This is the second shoe from Topo that I have reviewed and I really like the direction that they went with this shoe. By adding more midsole, the Magnifly is meant to be the most comfortable, cushioned Topo kick. The Runventure was an interesting, responsive, more minimal trail-centric shoe while this, The Topo Magnifly, is essentially the same shoe with a bit more cushioning. They also classify this as a road shoe, though it could work on more buffed out trails or fireroads.
I do like the additional cushioning. It's a welcome addition to what I thought were a bit too harsh of shoes in other Topo models. The added midsole does make this shoe feel more like a traditional road trainer, but can feel a bit too sluggish at times with its stiffness. It doesn't feel squishy like a Hoka, but has a bit more responsiveness in its cushion. This is good and bad for me as I would want a shoe that's one or the other, not necessarily both.
The upper, while nice and thin, isn't quite as forgiving either with the over-use of welded overlays. It does hug my foot very well, but at the detriment of heat retention and toe comfort - seriously, that toe box overlay is dense!
Overall, I'm happy to see Topo add a more cushioned shoe to their line-up and I'll definitely be keeping my eyes on the growing brand. What about you? Have you tried Topo and what do you think? Let me know in the comments below!

I have the magnifly, runventure and the flylite and I love them all! I will never buy from another running shoe company again as long as they continue to make shoes. Altra is just to loose in the mid foot and all the other company's lack a wide toebox box for toe splay

I just got my first pair of TOPO's in the Magnifly and I think I'm in love. I haven't put a ton of miles in them yet but the miles I have done feel great. I've been stuck on Altra's for a while and I do plan to continue to use them for trail shoes, although their road shoes have been lacking in my opinion. It seams like Altra wants to be so "natural" that they don't want to make a shoe that supports your foot at all. Which has meant for me after there road shoes break in, they don't provide enough support. That being said I think the extra protection of their trail shoes minimizes the aforementioned problem. I also don't like how Altra's and many other companies are using less Carbon rubber on their outsole. While it does make for a more responsive ride and a lighter shoes, it also minimizes the support, and makes the shoes wear out very quickly. I think TOPO has hit the nail on the head with this shoe. I'm a heavy (250LB) runner and durability and support are paramount to me. So that stiffness and excess overlay will probably be good for me. Great review!

+Christopher Roberts I feel the EXACT same way about Altra. I don't think I will ever venture away from the Lone Peak for the trail, but I ordered the Magnifly to try out on the road. Recently ran through a pair of Torins that started hurting my knees and feet @ 150mi. I'm a forefoot runner, but still don't have the best form, and while I'm sure that has something to do with the quick wear, 80-some cents a mile is an awful lot for running shoes!

I have not had these shoes for that long yet but like them thus far. They encourage great running mechanics and really strengthen the cars for running performance. My cafs are also less rocked after races because of this.

Looking at Topo Tributes for my next shoe. I prefer more minimal shoes, but am finding that I do need slightly more cush to save my feet from the punishment of longer distances. Seems like the Tributes are in that sweet spot. Merrell was my previous go-to, but they've definitely dropped the ball.

Considering this shoe Topo Magnify or Topo Ultrafly? What are your thoughts here is my recent history I have been wearing the Altura with zero drop. Wore the Torin model for almost a year which is neutral. Recently switched to Impluse which is stability. Both are zero drop. Now I have severe Achilles Tendinitis and plantar fasciitis. Found a shoe that works with Saucony Triumph ISO 2 and immediately Achilles tendinitis has reduce and the plantar fasciitis. Love the Saucony Triumph ISO 2 however it does not breathe and sucks up sweat so it becomes sloshy after and hour or more of running. Here are some specs on the Saucony Triumph ISO 2: Shoe Category: Neutral Pronation: Neutral Cushion: Plush Construction Type: Neutral Surface: Road, Track Arch: High, Normal (Mid) Water Resistant: No Waterproof: No Offset: 8mm Heel Stack Height: 30mm Forefoot Stack Height: 22mm Would you recommend this shoe or could you recommend another shoe based on recent history above?

Hey Ginger, you should review the Topo MT-2...I need to try some new shoes for trails/lite-road shoes with some decent cushion. I've ran with Salomon's sense pro for trail...but after 80 miles with them, I've notice that the salomon's are a bit narrow on the toes and a lot of hot spots. I was wondering if i should try altras or try a new company like Topo.

What do you think about the new Nike Air zoom Pegaus 32? I'm debating between the New Balance fresh foam zante (which was a great review) and the Pegasus 32 to train and run in for my first marathon. I've ran 2 half marathons in under 2 hours (both wearing Pegasus 31) but I just might want to change. Got any advice for me? Appreciate it thanks!

i'm interested to see what you think of the Flilyte if you get a chance to review those. I think a lot of the issues with the magnifly are less pronounced (for me anyway) in the Flilytes. I get what you're saying about the laces though. I feel like I'm way too *aware* of them when I'm running. That being said, out of the 4 or 5 different running shoes I've tried over the last coupe of years, the Flilytes are probably my favorite.

+Catherine Farrell they're just a little too heavy/harsh for my taste. Took some good breaking in to really understand them.

Ok so it's been 10 months since this review....how has that midsole held up? I wear shoes all day, every day, for everything. Literally...everything. I'm not a runner but I like quality footwear because it hurts less and lasts longer. I'm just worried these will crush out pretty quickly even though I'm not terribly hard on shoes. Thoughts? Thanks so much!!

What's your opinion on the UA Speedform Gemini? I bought XC spikes, now I need a solid running shoe for the road.
@IlikeOakleystoo

I've run in the UA Speedform Fortis, and it's really comfortable, but for road running nothing compares to Hokas. I know they're not as stylish, but the best road shoe I've run in. I've tried Ultra boost, Nike Vomero's and others, but Hoka cushioning is top notch, IMO.

after 260 miles of road running in Topo Fli lyte, the upper split apart from the soles on both shoes in the same lateral location. same thing happened in my VFFs after fewer miles. makes me think owner is using same manufacturing as his former employer and now leary to buy another pair.

Hi Kelly Mahoney, so sorry to hear you had a problem with your last pair of Topo Fli-Lytes. Please feel free to reach out to our customer service team at 617-831-4000. It's always a challenge to balance lightweight, breathability, and durability -- sorry to hear the shoe didn't hold up for you. That said, your feedback is helpful and appreciated, seeing where/how the shoe failed will help us in future manufacturing and development!

I feel like your not putting enough miles for a good quality review not saying its a bad review by any means but I would like to see how all your reviewed shoes hold up after 150-200 miles on them on the down side you couldn't do as many reviews so maybe thats why. I dont know, but id like to see some milleage reviews.
@TheGingerRunner
@TheGingerRunner 8 жыл бұрын
+Landon T Farnworth The problem is after you put that many miles on a shoe, MOST shoes are done for. I HATE shoes that need breaking in - that shows poor manufacturing decisions - they should be comfy out of the box, and remain so for as long as they last. 50+ miles on a shoe before a review is a LOT (and far more than most reviewers would even consider). If a shoe is decent after 50+ miles, they should hold up quite the same to 150-200 miles where most shoes break down anyways.
