It doesnt surprise me when they dont find people lost in the woods. My son and I were in a kayaking accident and had to climb out of the water up the side of a hill/mountain. We called 911. We were on the phone with them the whole time. They sent the DNR, police, and fire department. They had our location through our GPS and we had whistles on our life jackets that they had us blow every 15 seconds. We could hear them on the megaphone and it still took them 4 hours to find us. This was all just a half mile away from the local high school. It was dense woods around us but even giving our exact area it really shocked me how long it took.

@@Frenchblue8 we were stuck on the inside of the river. It circles around and the only way to get out was to get back in the river. The current was to strong to back track and there were trees down from a storm which caused the accident to begin with. Once we got up the side it was so dense everywhere that we couldn't get down to the edge of the river anywhere else. They had to use chainsaws to get through once they located us and that took them about an hour to cut through. It was a big mess and fortunately we both had charged our phones before we left. As an experienced Search & Rescue worker, I can tell you that finding someone lost in the woods, is a LOT harder than most people think. We constantly hear in these stories how searchers were just feet away, but never saw anything, which makes many speculate the body couldn't have been there prior. But that just isn't true. Even under the best conditions, it's incredibly hard to locate someone. When law enforcement releases statements like "We just cant understand not finding them", that throws fuel on the fire. Because again, even under the best conditions, its incredibly hard to find people. I've been involved in numerous searches, and not found people. Only for them to be found later. One other thing I like to stress to hikers is this. You need to be prepared, and if theres any doubt in your mind about being able to get yourself out of the woods, don't go. Many people have a false sense of security, believing if they get lost, search and rescue will find them. But sadly, that is NOT the case. No matter how high tech the equipment is. It's like looking for a needle in a haystack, and chances are, unless you can help yourself, and at least make it to a main trail and stay put, you will not be found.

Just because someone is found within metres of where a searcher has been doesn’t mean they were in that spot when the searcher was there. It was around 11pm when we decided to drive back to the city. The dirt route we took was super rocky and being surrounded by trees, it was meant for Jeep’s or Trucks. Cars would struggle. The only light left we had were from the headlights. I remember my foot handing out the side of the door and decided to pull it in. I felt scared for some reason. I looked into the trees and couldn’t see a thing. I told him that it was a little scary being out this late and deep in the woods. That is when I heard that quote. Scared me even more. Exactly. That would not fly in my country (the USA.) You wouldn’t be allowed to refuse the family’s request to see the body. The family receives the body and chooses how it is handled, whether buried or cremated or whathaveyou. And we can take possession of the body and hire an independent autopsy to be done. David Paulides wrote about a similar case in one of his "Missing 411" books. Searchers were brought in, helicopters with FLIR were flying around for about 2 weeks. The searchers had a base camp, and they took the same trail in and out of that base camp every day for those 2 weeks. At the beginning of the 3rd week as searchers walked out on the (same) trail, there was the body of the missing man laying right in the middle of the trail. Paulides wrote about many, many similar cases. One was a School trip of teenage girls walking down a trail. The trail went down, and back up at one spot. One girl was about 40 yrds ahead, walked down the hill as the others were behind in a dip where they couldn't see the girl for a few seconds. As they topped that dip, the girl was gone. I can't remember the details of the case, whether or not she was found. It's been a long while since I've read about these particular incidents. So, if my details are off a bit, please forgive me. Lucas' "friends" are very suspicious and behaved in a manner I would not characterize as "friendly". -First, Lucas had a working cellphone, so why didn't any of his so-called friends called him? Why didn't he call them? -Second, he was obviously alive when he made the 112 call at 10pm, so why didn't his friends who claim to be searching for him starting at 8:30pm not encounter him? Why didn't he or they not respond? Or are we to assume the search party searched in silence never calling out his name? -Third, cellphones can be tracked and located. This is a fact, so the authorities should had been able to triangulate the location of his phone. So why didn't they? -Fourth, a healthy 20 year old does not just drop dead in 1 or 2 days outdoors. Why was there only 1 phone call? If he was dying and felt he had no hope of being found, wouldn't he had called his parents to at least say, "Goodbye"? There was a case of a mountain climber, Rob Hall, who was trapped on Mt. Everest. He knew he was going to die so he called his wife. Lucas Renoud was in a forest near a populated area. He was obviously in range for cell service. But he only made 1 call. Why?

