Nice Preach - just the insight we've come to enjoy from you. One thing I'd echo from others' comments is that I overlay a cooldown timer to the TellMeWhen icons so I can match boss phases/events (e.g. when I know I won't have to move for 10-15 seconds) with your class abilities to further maximize your contribution.

Solid advice. A clean UI can mean a lot for performance. Healers need it the most as their awareness is the most spread, so not being able to pay attention to the field can be severely damaging.

I have a mouse with Macro support. I set up a macro to press each button in order, set it to toggle so it repeats over and over until untoggled. Run in, position boss, press button, go make a cup of tea.

***** I guess it's worth pointing out that as a Warrior, my first priority isn't going to be DPS anyway. The funny thing about "Maximum DPS" is that there isn't a situation that will ever call for it. The maximum possible DPS is far higher than the amount of DPS required to clear the hardest content in the game. I'm not going to get the maximum DPS using Single Minded Fury, but I don't like Titan's Grip so it's rather moot. But again, I play a Warrior. DPS is not going to be my priority as I am naturally a Tank class. And I always preferred tanking because DPS is just flat out boring.

Personally I would recommend adding an additional addon. While having to track the cds when they are up is neat, it will be best if you know exactly when they will be up. for eg, weakauras progress bar. You can see the the time left on the cd as the bar comes to an end. Addons like this really can help to maximise your dps. Average human reaction is 0.1 sec, adding latency into gameplay, it can mean losing dps to someone who is mashing before every spell is off cd despite reacting perfectly.

I've been doing this on my Resto Druid for a while now. Just to remind when things are up and active and whatnot. Only have 4 spells tracking: 1. Harmony (Mastery) is active, 2. Swiftmend off CD, 3. Tranquility off CD, 4. Innervate off CD and Mana below 65%. Since healing is more situational, I wanted to know when certain spells are available. Also, they're being tracked to remind me to use them as well; like use Swiftmend and keep Harmony active throughout the fights.

To max dps you need to look ahead in the fight, and knowing WHEN your cooldowns WILL go off. Knowing it when they ARE off is baaaad. U need to sync ur cooldowns and trinket procs. A good thing to do is to hide ur action bars completely, (the bottom ones) only showing ur main abilities in mid screen. Do this for some time to get used to not having to look there, when ur confident with this turn them back on

Its an ok way to make it easier not to mess up for sure. but defo not the best. They pop up when they're off cooldown, meaning then are never used the second they are ready. as u wont be spamming frost bomb while casting a frost bolt unless its showing, even tho it might be ready during this cast. Best way to do it is to simply have ur action bars with timers on where u have those icons. u can then make weakauras to shine around the icon when its ready but u can still easily see how long is left

This addon is amazing, I was having trouble managing Elemental Blast juggled with lava burst and keep my eye on the boss. My DPS jumped up at least a few K and my raid efficiency is spectacular now.

I've personally been using something like this for a long time now. To be on the top you to know everything that your class can do and when to do it. I was a top mage in cata on my realm and I was fire, you have a few little things you keep up with well I used power auras my screen had more colors and shit on it then a gay McDonald's but I new when everything was up it help me be one of the best. I highly recommend a addon like this it helps soooo so much.

1) i know this comment is a month old, but im just trying to clear something up. 2) i completely agree with your comments. but... 3) im pretty sure this is to help those struggling with remembering or even noticing that something is off CD. once you use this for awhile, like anything, you start the feel of the timing and you start to rely on this addon less. but it's still nice to have in a very stressful situation (like progession)

You can have many icons as you want...you'l just have to put them near eachother. Each tab has 4 icon space, if you put 2 tabs of 4 icons near eachother, then you have a line of 8 icons, if you activate them all.

