Thanks for another great report Mike! Re: Habs: Agreed! At this stage of the off-season, Habs are no different roster-wise than last season's team. I know Hughes made offers but they all fell through. I don't blame him one bit for not offering major term for aging stars in their 30s!!! Habs don't need those types of players long term. Now....a 1-2 y deal for a solid veteran "F"....I'm all in on that.....even for Laine if the price is right. Also.....they need to move Dvorak....he's been oft injured and has not found his game in Montréal. Time for him to go. Armia came to life in the 2nd half of last season and was looking good. If they keep him I'm banking on him having a better season. Same with Anderson.....he was awol last season BUT not for lack of trying.....he worked his arse off and was snakebit BIGTIME. I'm betting he'll bounce back this year. As I've said before on various TSH posts.....the Habs Stanley Cup window is about 6-7 years i.e. the length of Suzy's, Cole's, and Slaf's contracts. Habs desperately need to "take the next step" towards the playoffs this season. They need to show improvement. They can't continue to languish at the bottom of the Eastern Conference...they need to start competing for the playoffs. Last point: I'm not convinced Montambeault can lead Habs to the Cup. Habs need a bonefide #1 goalie.

I don’t think Monty is the guy long term but the habs have the 3rd ranked goalie prospect right now
@grahamstark2362 ай бұрын
@JohnnyJMurphy volokhin? Cause everyone's sleeping on him. Could very well end up the 1A over Fowler. Fowler is shorter than typical NHL goalies... either way with the depth they have(Dobes could break out yet too) Habs could have big trade chips in net
@JohnnyJMurphy2 ай бұрын
@@grahamstark236 I believe it was the athletic but I’m not 100% sure. They did a top 30 I believe of forwards, defence and goalies. The habs had the 3rd ranked forward and goalie and 1st ranked Dman. They were Demidov, Hudson and Fowler. I seen this on a habs YT Chanel called habs digest. Anyway I don’t sleep on Volkhin either

@@JohnnyJMurphy monty is absolutely a stopgap. when fowler is ready, his backup will be primeau, dobes, volokhin, or someone we trade for or sign. i am super impressed with fowler, he has a lot of carey price in him. hopefully without the injuries.
@doaftheloaf2 ай бұрын
@@grahamstark236 i'm aware, but i think fowler has the higher upside. if he stops the puck who cares if he's not 6'8. but yes, volokhin was a sneaky good pick. dobes probably isn't more than a backup. miller is probably not even that. vrbetic and croteau will likely never see an NHL game unless it's in the stands. i don't know enough about vecvanags to say what he can do. nor connor hughes. i think that's all of them.

I’m a habs fan just taking into account what the asks are/where for Zergas and Necas compared to Liane that alone is enough of a reason to pick Liane. I understand some of the worry but this is how I see things. For starters he was likely “bullied” out of WPG like a few before him were. Apparently guys like Buff, Wheeler and Schifile were very vocal we will say to players they didn’t like. Liane then gets traded to Columbus, Liane goes from a “new” market in the Peg that was starved and ravenous for hockey. They are a big market and playoffs we’re a real option during his time there. Now your in Columbus, a small hockey market where playoff are no where close. A lot of the best athletes want to win and going from a big winner to a small loser must hurt inside. Now he get hurt and then the depression sets in, and that’s where I believe he was. These guys want nothing more then to win and most of these guys want the big markets and bright lights. Furthermore these guys have been winning and been “the guy” there whole life so my belief is this. Liane wants to win, he wants the spotlight and a big market again. Truthfully if you want to win and be “the guy” there are really 3-5 top tier organizations and they are all original 6. Montreal, Toronto and NYR are the top 3. Then Boston followed by Detroit and Chicago. If Liane wants the spot light, wants to be “the guy” then scoring 35-40 goals in Montreal is the place. You would be a god if you scored 40+ and lead the team to the playoffs again.

Robertson on the Ducks wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. He would fit in well on a third line. He is a bit small for what Verbeek wants but Verbeek wasn't big either. The Ducks are loaded with some pretty decent LD prospects that will probably never see playing time with the team due to sheer amount of quality D prospects in their pool.

HUGO should work towards helping the oilers decrease their cap issues by trying to move a cheaper Eman like Baron for Broberg who would be making more or Hollaway which I would love to see on MTL’s third line.

I know canada is a woke country/cancel culture but I think it's good euro leagues take guys or give chance to people who messed up. Leipsic,Rodewald,Virtanen,Voynov,Lehtera,these guys,Danton ect. I also don't think casual fans realize how big hockey's gotten worldwide and the pay. You see all the time good AHLers/Tweeners/former high picks go DEL,Sweden,NLA,KHL. Czech,Finland,Slovakia don't usually bring in as much NA players but still good leagues. Even tier 2/3 like France,TheAlps,Norway,Denmark,NLB,DEL2 get low level AHL/ECHL/College kids. It's also why getting KHL guys is hard if your making 600k-1m or more why would you take a chance to not play NHL time and be sent AHL where would make 100k-200k players on base AHL contract make less then 80k. And ECHL is weekly.

Not all Habs fans are against a Laine trade. I was totally all against it at first, but when i seen what we could get him for... I mean especially if u can get Columbus to retain even 25% that makes him around $6M, if he can net 30 goals, he's worth $6M to me. Habs offense is their weekest spot, so i hope they do something, i dont expect to make the playoffs this year, but id like to, at least, be entertained.
@doaftheloaf2 ай бұрын
they don't have to retain if they take on one of our bad contracts like anderson or gallagher.

I think ur exactly right, the Habs said they wanted to get someone who could put the puck in the net, but when they picked up Demidov, they seemed to have forgotten about the goal scorer we DESPERATELY need, and the team's not very similar to what it was last year, it's the exact same team, prepare for another top 5 pick next summer... If someone told my old man in the 70's that the Habs would be in the bottom 5 pretty much every year of the 2000's, he would have spat his beer out laughing at you, it's so sad what this once proud franchise has fallen to. I still love them, but they make it harder and harder all the time, lately i have been happy with most every move. I just want to at least make a run for the playoffs, i know, it's coming...

How many times have the habs been bottom 5 in the 2000s exactly?! They've only been bad since covid?! Not finishing in the bottom of the standings is why there's been a lack of talent outside the net the last 20+yrs

It's funny. The KHL, which is fronting the morally bankrupt country of Russia, says to these players accused of a crime; well, you're innocent until proven guilty. Meanwhile in North America, the attitude of most hockey fans is "Hang'em!". We live in strange days indeed.

Please stop drinking the Canada/US mainstream media (brain-rotting) Koolaid, before you parade your apparently inch-deep grasp of the geopolitical realities of our time, here on a fine hockey channel🤔! Seriously, parade your boneheaded Russophobic nonsense, here, again, and I may be tempted to dispense with my usual pleasant mindset on this channel and list ALL of the "morally bankrupt" episodes in recent Canadian and US history in the last 30 years, for a little necessary contrast. Then again, it might take me the rest of August, to get through the entire twin lists concerned, so I may have to adopt a more disciplined 'selected lowlights' approach, if the time comes to start typing out that one🙄. I come here to enjoy the hockey related issues and news that Mike does such an admirable job of keeping everybody informed and up-to-date on. There are plenty of other channels where you can air your seemingly rather immature asides, by the way, so probably best to stick to those in future. Thanks for the continuing hard work, Mike...apologies for having to step in firmly, here in response to THIS particular post.
