This was the 1st online concert of Regine Velasquez last April 25, 3days after her birthday.. Unfortunately this video was cut short and did not include Lea Salonga's birthday greetings. This is her greetings to the one and only Asias songbird. "Singing with you was hard, but because it was your birthday, and because you asked, as in ikaw mismo yung nag-request that I sing this with you, I couldn’t say no to a birthday request,” Lea Salonga says after their duet. “My God, it’s hard to sing with you-but I mean that only in the best way.” Singing even more praises for the women we all recognize and respect as Asia’s Songbird, “You still sound the way you always did, but because of what you’ve been through in life, there’s so much color to your interpretations, and to your vocal quality, and to just everything about you. You are one of the funniest people that I know. You have…one of the most amazing voices that I’ve heard.” Lea Salonga who is a mezzo soprano has to sing in Regine's key who is a full lyric soprano..that is why she said "wow that was hard". Haha

I've noticed Regine changing her tone a lot on different occasions. I like that.I remember watching one duet with KZ where she sounded so different to me. Also, watch her "I don't have the heart" performance. From 2000, I think.

Ms.Lea's singing ability is explosive. She's so good at controlling her voice, but strong power at the same time. And, Ms.Lea defines a real singer who can give you the lyrics or can make you believe in every song she's singing. She knows how to transmit her energy to people, and was born to burn the stage. She has always enjoyed her time on stage. A VERY HYPE GIRL also. No doubt, she's an international singer. Ay! No! She's a worldwide singer. The only two singers who makes people like they are watching a movie based on their songs story just by listening to them!! Absolute matriarchs of their own rights in phillipine music.. Its crazy that in the 90s they both sang and put in their albums one of my favorite songs at that time.. They both sang "sana maulit muli". Which composed and sang the male version as well by Gary V.. All 3 versions are so amazing.. please check it out .

To those who are saying that Regine should be Kim in Miss Saigon but refused it and not Lea got their information mixed up. Lea will always be their first choice for that role. The producers went to the Philippines and found a Gem (Lea) and brought her together with other Filipinos to London to learn more songs from the show and for her final assessment. Regine on the other hand auditoned in the US along with Jamie Nievera many years after. I'm not sure what year it is but some say it was late 2000 or early. The musical was premièred at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London, on 20 September 1989, closing after 4,092 performances on 30 October 1999. It opened on Broadway at the Broadway Theatre on April 11, 1991 and Lea was asked to return to the role for a couple of months for the Manila run and to close the broadway production. so if it's true that it was 2002 then it may be for the touring company.

Regine dabbled on theatre with few stage play here in PH during her younger years. During the Miss Saigon audition yes she was asked to go but it was her decision to not audition citing lack of theatre experience as her reason. Personally speaking, being a fan of her and watching some of her interviews i think she was quite insecure of being an actress. Her role model is Sharon Cuneta which have broken ticket sales and won numerous acting awards and she felt she can never measure up. She again mention this insecurities in one of her interviews when she transferred to ABS CBN. Although if i may mention she did a few rom-com movies that broken box office record during the 2000s and even winning a Best Actress award for a TV role. On another note. Shes a typical aries. Half “im never gonna measure up anyways” and half “im f@cking regine velasquez”- (thats a direct quote btw)✌️😂❤️

Nope she didn't bagged any role in miss saigon during her audition in NYC together with miss dulce way back 2002...the invite/letter that she received was a training in London just to make her singing voice theater/Broadway calibre.. And that's the reason why she refused the training not because she bagged any role.. Just so we are clear as in CRYSTAL.

Regine made the right choice to stick with mainstream pop than taking Broadway offers. She’s the bigger star. And pop music is where the money’s at. Especially that she has more freedom in the pop world than what she would get in the musical theater world. But there are other reasons and factors as well. Though she had a couple theater gigs in her early years, her theater background does not even come close to the likes of Lea. Regine also admitted that she does not have the discipline that is required in the theater world. Add to that her having mild dyslexia, she really would struggle doing musical theater, especially abroad. Plus, she gets homesick quickly that she would probably suffer from depression being away from the Philippines for months or even years like what Lea did.

By what measurement is she the bigger star? They are stars in different areas, and different arenas. Regine is the Whitney of the Philipines(in popularity at least), while Lea is highly revered in the States for her Broadway and Disney work. Most people in the States have no clue who Regine is. So, how can you compare and say Regine is bigger? Both have done amazingly well.

Her true skills are, due to the recording quality, sometimes hard to perceive. This is the point that really turns her decision to stay at the Philippines to a loss for the rest of the world and forms the basis for the controversial discussion about the quality of her voice . But whenever the recording quality is good and your audio system is state of the art, any doubt about the valuation of Michel Legrand becomes untenable.

How is she going to refused if there was no offer in the first place?She flunked her Broadway audition in NYC way back 2002 together with miss Dulce.. Not even ABS-CBN or GMA Have the GUTS to claim or report it that she passed her audition.. Yes, she received an offer but not because she bagged any role in miss saigon.. The offer was to train her in London to make her singing voice theater/Broadway calibre/like..that is why she refused it because it is only a training for her voice not for any role.. Not even Regine would not dare claim it during her interview.. She just answered I received a 1st letter blah blah blah and a 2nd letter which is a training in london but she never ever stated that it is for a role in miss saigon.. Because the interviewer never asked her what is that training all about?? Is that for role?? Is it because you passed miss Saigon.. It was never asked...Lea would have congratulated her right away if she passed like what she did with Rachelle Ann go..

So weird that Regine is singing so soft and Lea is so...not. lol. She was bringing her belt on here(she's usually a very light mixer, hence her saying "it was 'so hard'". She wanted to keep up with the belting queen! Meanwhile , Regine was focused on nuance and precision to keep up Lea , who is known for that. ) , which I appreciate, but some moments may have been more intense than I would like. Overall, a fabulous performance by both.

Regine also sang that same song in the medley with another famous male artist and they did just that and ended with perfect harmony like she did with Lea. Regine flunked her Broadway audition in NYC way back 2002..and those people who judged her are EXPERTS when it comes to musicality, artistry, technicality and vocals. Whatever your opinion is, it won't matter because you don't have the authority nor the credibility to begin with.. obviously lea won an international awards because she worked hard for it and she deserved it. but she can never be versatile because she has this voice na iisa lang ang tono which is pang broadway.. unlike Regine can sing different genre (classic, pop, rnb, ballad, broadway, et al), with a wide range (low to high) and has sweetness faminine voice, in short, she's everywhere (in music). nevertheless, has a beautiful face too amd a God loving individual. kahit na nasa tutok pa rin siya hanggang ngayon, she stay humble, that's she is still humbled by God. ❤️❤️❤️ she loved and idolised by most people! an inspiration to many kaya maswerte tayo to have her in our time. ❤️❤️❤️ the Queen of singers in the Philippines and one of the greatest singers in the world, the one and only Asia's Songbird Regine Velasquez! ❤️❤️❤️
