Neighbor of mine modified a used Case-IH 4wd combine by adding on a snowblower normally mounted on the 3-pt hitch on the rear of any 150-250 HP tractor. He had to tinker with the gearing somewhat and reverse the PTO to allow the blower to be run from the front PTO on the combine but it really works well. The auger and any other unnecessary equipment were removed and weight was added to the bin for traction.

Heated gravel is commonly used in Norway and Sweden since it is not only snow on the roads but ice as well, and when the heated gravel hits the ice/packed snow it will melt its way down just a little bit and get stuck onto the surface when it frezes again so it actually can give friction. If you pour it on top, it will most likely blow away and become utterly useless after a windy day and creates less friction than it potentially could give :)
