Hi Dr Parissis, very impressed with your degree of scientific rigour when evaluating the relative efficacies of the two forms through the various studies, and you picked out all of the key information that I was looking for on topical finasteride and delivered it in a concise and clear way. Great video!

As someone who got nasty mental sides from finasteride, I am now using topical and oral fin'. Low dose topical fin', and then oral a couple times a week seems to be working. The reality is you have to really find out what works for you, and then monitor the progress. Or the lack of progress.

How much and how often do you take it orally? Like .5mg every 3 days or something?

I feel a greater point is behind missed here. Topical finasteride would need to applied to the whole scalp not just thinning areas, to stop hairloss from proceeding. It's hard enough applying minoxidil with small volumes available to balding regions, let alone whole scalp with very similar volumes in ml of topical finasteride without overdosing

For the studies you reviewed where patients had good outcomes, what delivery vehicle was utilized? And what do you think would work best between Ethosomes, Alcohol/Ethanol, Propylene Glycol, Liposomes, or something else?

Great video!! So I did oral fin for 2 years from a derm. I had sides pressed through added minox at 1 year mark. Liked my progress. Currently on a compounded .1% and 6 % minox. I also run oral .25 3 times a week. My question is simple if topical goes systemic if I apply to hairline only will I get full head covering? If so I would give up the oral .25 I cant find anyone to answer this.

Hi Dr. Parissis. Would like to switch from oral to topical finasteride due to sides, but the topical liquid solution of minoxidil made my scalp very sensitive and pruritic in the past. Now I use foam minoxidil without issues. Do you know if they make topical finasteride with a carrier that is gentle on the scalp?

would slowly building up be a good approach? such as using saw palmetto for a few month, then changing to topical, then eventually maybe 0.5mg oral?

I had used oral Fin in the past and I was able to maintain for several years before it started losing efficacy. I switched to oral Dut and my testosterone went up, my libido increased but my hair loss continued. Is it possible that some people might have better results with Fin than Dut?

Is topical less effective if you still have some hair and find it difficult to apply to the scalp through the existing hair?
@DrParissis
@DrParissis 9 ай бұрын
This is a valid concern. Having existing hair in the way could affect how much liquid reaches the scalp. Properly massaging the solution into the scalp & perhaps using a little more in the areas where the hair is thicker usually helps some people.

If creatine increases DHT, does creatine potentiate hair loss? If so, if you take finasteride is this DHT spike mitigated?
@DrParissis
@DrParissis 9 ай бұрын
The idea that creatine causes hair loss came from one study of 20 rugby players who showed a small but statistically significant in DHT levels after creatine use. There have been other small studies showing that creatine mildly increases testosterone and there is a theory that this extra testosterone could be converted to DHT -> causing hair loss. However it’s unlikely to be a ‘needle-mover’, ie unlikely to have a big effect on hair loss. If someone is very sensitive to DHT and very prone to hair loss it could have a minor accelerating effect. But really further studies are needed on the topic!

Is 1ml of 0.025 solution (so 0.25mg fin) sufficient?
@DrParissis
@DrParissis 9 ай бұрын
1ml of 0.025 solution per application is mostly used. Most papers include 2x of these applications per day to show effectiveness. More studies are needed into whether 1ml (1 application) is sufficient per day versus 2ml (2 applications).
@davidzimara4540

So, 0.5mg per day is probably more effective or the threshold?

How to find a topical finasteride ? I Google it but there was no clear product.
@Polite_Cat
@Polite_Cat 4 ай бұрын
Keeps and Hims sell it in the US. Alternatively you can make your own. I crush my finasteride tablets into a powder and mix it into my 60ml minoxidil bottle. I use six 5mg tablets for a 0.05% solution that I apply twice a day. If you want once a day you can use 12 5mg tablets for a 0.1% solution or more. There are topical finasteride calculators online that can help you figure out how much you need for a given concentration. The solvents in minoxidil (alcohol and propylene glycol) are suitable to make it dissolve.

Results vary from person to person. Best give it 12-18 months and then evaluate. You are fortunate if you regrow hair on fin alone, it's good for maintaining what you have. Also how far advanced MPB plays a part, because they say once you notice hair loss from the naked eye it has already miniaturised a fair bit. I attribute that to one of the reasons I didn't regrow hair on fin! But it does work at stopping, so keep taking!

The side effects from topical should be just as reversible as oral if not more reversible due to less systemic absorption.

I don’t know why everyone doesn’t know by now that one persons experience is absolutely indicative of everyone else’s experience! It’s like, if one person doesn’t get side effects from a medication, the medical community should know that no one else could possibly ever experience any side effects. Duh! Why do they even use multiple people in clinical trials? So dumb they should just use one person