I've been using weak auras/power auras to do this for years. Something I've done recently is add a specific sound to each move coming off cooldown (like a robot bleep or a water drop or something like that). After a couple of weeks I've memorised what each sound means. I'm at the point now where I don't even really need the pictures. I do it mostly by sound. Just another way to make your UI even less cluttered.

hey preach m8 another awesome addon for tracking stuff is forteXorcist ... yes i know its originally a dot timer but it also gives a bar with the cooldowns and a handy pop-up window to let you know that a certain spell is back off cd. you can even use sound effects

i used to have addon called warlockhelper or something like that which you could set to warn about cd's popping x seconds b4 they were off cooldown, was perfect for timing the fights

its on the same principals keep track of your CDS,know the fight so you know when you need use them,pre-cast,always look for the best place to stand e.g where you're in range of everybody yet not in some bad mechanic.once you learn the fight you will know when to expect either raid or tank damage and you'll know to pre-cast.use your def. cds-less time healing yourself more time healing 24 people means more healing.

i use bartender for CD tracking. just make a bonus bar (eg. bar 10) put it in the middle, put your spells u want and check "hide out of combat" in the bar options. there you go!

I feel that that most important tip to maximizing raid DPS in a stressful situation is never stop pressing buttons. I find alot of players stop dealing damage when they move, but the key is to never stop attacking.

On that first fight it's worth noting that you'll get alot more out of ice lance cleave damage & frozen orb if you keep the glintrok ironhide interrupted/ deep frozen/ frostjawed (I know the video isn't for specific fights though)

Honestly I think this is not something I think I have a problem with but I can see how it can help people new to raiding or playing a class they aren't familiar with. I tend to just use 'tell me when' to monitor cd's.

Since you seem to be pretty familiar with TellMeWhen, could you do me a HUGE favor and make a video (or describe somehow) on how EXACTLY to set it up for the paladin Inquisition buff to show only when in combat and when it has ~6 or so seconds left/absent? This was actually really useful. My only problem is not using any sort of bartender addon so I click on the extra action button for Garajal to get out of the spirit world or the Opportunistic Strike on Will of the Emporer, and the most convenient place for my Tell Me When is riiight above the extra action button, and the game is mean and wont let me click on it if TMW is right above the button. ^ I'm mostly just lazy, so I don't want to memorize another keybind. Still helpful though.

Actually, if you want to max DPS in raids, make sure you got Show Timer checked, this way yo uwill know soon your spells will be ready. This way you can time your cooldowns alot better when the boss goes into different mecanics for example extra damage taken etc.

I just got this addon i lurv it. and btw you dont have to put everything as "unit in combat" just go to interface addons tellmewhengo to the group youre using and check "only when in combat" it reduces the delay for it coming up and it makes config easier

Having Unit in combat=target is less susceptible to false positive than Unit in combat=player and respond faster on pull (you need both on for target switching ofc). I would also suggest making what I call pull macro. I play BM hunter and every boss pull i have to press 14 buttons (cd's pots ect) in same order before goin into rotations. I made myself 14 step castsequence so that every boss pull i got perfect start with everything lined up.

@earthane wrong you want to pop it at your prime like arcane for example you don't want to pop it befor you arcane power if you macro you arcane power with it and wait till you get 2 procs of arcane missiles, pop it use missiles after you get reset you get extra time on you arcane power and you get your procs back.

On my lock and my DK I do more damage in raids than dummies 90% of time, though my dummy DPS impressed most people since it's unbuffed DPS. Also if you play your class enough you should almost feel your CDs coming off CD. On my lock I don't even need UI, as destro (back in Cata, when it was harder) I knew exactly when each DoT was running out, when Conflargate was up, and when Chaos Bolt was up. I could have easily done top DPS with disabled UI.

I dont like tell me when because i rather know when my cds will be up not if they're up so for example if im on lei-shi as a ret and my Stay of execution is on cd i would know whether it would come off cd and would be able to be used on a full duration before a special ability(because hide removes any debuffs on him and protect makes him immune) and i would more easily allign my cds in general.

yea, works till you need to manage multiple things like on aff lock atm.. i'm so annoyed with the way it's setup atm. do i have procs? is pandemic going to be in effect? ect.. all sorts of crap that need to be factored before you even think about using cd's that you have available. i'm just saying, could be better blizz.
