GE Honda Fit reimagined with 350HP K Series for 150K.
@kurtcocktoasten45922 ай бұрын
A life-long friend of mine "reimagined" a 914 in 2003, LONG before that term was applied to how people now modify a car. He was the first person to engineer a swap of an LS2 Chevrolet V8 into such a road-going vehicle. But the car was a complete redo, not just engine. He swapped in a 911 Turbo transmission, manufactured his own clutch linkage, included 911 Turbo brakes and hollow-spoked wheels, used 911 Turbo rear fender vents to provide cooling, front mounted radiator, wide body kit, etc. He literally would stare at the wall, then close his eyes for a few moments and would then begin to sketch how to make all of this work. Did it work? Holy hannah, did it ever. Not only did the car run a consistent 11.20 quarter mile time @ 125 MPH+, but he ran the car in autocross and performed at speed/agility contests at airports with 0-150-0 runs and turn around (like U-Drags now by Edmunds). He beat 2005 Ford GTs at this event. His work was masterful. It was a brilliant car that he wishes he had not sold.

So did I. Also had the steel Chalon slope nose kit on it. Most people I guess don't realize you could fit up to a 400 into the engine bay and then mate it up with the 915 transaxle and basically have a car that can do donuts within its own body length and corner like a slot car. The whole reason they handed the 4's to VW to do and stayed with the less available 6's is because the 914 outhandled the 911 on rally tracks with the mid engine design but didn't have the looks to be the flagship and couldn't be priced like one. It would have been very embarrassing for the 911.

But let’s not forget it is an absolute economy value bare bones bucket that’s horribly designed and constructed from the most minimal materials. Not much more to it than a go kart and likely less reliable. Any pricing for any mod of these over $25k is ridiculous. I wouldn’t pay $10k. Just stupid for those with more money and time than they know what to do with otherwise. Ludicrous.

I’m not sure how far this restomod train is going to go, but I think specials like this might be some of the most coveted cars several decades from now

But, if you have an Aston or a ferrari or two, you've done the supercar thing, you have half a mil and you want something engaging, bespoke and special that you will pass down to your kids when you go, then yeah this makes a lot of sense. This isn't about value for money in terms of performance - get a remapped AMG A45 if that's your thing. Likewise, if you want a performance watch a quartz LCD is the way to go, but we all really want the mechanical Speedmaster that costs 40x the price.

Definition of Restomod: how to turn obtainable driver cars into overpriced garage queens
@rileyandikeysplaytime5936Ай бұрын
Cool build! I really like the front-end headlight mod. I'm sure back in the 1970's the engineers at Porsche Stuttgart AG would have gone in a similar direction had LED technology been as advanced as it is today. A set of bulky pop-up headlamps doesn't do a whole lot for aerodynamics in a low-drag build like the 914. Previously I've owned a 1987 944 as well as a 1991 BMW 850ci that also had pop-up headlights. My 944 was way underpowered IMO but made up for that easily with it's super low drag body lines. once up to freeway speeds, acceleration and coasting were incredible. I remember the feeling of as if My butt was just inches off the Asphault road in this little compartment and foot off the gas the speedometer would not drop off very much compared to other traditional vehicles I had driven. With the BMW, I had seen several mods where people made the pop-up open maybe half as much as normal and fitted very nicely were rectangular shaped lamps that either were xenon or high powered LED. The look was much more appetizing to the eye instead of the OEM version. If I had kept the 850, the next mod's I would perform would have been the manual 6 speed,cold air itake, aftermarket high flow exhaust and Dinan or other tuner's DME remapping to improve overall performance. I was looking at a $3,000 1977 914 on CL recently but after looking up resto part prices I quickly changed my mind! At my age, I'd prefer to modify another Mercedes Benz W111 se coupe! My 1967 250se was a fun car to drive. Imagine one bagged and rolling on nice HRE wheels. A big Garrett turbo and intercooler under the hood would bring some excitement to it.

Keep bringing these masterpieces back to life. Enough with the SUV. I can't wait to see the Ford Escort restomod too.❤.

Tom Ford on the thumbnail made me click on the video. Mr. Ford, you are a legend.

I've been following Fifteen Eleven Design's 914 Project since Day 1. The 3D renderings were superlative. The final result is competent but... well... not superlative. The art of bespoke Porsches reached its apex with Rob Dickenson of Singer and... everyone else is everyone else. Singer earned their place at top. They earned their place by slowly building their reputation. You must earn respect, not command respect. Many restomod developers are greedy. They immediately command premiums when their cars are unproven. At $500,000 US, the cost for this bespoke limited edition 914 is unearned. It's a shame but, unfortunately, it's become the norm. Still, I wish success for Fifteen Eleven Design.

There is so many new restomods project almost every week! I don't think it's a bad thing, I love them but I can't fathom how there would be a market big enough for these $350k+ or even $500k+ cars to be viable..

Often restomofs are an original with changes for change sake . But the looks are spot on 💪 here.

If I had the coin I’d buy it, wanted a 914/6 when I was younger but my 997 suits me just fine

Super cool looking car. I’d like a reimagining of the 67 Mustang hardtop.

The only thing missing is the modernisation of the rear lights 👌

I loooove restomods like this. If I were a billionaire, I'd have soooo many custom-made classics for me... Also, I actually like that ford more, I think.

Love it. I’d have the bumpers body color though. Also, the 987 Cayman S has a 3.4 and is 320 hp. How did they go to 3.8 and 400hp? Bore? Stroke? Both? More engine info please.

Great to see respect for “other than a 911”. As a Mech E. ,it is hard to explain the amount of work it takes to design a car to a high standard “under the skin”.. they should have showed more of the engineering…
