someone else and forced Naruto to use a pretty good designed transformation. Also the apparently the ninetailed fox is apparent good in nuclear physics. Even I suck at that and I even study physics at collage. Someone give this demon fox his bacholor of science. Will we get a video on Cards that "counter" or "need" specific cards to work like White Hole or that dude that has Pot of Greed on his head?

My favorite part of nobleman-eater bug is that its name implies that it is not a Man-eater bug who is noble, but a bug that EXCLUSIVELY eats members of the nobility. He does not eat commoners.

So another thing to go with your parasite paracide segment, dummy golem also fails to work the same way when it's destroyed. Also Pharaoh's Treasure goes back in the deck face up similarly, making it also work counter-intuitively with conversion of nature.

Tindangles is actually fitting if you take Lovecraftian horror into account, when it comes to the player who uses them. Since a big aspect of that... lets call it genre, since it is at this point, is that it a) can happen to anyone and b) hides in plain sight most of the time.

You know...if you have an opponent with a filled field. Then you could... possibly do this. Set Man-Eater Bug. Then set Waboku (since it protects your monsters from destruction by battle). Someone slams into MEB. Triggers the effect and blows up a monster. Then next turn tribute set NMEB. Then when the opponent slams into Noble Bug, that's two more monsters down the drain

32:44 With the old duel disk toys, you couldn't change the fourth digit (the Battle City disk had a fourth LP button for lighting up the display while the Academy disk (including the Japan-exclusive red Season 4 recolor) just had three LP buttons). Even though you could half attack and defense points for a fourth digit of 5. Least Panik's cards got nerfed into all the numbers ending with 0. I forget if this was an issue with the Chaos Duel Disk and I have no clue about the Yusei duel disk. The next time they ever released a duel disk toy was Sevens. Zexal and Arc-V I get because they had digital screens which would be much more expensive but VRAINS I don't really get why there wasn't one and for some reason the only Go Rush disk is the Sevens one repackaged as Yuudias' disk that Yuga gave him (packaged with ID cards for Yuudias, the Ohdo twins, Manabu and Zwijo). I have no clue about the Sevens one either

I love how Parasite Paracide is so bad, Weevil had to cheat to actually use its effect and even then, it didn’t even work right. Isn’t Konami trying to advertise the card rather than underselling it? I created some kind of Prediction Princess/Jar/ Pot/ and dijinn deck and somehow it was terrifying to see how effective it was able to stop some of the meta when the board was set up right as most fields were gone in an instant or others deck out for it can be powerful but it wouldn't work without prediction princess out on the field early sometimes.

23:09 Book of Taiyou or stall strats that involve letting the attack go through, like half unbreak (though if your opponent has piercing... Say it with me now: You will still take damage). Plenty of ways it can work.

Ngl it gets even weirder for Castle of Dark Illusion is specifically a Fiend type but only affects Zombie monsters, I guess they didn't want it to boost itself but still very weird. But funny enough, Duelist of the Roses has a very basic effect for this card where it boosts all Fiends on the field by 500 points while it is in Face up Defense. Actually doesn't sound that bad for the game in a proper deck. And ngl that sounds like a fun top ten idea, best cards that are bad in the irl tcg but cam be great in DOTR.

Parasite paracide is one of my most favorite insects aside from perfectly ultimate great moth and cocoon of evolution, I remember I tried to work with the monster but end up forgetten to take it back, lol so now he is in my collection, really happy he got a upgrade later on

btw, I forgot that Man-Eater Bug got a retrain called Mimicking Man-Eater Bug. And nobody seemed to care because FLIP monsters are still disappointing. I noticed that Sparks, Blue Medicine and Red Medicine have monsters supporting them. And they all happen to be cute anime girls. It appears Rush Duels really respect classic cards. Heck, even Cyber Falcon has a Fusion Monster now.
