This story deserves more attention than it gets. We certainly didn't hear much about this from mainstream media at the time. I found out years later when an AIM attendee spoke at my workplace.
@ranchodeluxe14 ай бұрын
AIM caused more trouble here in 73 than any other entity besides the Federal Govt. And the damage was to their own people. To this day you can't buy a gallon of gas, milk, pack of cigarettes, nothing, in Wounded Knee. Because of AIM. As far as the FBI agents, those of us without emotion invested know that Peltier is guilty, because the evidence always said so.

Wonderful people! So much suffering and injustice done to them. It's a dark stain on US history and it's time for the US government, people and authorities to acknowledge the wrongdoings in history and put serious effort to repair the broken wounds and damage, and honour the Native American cultures.

@@channelseeker7 not since my childhood it wasn't respect on some connected plain. It was not respect that prompts my attention ...you see my heritage is something like that of Pocahontas and capt Smith. So while I understand both..that connection is more shapeshifting and not respect. Clearly I put it in a odd way to say no thanks to certain ideas. There's room for all of us til my room was taken in deceptive aspects

Side note about this song, it was banned in the US, but the song Cherokee Nation (Cherokee People) by Paul Revere and the Raiders (written by John Loudermilk pre 1959) was released in 1971 and went on to be #1 on Billboards top 100 in the US. An earlier version performed by Don Fardon charted in 1968 in the UK Singles Chart at #3. Both tunes spoke about the truths, yet it was the Native American band's song that got banned 🤔🤔 Some of you mentioned sarcasticly "Land of the Free", You's couldn't be more correct, you can add "One Nation Under God, with Liberty, and 'Justice for All' " ... All more broken promises. ~ Redbone truly deserves to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, for many reasons! Look up the petition to sign to get them inducted! ✌🏽 Blessings

Amen, Gary! I agree that it was puzzling that Redbone, the first Native American band's song gets banned from airplay!! And, yes, Redbone is long overdue to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!! They are already in the Smithsonian, so why not the RRHOF?? So many other shit bands are in the Hall, Redbone needs to be inducted NOW!!! They are true musicians - innovative, sensitive and visionary. So many of their songs are still relevant today, almost 50 years later!

America's destiny, the song doesn't stress it by coincidence. "Manifest Destiny" was a political ideology of the 19C and warcry against the native people of America. Originally it meant to develop the west country, but on purpose overlooked the peoples living there.

It was a theory that America should be the dominant force in the American Continents. It wasn't specifically aimed at Indians. Although they were one of the victims.

Come and Get Your Love was their only UK hit,not that I knew it then as a small child getting to know music on the radio and what my parents were playing (luckily their taste was very good). I never heard this song in full,though I've probably heard parts sung in footage of protests. Was it Wounded Knee that was depicted in that shocking scene in the film Soldier Blue?
