I find blizzard videos irresistible for some reason. I really liked it when the house lights came on that nice street. People got out there and cleaned that snow off the entire street, not just their own house or car. Great teamwork!

But they only moved huge amount to the center or parking. That's all they done. All the snow were taken away by heavy machines. Without it they would stuck till summer in that huge snow drift they made in this "teamwork".

I originally saw this video back-to-back with some documentary about the Arctic, because I watched a lot of those over the winter months. The part at the end where the sun comes up after some of the snow has been removed is a perfect illustration of what's happening to our glaciers, and I will never unsee it that way. Just replace the asphalt with big dark expanses of sea water.

Winters have their ups and downs. I live in Canada and we need to shovel snow, pick at the ice and to be careful while driving. But we also have faeric winter landscapes, and ice skating, and skiing, and snowboarding, and so much snow we do the huge ice palace in Quebec City. It can be the harshest time of year but it has its beautiful days. Like when the sunlight reflect the snow whitenest in the morning sun.

I hope I will live in a snowy climate again and have to deal with the snow. I know it sounds weird, but I would rather do that than overheat in the sun and deal with allergies constantly because of the plant-perfect climate. I miss the quiet nights of a beautiful snow storm.

Nexees Agreed. I like winter WAY better than summer, especially with climate change tweaking the thermostat to “hotter” in the summer. For me, summer nowadays is sweat and stink and mosquitoes biting clear through the bug dope that I have to wear almost constantly from May to November or risk being a human chew toy for those bloodsuckers!

35 inches is bragging rights. That would be difficult in a lot of places. The UP (upper peninsula) gets around 150 to 300 inches a year.

I remember driving through snow so deep it was flying over the hood of the car. Fluffy snow is pretty easy though it's the wet stuff that slows you down. What is fun is when there is an ice storm before the heavy snow and the plows haven't made out yet. Talk about bumper cars. When you stop at a light you leave a car length in front of you. That way if the car behind can't stop you roll ahead.

Yeah, I used to work at a ski resort in Wyoming years ago, and we got 500+ inches of snow per year. It would regularly snow 24-36" in a storm. In the middle of winter, it was so cold that the snow was dry, and you could ski in chest deep powder easily. Toward the end of the season, it would get wetter and was very difficult to ski in.

whatfreedom7 Spain and the South of Italy are warm, it doesn't snow there because it's more on the south. Even Germany has only a small amount of snow in the urban areas but there's more in the mountains. Most snow in Europe is in Norway and Finland because they are in the north.

People need to prepare for natural and manmade disasters. What do you do if nobody comes to help your community? Everyone needs a backup plan.
