Jim told a bad starvation joke, and NWA didn't edit it out of a pre-taped show. BIG mistake on NWA's part.
@stevenmillan92202 сағат бұрын
I'm sure that Jim was very super vocal backstage about his progressive liberal politics,something that conservative Infowars fan Billy Corgan wouldn't put up with as Jim sorely needs to get himself a MeidasTouch/Keith Olbermann/Steve Schmidt/Michael Cohen style progressive podcast since Jim's endless AEW bashing is so tiresome.

Tbh. the story that led to Aldis losing to Murdoch was amazing, which kinda compensates for the loss. But then all the Tyrus shit is just unexcusable, not only on a wrestling pov, but also a commercial (too political) and aesthetical perspective. I believe that, at one point, Corgan just wanted to "stick it" to wrestling fans and was going through the "all publicity is good publicity" route. Corgan did the rise and fall of NWA again in 5 years lmao

I do agree with what you said but there's a few other issues too. 1. Powerrr moving to Fite TV from KZbin. This hurt viewership because instead of watching for free, now you have to pay per episode of tv. Nothing was added to the product but now we had to pay. 2. Changing the product. Billy Corgan didn't like it being called a "Throwback" and kept changing the format of the show. The throwback was what made it stand out. Now it looks like a glorified indy show. 3. Tyrus Allegations. Not only was Tyrus not a great champion, he's had multiple allegations against him over the years. 4. Billy not trying to keep people. He had a stacked roster when Powerrr started. EC3 and Matt Cardona are about the only names that have been on NWA TV recently

The issue with cornette joke can have two sides a race joke about black people wanting fried chicken or a joke about starving people..Jim’s got a history of being negative about black wrestlers a clip calling one the N word.. If it’s a South Park joke why is it on a wrestling show..if someone from wwe or aew said it they’d get hatred to just that Jim said it.
@danpoutsma13513 сағат бұрын
He clarified that it was a starvation joke. He's been telling it since the 80s, actually, long before South Park. The starvation epidemic in Ethiopia was a big story back then. The problem nowadays is that people are just looking to be offended by something, or anything, and will get triggered by hearing certain words without understanding or wanting to understand the context of the situation in how they're being used They hear fried chicken and Ethiopia so it must be racist joke against black people. Yet how many people were up in arms that he was making fun of starvation or starving people? It shows you where most people's minds are there days. .
@joshyfox993 сағат бұрын
@ either way the joke would have been taken badly as making a starvation joke about people who were dying from it isn’t good either, it’s not that people are too easily offended now it’s that they understand certain jokes shouldn’t be said on a wrestling show that isn’t about that sort of comedy…would it be okay for Micheal Cole to make a joke in the same lines? Maybe Tony schivoni could.. jokes like that don’t really belong on a wrestling show he could have used any other analogy but went with a starvation joke.
@danpoutsma13512 сағат бұрын
@joshyfox99 He's been saying that joke on TV for literally over 30 years without any issues until some sensitive soul or souls decided they and everyone else should be offended by it. But at the end of the day, it was pre-taped, and it was ultimately the NWA's fault for not having the foresight to say " this line might not go over so well in today's climate Jim, so we're going to take it out" . Instead, they didn't do that and threw him under the bus before issuing an apology.
@joshyfox992 сағат бұрын
@ it was allowed 30 years ago but a lot of awful things have been allowed for that time span don’t make it right but I fully agree it’s on NWA for keeping it in if they took it out or had him do a do over it would have been fine.

What was left of the NWA should've let Turner buy the name in the late 80/early 90s after he took over Jim Crockett Promotions Ever since the split with WCW, they've struggled to stay relevant for the past 30 plus years now. At least WCW or WWF would've given it a proper burial. Instead, it's died and been resurrected more times than Jason Voorhees.

The Cornette joke wasn’t “out of pocket”, it was completely in Cornettes wheelhouse. Nothing about it should have been offensive to anyone but Trevor Murdoch. Which is who it was designed to insult. That’s it, that’s all. My opinion is that trigger happy young fans who have brain rot don’t know how to spot “racism” if their life depended on it. They have grown up in a virtue signaling world and thus are a product of their environment. It was a dumb reaction to a goofy joke. Cornette is the last guy to make a racist joke. Those who disagree have never listened to him and his opinions. Jim doesn’t always get it right but he’s got a sturdy and good moral base. As long as your name isn’t Vince Russo, you’re fine.

Jim's joke is funny. It's literally a South Park style joke. One of, if not Jim's favorite show. I've been watching South Park since it first aired. It's just a Starving Marvin reference. I'm black, I didn't go on twitter and complain about South Park when they made the joke when I was a kid. I just went to school and laughed about it with all of my friends. Because it's funny. If your show dies because someone made a South Park joke, then your show was bad to begin with. Because South Park is one of the most popular shows in the world. And isn't bad.
