I had a 2003 accord LX with 500k miles, I replaced the ac compressor, power steering pump and lines, 2 alternators, 1 starter it was hard to get to, completely re did the suspension and brake system, water pump and 3 serpentine belts! A 2003 Honda accord was my very first car, I inherited from my mom back when I graduated high school, it had about 200k miles on it at the time, I didn't take care of it, I barely changed the oil, I never changed the coolant or or transmission fluid , I fell asleep on the highway, hit the median and still drove it home, I did less than the bare minimum, mainly because i didn't know any better. And that car still kept going, by the time I got rid of it, it had 346000 miles on it and the engine and transmission were still relatively solid. Everything else was falling apart though, the guy I sold it to apparently took the engine out and put it in another accord and kept driving it.

Around 2005/2006 was the era where Honda’s transmission debacle started to turn the page and they built reliable transmissions afterwards. Between 1998-2005 was the time where Honda did several trial/error with their transmissions but finally solved it. Lots of people aren’t aware that Honda is one of the only car brands that build their own transmissions where others get theirs supplied.

Great video, my ‘07 3.0 liter has 260k miles, I bought it in 2011 with 70k. I’ve replaced the radiator, starter, alternator, valve cover gasket, and power steering pump. I’ve replaced a few smaller items like the air intake boot to the throttle body. I have done most of the work myself and it’s all very easy to manage. I do regular oil changes and other maintenance things. I’m almost due for another timing belt, and the last two I had a shop do but am considering doing the replacement myself. It’s currently got an oil leak I think coming from the oil filter housing as well as maybe an AT fluid leak coming from somewhere unknown to me. The head liner needs replacing, the paint is going bad, and the front leather seats are coming un stitched. I had to emergency repair the ignition barrel recently by dismantling it and removing bend pins that were trapping the key. I’ve loved this car and am trying to keep it healthy up to 300k and beyond.

Original A/C system, though I did have to charge it myself once with those cans a few years back. I have replaced the mounts myself. I've also replaced the starter at relatively low miles - 80,000 IIRC. I just changed the power steering pump this past November. I also replaced the lower control arm bushings a few years back. I drive the car hard, but I've replaced the transmission in line filter a few times as well as draining and replacing the fluid in the trans.

Bought it for 3k and in 8 months have cost me around 800 including 4 new Godyear tires. I think if you are on a budget it is a great deal and if you like to work on cars even better. I love and hate my one and only car, my 2003 Gold Honda Accord Ex V6 that I have for almost 15 years. It had all the problems that you mentioned. Some problems keep on coming back(blower motors, the actuators, brake light switch, thermostat, alternator all been changed several times, engine and transmission mounts have been changed twice; even problems you didn't mention(sunroof leak, cylinder misfiring issues, pressure switches always fail; too many seals fail(camshaft leaking, valve cover gasket on engine leak, VTEC Solenoid Spool Valve Gasket near the oil filter leak, VTEC Solenoid Gasket Valve Cover above the alternator leak, transmission drive axle leak). My biggest repairs above $2,000+ were changing the transmission($2,400) and Honda dealer ripping me off on changing the mounts and fixing a cylinder misfire($2,600). Most of the repairs were between $500 and $1,000. Nowadays, I know this car so much that I take better care of it and fix everything myself(many repair shops don't want to repair cars that are 20+ years old because they can't find the parts anymore or should I say they can't charge us their own parts anymore). The things that I never changed are the engine, radiator, the wheels, the shocks/struts, the ignition coils, the door, the mirrors, the dashboard, the side and rear windows, the sunroof(even if it currently needs replacement), the seats(need cover), the steering wheel(it also needs cover). I've spent in repair twice as much as I spent to buy the car when I was a student. When the car has no problem, it is more fun to drive than my friend 2020 accord which uses CVT transmission. I haven't found any car that I like enough to trash my Accord and if I buy another car, it'll most likely be a Honda because Toyota's are very boring to drive.

Coming from personal experience, avoid the 2.4l models that fall under SULEV or PZEV if you live in a state that adheres to CARB (california air resources board). I say this as the catalytic converters on SULEV models require a more expensive catalytic converter (around $2000) than a LEV or LEV2. You can check by looking for a PZEV sticker on the driver side window, the emission system number, or a "SULEV" on the engine cover.

Have a Honda Accord 2004 EX V6, brought from the first owner in 8 yrs back in 2016 at 147K Miles now at 190K miles in dec 2024, if you maintain it and replace all fluids well before time and keep an eye on them it wil serve you well. I unfortunately had to replace axle, control arms, and a minor accident in parking lot did made it age faster. Over the time got stuff done Starter replaced, lower ball joint, pads and rotors, AC Compressor changed, CV Axle, exhaust pipe changed.... replaced with after market stereo, all speakers, boom box, amp and woofer. However because of my negligence I did not check the transmission fluid recently, last time I replaced the trans fluid was 3.5 yrs ago didnt drive much just about 10k miles but it got quite old and proly leaked, transmission got hard for after a long drive of 300 miles and it failed wile my return from that trip within 10 days recently in in Dec 2024, its transmission went bad and to replace it with a used transmission I got a quote from my mechanic for 2300$ all inclusive, fingers crossed... Even though I didnt maintain it well, I didnt had much knowledge of the cars before this recent breakdown.. it used to sit for 6 months or more idle in outdoor parking lot it still held up decently...

Yup the mounts too weak for the engine IMO. I had to do the fuel pump too. And the CV axles are known to snap too. And the steering pump failed on mine too but not bcz of the pump but bcz of the hose too it cracked in a hidden spot and it would suck air cavitating the pump. I had to replace the I think front pre-cat. Headliner is prob bcz of a leaking sunroof. Yup had to do the ignition switch and starter. The resistors for the stereo HVAC lighting become an issue. Had to replace the alternator (Hate doing on this engine) but that's not atypical for the mileage. I guess I got lucky on the AC. Still running strong 21 yrs later. I love the V6 tho. Nice linear pull in all gears. My car does great Hwy mileage. City meh. Oh and I like one thing tho abt this car. Most of the aftermarket parts are cheap compared to other cars IMO.
