Who the hell is thumbs downing this awesome video? Clay and the TSG crew bust ass to put together these FREE videos to help us with our fledgeling golf games and that’s the f’n thanks they get? Either quit trolling and show some gratitude, or go play in freeway traffic. Great stuff as usual Big Clay (Noticed that in your older videos you wasn’t quite so swoll, the homies must of got at you a little bit 💪😂) and the TSG Crew.

This helped me a ton, I`m 58 I used to lock my front foot and could not turn through the shot. I slightly open my front foot know with my driver and irons. I`m starting to compress the ball for the first time ever. I come 3/4 back and turn through the shot. I wish I was taught this years ago. Your instructions are simplistic, and I am putting all of your advice into my swing. Which looks beter than it has my whole life. Your`e the master teacher all right. GREAT CHANNEL

OMG, huge help! I have been away from the game for about a decade. I had a hip replacement in 2019 and spinal fusion last December. I took some lessons early this year to help get back in the game. One of the first things my instructor told me was to keep my left foot planted. As I rotate through my back swing I just am not able to rotate to my right. As such I keep pulling all of my shots to the left. I am fairly certain it is because my swing is mostly arms and I end up over the top. Anyway after watching this video I adjusted my feet to be more open, but more importantly I let my left heal lift up on the back swing. BOOM! I hit ball after ball straight and with distance. Felt great and gave me more confidence.

Clay, I'm 63 with a sore lower back and a left knee replacement. After watching this video, I went right out and shot 80 - second-lowest round of my life, and more than ten shots better than my last 5 rounds! Higher hands in the backswing seems to take some pressure off my low back, and gave me a more consistent ball strike. Thank you so much for these tips.

I suffer with a muscle disease, and struggle with movements on all the points you mention, as well as balance problems, I only manage driver speeds of about 70mph and only hit the ball [carry] about 125 yards. I will try all the tips you give and see how I get on, but I have found the more I think about what I am doing, the less fluent my swing is. I am sure it's possible to hit it at least 30 yards further because at least one of my drives each round does so. Thanks.

Great summary of restrictions we face. I've golfed it seems forever but am still a "hacker." I now have 2 strikes: age 70 and MS affects my walking, flex, balance and tremor; but I ain't quitting! My wife (golf partner) tees my ball then away I go. I'm a classic case of not finishing my turn (balance) so that sucks. I'll practice your suggestions this winter to make a fuller (not faster, choppier) swing. Thanks.

Clay I love your videos. They are straight to the point and make a lot of sense. I am 68 and my swing speed is 84-85 Mph with total distance of 230 yards. In an effort to get more club head speed I lifted my left foot really high and turned my shoulders and torso to the max. I thought I was getting more club head speed because I was making solid contact. On Trackman I was actually getting 3 MPH less club head speed. When I went back to lifting my left heel about half way up I found my club speed head come back again. Should I continue to lift my heel up high or should be content with what I had. Your comments would be appreciated.

I took my Taylormade M4 to a fitter to have the settings checked. He noticed my backswing was lacking. So, he had me swing and turn my head back until my back faced the target. (it took several attempts before I could hit the ball) and rotate my hips. My driver went from 209 yards to 280 in 8 or 9 drives. This oppressive hot weather has me limiting my practice time. Hopefully, I’ll get to work on these tips soon. Great video.

Thanks for this instructional video. I have already identified a couple of things that I can do to help my swing. One question, though. I had a spinal fusion in my cervical spine (c5-c7) in 2001. This limits my neck mobility quite a bit. There is a lo-profile titanium plate screwed into the c5 and c7 vertebrae in addition to the bone graft covering the span c5-c7. Any suggestions?

Hey Goerge, you can only do what you are capable of doing physically. This may limit your shoulder turn a little bit if you can't turn your neck. I would make sure that you get a good hip turn, lag and weight shift so that you don't lose too much distance. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

As I get older (now 71), I realize that the traditional “position golf swing” is a destructive method unless you are in excellent health and young. The old method creates tension in the hands, forearms and especially the lower back which kills distance and certainly not for the average golfer as he or she ages. The theory that if you execute the many positions demonstrated by instructors as well as tour pros, you will have success. I see that you have picked up on a true easy swing as demonstrated by Julian Mellor and Brian Sparks (Positive Impact Golf) in the U.K. Easy to learn, stress free and kind to the body. Check out the 3 deadly don’ts.You are already on to one of them with the left heel lift.

