I bought an '06 EX five years ago for $4K with only 120,000 miles. I replaced all the fluids including VTM-4 rear axle fluid. No rust issues here on the west coast so it looked like new underneath. Now have 155,000 and it still drives like a new car. The J35 is one of the best engines out there. Easy to maintain, I replaced the original timing belt and water pump with the Aisin kit in the driveway. Took about three hours. Change synthetic engine oil twice a year and do a trans drain and fill yearly. One of best cars I've ever owned. By the way I'm a retired auto mechanic and have always been a big fan of Honda and Acura.

Nice review. Nice SUV and I liked how you mentioned expecting repairs. Some used vehicles are a great buy; however, a catalytic converter here, a little oil leak there that turns out to be costly to repair should be expected. Thank You.

Very reliable vehicles. Just need to keep up with good maintenance and if you live in the rust belt, you have to go underneath scrap off any rust and apply rust protection paint in the rear subframe area because it tends to detach because of rust. Also very important replace the PCV valve every 30k to avoid oil consumption on the 4WD version. My 07 4WD just hit 161k miles I drive all over the north east. I replaced the radiator around 155k miles due to a minor leak. At 159k miles I replaced the original’s rear-coil springs and front struts, front controls arms, and sway-bar links. It rides like butter again.

I just bought a 2007 Honda Pilot. It has some rust issues in the typical areas like the one shown here, but it's in amazing, good condition for the year and price. I need to change out the headlights and a new stereo head unit with a touch screen, Bluetooth, and backup camera. It also has navigation, and I can run my apps to me it will meet all my needs, especially when using phone calls. The mileage is low, and the interior is clean and not worn. The previous owner had many interested buyers, and I almost lost it that day when a buyer showed up at the same time, but I made the deal just in time! 😅 I think I'm going to enjoy this SUV since it suits my old school vibe, simple and sweet! 😊

@kayjay4060 Yeah, I probably shouldn't have said it doesn't need it, I just know a lot of people will run an older honda in the ground without ever doing a valve adjustment. I'm curious, though. How often do you adjust your valves? Milage wise?

07 Pilot EX 4WD with 159k miles here. My mom bought it brand new with like 8 miles off the lot in 2006. Owned it for 16 years then I bought it from her. Never had an issue or even a warning light till recently. Radiator went out and the hood latch broke. Got that fixed. Also finally got a new timing belt a few weeks ago. So I got peace of mind for quite a while. Still purrs like a kitten and even the transmission is still shifting good.

Wheel well rust on Hondas very common mid 2000s until they started slanting that rear body line to help some of the standing water/sand/salt to drain off. Also, passenger side usually worse as there's more sand/salt on the edge of the road vs the center of the road.

hondas never seem to let people down, i have a few questions, if you are five two super thin person, you mentioned "pain" or something to that effect" for one to two hr rides, do you have a recommendation as to which suv honda wise can handle such thing, second if you want to make it sporty, is it possible to i say change the engine with a more pweerful engine like a turbo, and what is the basic cost in total for repairs if you take care of them like this one, what are talking $$$$$? i love to make them last in 350,000 plus range, then part with it when the costs of repair is really screaming to me in the red like just leave it for a homeless person or any person need a car/
