I have multiple questions, it would be nice to get some answers, if you could help. 1. How often they are fed in winter and in summer? 2. Are there any strategies used to develop certain parts of the body or just shallow water/filtration and feeding? I am particularly interested in grooming in their early stages as they look so huge for 7 weeks old. 3. I see that there is big % of cull rate and I can totally understand that. Except of obvious reasons like deformations and not desired shape, is there anything else breeder takes into account? (size for example?). 4. Which of the fish won the competitons? 5. What is this breed called exactly? Are those jinchu kai? Thanks for that and sorry for too many questions, I recently got into Japanese ranchus and there are not many info online especially about grooming (or they are kept secret), so that was another informative video. Are there any books in English the breeder would recommend? :D Thanks (you will hate me now, sorry :D )

In winter they are not fed for 1-3 months dependant on temperature. Lots of water changes, shallow water and regular feeding for fry around five times a day. Quality food and water changes I believe is the main ingredient to growing them fast. Split tails is a big factor in selection for TVR as well as curled fins and splayed tails I don’t think size is as important but runts will be removed. The fish that won the competition where the larger fish in the main brood stock pond and yes they are Jinchu Kai, I believe some originally imported from Japan many years ago. Hope that helps 😊

How long after mating do oranda goldfish lay eggs?

The goldfish will lay the eggs as they are mating. The male will chase the female and cause her to drop her eggs which the male then immediately fertilises

I would try reaching out to Star fisheries and maybe putting a special order together for some top quality fish, they are the biggest fancy goldfish store in Europe and have accses to many breeders all over the world. If you send them an email with your requirements, they should be able to source what you're after 😀

Yes, it is very interesting to see how many hundreds little goldfishs are killed by serious breeders to obtain 5 or 10 "good" goldfishs. Really, to love goldfishs is just amazing. 😞