Hi Clayton love the video's! On the back swing my right arm (I'm left handed) bends quite a bit as it moves higher over my head, how much of a compromise is it to a good swing? Should I shorten my swing to keep it straight? Or is that O.K. I notice all pro's keep it straight which I assume creates a longer lever. Thanks for your help.

The biggest problem I have sometimes is I hit behind the ball on drives and irons. On drives, I set up on my left heel., and I hit just behind the ball, I then put the ball, a ball width back in my stance only to hit behind it again. I again put the ball back in my setup, but most of the time, I then top it, on and on. Same thing with my irons. I give up. Is there anything I can do to practice on and look for while I'm over the ball?

Excellent video! I'm not a Senior, but a bad shoulder prevents me from swinging 100% (parallel to the ground). I found the first drill to be quite effective. Pretty amazing that by simply raising the left heel has created a range of motion/swing increase of about 20-25%! As you stated...it worked for Nicklaus and Miller, and then proved by swinging both ways and getting a substantial increase in club head speed and distance, with the left heel raise. Thanks for the tips and I look forward to others!

I can get my arms going behind me on the overhead drill, so high hands are no prob. How do I make sure they don’t get too high (if there’s such a thing)? Nice vid. Common sense and practical 👍
@TopSpeedGolf5 жыл бұрын
Hi, they can't really get too high. Everyone is built differently so you just have to do what works best for you. If you get better results with flatter swing then do that (Matt Kuchar). If you get better results with a more vertical swing then do that (Bubba Watson). Not everyone should swing the exact same. There are only a handful of things that all great players do and that's what we talk about in the TSG System. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

@TopSpeedGolf5 жыл бұрын
Hi Curtis, I would not recommend limiting hip rotation. If you limit your hip rotation then you're going to limit your shoulder rotation. Just try to get more separation from your hips and your shoulders. If your hips are rotating more than 60 degrees then you can tone that down. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

It may make it more difficult to hit it in the center of the face and also control the low point of the swing arc. If you can do both those and lift the leg completely helping you increase your power then go for it! Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

Looks easy to practice... my body is so stiff that I’m having a hard time turning. Most of the times I use my arms.

I think the PGA Champions Tour is missing a Golden opportunity to highlight “Golf in your Golden years”. This tour (in my opinion) should be “Golf is for Life”. It should showcase golfers they can play at a higher level in their 60s and 70s and 80s. Unfortunately the Champions tour is a tour where 50-52 year old PGA players can win. (I am so glad that Bernhard Langer is still playing well, and is proof that this can be done in your 60s). I would suggest that the champions tour could have something light weight classes that we see in Boxing so you would have the 50 year olds competing, the 60 year olds competing, the 70-year-olds competing, this would draw out Golfers from around the world and even give athletes from other sports who also Love to play Golf a real target to shoot for for their golden years, after they have dominated the previous sport. this is an opportunity to show how golf is beneficial and fun for lifelong health. I can imagine the opportunity for a number of sponsors looking to back this tour, because of the focus that it would have on Life Long Health.

I saw an interview of Jack Nicklaus a few years ago in which he claimed that he turned his head slightly to the right because even though he was right handed, he was left eye dominant. I do it to get my chin out of the way of my left shoulder in the back swing. :-(

Hi, I think he also did it for that same reason. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

Most people are cross dominant 👁

@@titletowntim I'd need scientific proof of that.

Clay, you said you didn't swing harder on the second swing taking your arms higher. Watch again; you think you didn't swing harder, but you did swing out of your shoes on that second one. there are many long hitters at my club, 285 plus who don't take a full shoulder turn and take the club to slightly more that the L position, but they have strong upper bodies and core.

Hi, thanks for the comment. Some people can hit the ball pretty far with a shorter turn but they can also hit it further with they swing longer. We regularly have guys that come to our distance clinics with short swings and leave with 10+ more mph from swinging longer and many of them actually hit it straighter. This has just been my experience though. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

Clay you're still a youngin. This is what it feels like to be a senior - first, the day before, haul 100 80lb bags to get your back sore & stiff where you can't tie your shoe laces and it aches to reach them. Then strap a 80 lbs of weight around your torso so you're like us in the 270+ lbs category. We don't have much energy. So no coffee or food for hours until you're tired. You're a good guy - I'm just givin you an idea of what it's like.

Hi, never heard it described like that. I don't think it should feel that way. Best of luck! Quentin | TSG Instructor