"somehow became separated" I am left feeling very curious what all of his coworkers had to say about being separated. The detail that stands out most to me is that his coworkers didn't mind ditching him in the woods and they must have felt begrudged, complacent and inconvenienced by his disappearance, taking their sweet time to contact authorities

This is definitely one of the shady and confusing cases of late. So many questions still have to answered makes you believe “they” are definitely hiding something. Another thing is did they do a toxicology report? I wonder if there was GHB in his system? I think the family should keep fighting to have the case reopened and a second autopsy done and a toxicology performed and test for the drug GHB (date rape drug) Excellent job presenting this case as usual! I think the authorities are hiding something, and I think there was a third party involved and I’m not sure that it’s Lucas in that coffin. If you've ever studied the disappearances in state parks in the U.S. this case looks a lot like some of them. A person will vanish in an instant, sonetimes they are found dead, sometimes found alive, sometimes never found at all. Very unexplainable because kids have been found miles from where they disappeared and the ones found alive can't really remember what happened or explain the travel. In one horrific case, a young boy was lost and the last sighting of him was somebody seeing a boy dragged suddenly backwards into a clifftop cave. They say he looked distressed and there was really no way that he could have reached the location in the anount of time he had been gone.

We've got at least one hit on the Paulides Bingo Card (body found near previously searched area) and maybe a second one (death through undetermined cause/"exposure"). There is a bit of a contradiction present in the statements concerning the state of the body, which might be a product of translation issues. On the one hand, the authorities report that there is no sign of trauma that would indicate third-party involvement. But on the other, they insist the body is too damaged by exposure to be viewed by the family, which implies a sealed coffin. I'm not aware of all the civilian conditions under which it happens (doubly so in France), but sealed coffin burials are more of a military tradition (granted the gendarmerie was involved). Usually done when either your family really wouldn't want to see what's left of you, or they sent back a coffin full of sand because there wasn't anything left of you. So on its face, that's an odd little detail. Real odd.
@typster3 жыл бұрын
People in Europe don't do open casket/coffin burials that much.. Some of course, but it's largely American tradition.
@micheljavert59233 жыл бұрын
@@typster Ah, I did not know that it was a European tradition to seal coffins in such a way that they cannot be opened after a body is placed inside. It's curious why the family being unable to view the body was pointed out. Unless of course the strangeness is in the French authorities sealing away the body and interring it with (presumably) little interaction with the family beyond a burial notice. But if it's normal to seal caskets, then perhaps the French authorities thought they were performing a kindness for the family.

So in France, the government has the say so on who can see the body and when it's buried? The boys parents or someone should've been allowed to identify the bodyif they wanted. This makes no sense to me.

I used to know a guy who worked at a mortuary. One of the deceased was a man in his 20s who was hiking near some falls with friends and managed to cross a barrier and fall into the river below. It was two to three weeks before his body was found, it had been in the water and was a mess. The authorities sent the body to the mortuary without the parents seeing it. The family, especially the man's father, wanted to see the man one last time. The body, the man's face, it really was a mess. My friend explained as gently as he could that the man's son was unrecognizable and no amount of mortuary makeup would allow for an open casket funeral. I do not remember if in the end the father was persuaded to let his son be remembered as he was in life.

It seems odd that, if he was trying to find his way out for hours (as he states on the 10:30ish phone call with 112), and his group was searching for him from about 8 to 11, they would be shouting his name. He would hear them, and either respond to them, so they could find him... or he could move in the direction they were in. Also, if his family was not allowed to see his body, who identified him? My goodness! They wouldn't even let his mother verify that it was her son? Is that a French thing? Even if it's not suspicious, it's cruel. "Here's a box with your son in it. Don't open it. Just trust us. It's him. How'd he die? Dunno. But he's dead, and he's in the box." Sheesh.

Interesting case. The phone call, and the search shortly afterwards tends to suggest that he died suddenly. My guess would be anaphylactic shock, which could kill you in 15 minutes, but they'd probably have found that on the autopsy. So maybe, a sudden drop in blood pressure, or some kind of minor heart defect that stopped his heart beating due to exhaustion and stress.

I’d love to see the actual source, on screen, a bit larger. 🙏🏻 either way, subscribed! Also with respect to this case, why hasn’t anyone looked at his phone records apart from the emergency call? Like what was the location of his phone during those hours and/or he didn’t call or text any of his friends?? That seems a bit hard to believe if his phone was working.

I just want to tell my experience in a situation like this. I had a good friend die unexpectedly. His body was not suitable for a viewing. After the autopsy he was immediately cremated. When you get to the denial part of mourning, not seeing the remains is cruel. I don't know why westerns society thinks you're being helped by not seeing the body. His father wanted to drive him home so I know it was him. That helped a lot. I could trust him. I can't imagine the cruelty of not letting the family see him. To be the parents and not being able to move past the denial state is just unfair. "Saving" the loved ones from some imagined last memory is just stupid.
