I have really strong leg muscles, but this thing still hurts really badly. What I find most effective for lessening the pain is taking ibuprofen, icing, biofreeze, and wrapping a little ring with tension between the osgood and the knee. There is a tendon there where if pressure is applied it hurts less.

Based on your research, does this even go away? Or do I need to live my life with this shitty thing. I am at the age of 25 and got it previous week in my leg workout. The squat load was even lower than my actually weight. I am still doing my exercises but cant do any squat, leg press except integrated unilateral leg extensions etc. Any other advice

I have been doing some mobility and eccentric training. It went pretty well. I started doing some weighted squats and leg presses. NEver quit@@Lautaroiwnl

@@I_am_Borissss same i was doing squats not even heavy and got this, its been 2 months and it hasnt gone away only advice i can give you is i had seen that it could be fixed via operation if it didnt go away by itself after a period of time

I heard that even surgery doesn't make the pain go away 100% or even 50%. Pre-surgery patients' feedback I got is like it only reduce the bum area (most likely aesthetic purposes). Since I found out that I have OSD, I am doing YOGA, mobility&stretching trainings. Obviously I can't do very heavy squats or leg presses but now I can do day do day exercises without feeling any pain and even the bum size reduced. @@pombtomb7502

Mines flares up after playing ball i feel like i have this combined with shin splints. Walking is fine but stairs are brutal

@griffith8560 u have a more serious case then as yours will take a few more months my father and I both had it and he had it for a year and mine was 8 months it's not permanent just to make you feel better if it does hopefully

Can I continue doing leg day in the gym, although squads and leg press are painful? Should I stop or can a good warmup prevent further pain, if yes which warmup exercises?

I hs the same problem but working on hamstring flexibility and massaging the tendon in between the knee and the bump before activity really made a difference

This should go away once you stop growing. Right now I’m at my peak for growing and am also playing soccer so it’s being overworked. I don’t have a bump but the pain is in the same place on the tendon

yes it definitely can resolve over time. Managing your load during this period is key so it's not so up and down... and we don't want to miss game time.

My 12 year old has been dealing with this for about 5 months. He plays soccer at a high level and has just been playing through the discomfort. He has a prominent bump on his left knee and we’ve seen a decrease in his initial explosiveness. Hoping it goes away soon

Hey man I’m 22 as well actually and have suffered the same for a while, I started doing a lot of helpful things that were healing my knees that I can share with you, but the healing process takes a wile, are you playing a sport right now?

sorry you're going through this - it can be super frustrating - have you been able to see a physio locally - often we just need to be setup on the right loading protocol and the right progressions

It’s the opposite. Because when you have a growth spurt and grow super fast, the growth plate hasn’t fused to the bone which means the tendon and muscles will be pulling on that weakened bone causing osgood’s

Yes can be very touch sensitive. Can take a long time too.

Hi @valk - sorry to here this. You may need to start much more gentle and settling it down first with tape, hands on therapy and altered load. Are you seeing someone? If you need we do online consults.

yes they can get big. The size doesn't matter too much it can settle still.

If you put more tension on it then it causes a painful lump usually ice heals it

I got diagnosed with is osgood schlatters by my Doctor and I’m in my teans . Very hard for me to do any sport and while you have it it’s best to reduce sport/physical activity as much as you can but I would see a doctor to see if you have it😊

Short answer no. Completely not moving for three or more weeks is impossible but limiting activity for that rest period is extremely helpful

If you're talking about the disease itself, it should go away in your late teens, when you're bones stop growing. If you still have a lump, your body should reabsorb the excess bone. If it doesn't, and it persists into adulthood, see a doctor, especially if it's painful. It could be a sign that it has developed into something more, like an avulsion fracture.

You shouldnt just do nothing about it because there's a chance it won't go away on it's own, you should gradually add tension to the knee through ranges of motion that sre comfortable
