Before sending our tracks out either to stock or any music libraries or supervisors, do we need to register each with the US Copyright office or is natural copyright sufficient? Being new to sync, I haven’t had luck finding info specific to this. Love the videos.

How many finished songs would you need to get started?
@beatbuildersstudio10 ай бұрын
You don't need a lot. If your sending music to music production libraries to get accepted. I would make between 3 - 5 songs that are finished. Once you get in a library then I would focus on making themed albums of 10 songs.

Exciting. There are posts on YT where I always think to myself that I'm on the wrong continent and that it might be easier to make contacts overseas - at least that's the impression I get from this. But as a fictitious music supervisor, wouldn't I be annoyed if I was constantly being approached by contacts? In the series "Reacher" there was an exciting phenomenon (IMO episode 7; February 2022) when a very, very high similarity to a song of mine from August 2021 was audible. I would have liked to talk to the audio producer about this - not because the copyright was infringed (I never released the song; only spread by social media), but simply because the two tracks are so incredibly close together. BUT: As a (hobby) musician and friend of properly laid cables (gear and room), the coiled cord on the microphone arm is really sinister. I recommend Velcro - no adhesive tape, please. :D

First, thanks for the great info! So, can you have a song on Spotify and also in a sync library? Or should it be exclusively in a sync lib?
@yogadaily986410 ай бұрын
I think it depends if it's exclusive or not. A lot of these sync libraries might be exclusive which makes it difficult if you're constantly putting out music through a distributor.

This information is so valuable to me. Thank you for your great explanations and thank you for not being a gatekeeper of information. I want to do this career but be as much as a one-man operation as possible. No agents, no companies.. So if I could make a suggestion inspired by my wish for a guerrilla operation, I would love to know more about clearing one's music. Let's say a music supervisor takes the time to check me out and is intrigued. They ask me if my music is cleared. I want to definitively say "yep, it's all cleared and ready to go. Here's my proof." How do I acquire proof and get my music ready to be used? Is it a legal document that any old person can download and fill out? How is the law involved? Do I have to do anything besides copyright? Thank you very much again 🙏🏼
@beatbuildersstudio10 ай бұрын
The proof is that you made the music without samples that need to be cleaned. If you have other songwriters. You need something that states you have the authority to make decisions on everyone's behalf. Also working by yourself means you are a publisher as well. Meaning you have to register your own songs with a PRO. You can still work"alone" if you work with a music library. That's what I do. I'm in several music libraries. They act as my publisher. I send them music and they do all the backend work. My music is " cleared" because I make it all myself with no samples. The music licensing company acts on my behalf I hope that helps.
@laurenv122310 ай бұрын
@@beatbuildersstudio this was extremely helpful! Thank you for taking the time to craft such a thoughtful reply. I just have to figure out the "something that states I have the authority to make decisions"? Because otherwise, all the other criteria is me. I'm curious about a music library and that'll probably be the way to go for all my little two-minute vignettes. But my "real" albums are more valuable and interesting to me... So I'll have to start "making connections" without being That Guy somehow. Thank you again very much for the response!

Hi Before you try and get sync licenses for your music, should you legally setup/create a separate "artist" name and do business under that instead of your personal name? Do you have any advice videos on using a separate "artist" name, rather than your given name? Thanks!
@TopMusicAttorney10 ай бұрын
Having an artist name, if you are trying to be more anonymous, I think is a good idea. For sync situations, it matters a lot less, because typically your music is not being released on music platforms. So in your sync license you would just want to ensure that the credit given to you was for your artist name, if it was at the end of a TV show or movie, for example. Hope this helps!
