I love Oscar Wilde's take on emotions; he said ― “I don't want to be at the mercy of my emotions. I want to use them, to enjoy them, and to dominate them.” I recently spent a month analyzing Batman's emotional mastery. He's the paragon of this virtue and provides an enlightening yet entertaining lens to look at emotional control through.

I've heard this clever figure of speech before hehe. I would say it's definitely good advice for some, but maybe not for all. There are many people on this planet who would do well to listen more thoughtfully to others, rather than just yelling their sides political views. But I also believe there are many of the more quiet ones of us that would do well to learn to summon the bravery to speak up, and not be too afraid of making mistakes when we do. That's what I've been trying to do more of lately, and I did make some mistakes but I am learning from them

You know, you can only bring a horse to the water, you can't make it drink. At the end of the day, a person only changes because THEY want to. So if you're always trying to be a lifeguard, but you can't get them out of the water, you get out, because if you stay, you'll drown with them. Tell them you're thankful for them, and kindly kick them out of your life. That could snap some sense into them and make them listen, and if it doesn't, you're just gonna go on with your life without carrying all that dead weight. Treat yourself as the most important person you know, because you are.

As awful as that sounds A BIG YES! The above comment is so very true. All my life my toxic, selfish, immature mother caused the family, myself immense pain, with cruel vicious games lies, always blaming other. My mother was so awful that when former family friends, note former, people never stuck around for long, ran into me i was not asked how is yr mother, most of the time she was not asked about, if she was it was is the wicked witch dead yet, or i hear yr mom is still around, I am so sorry. No joke. When i sought help, counseling in my early 20s i was told not once but several times by several therapist to get that women out of my life ...., I would try but it was something she seemed to enjoy, like it was a challenge, she made my life worse. Finally in my late 40s during an awful family tragedy, a loss of a child, then a diffuclt divorce i sought counseling once again for those issues, this time my therapists did not recommended getting her out of my life, demand that I did, told me he could not, would not help me if I did not, told me i could seek other help but any descent therapist would tell me the same thing, also getting help would only be undetermined by her so it would not do any good. I felt like a bad person, felt like I was cruel, you no turn other cheek, maybe she couldnt help it, oh she could help it, other people thought of me as selfish mean for thinking of turning my back on her. I really wanted help and all the uglyness she dished out to stop, for her when things were bad for someone she thruved on it, enjoyed making matters worse. It took meva few months, the therapist predicting her reactions and behaviors, showing me how bad she was making issues, showing me how she wasnt helping me not being a friend , much let alone a mother. I did it , i was divorced, i packed a few things and literally started fresh in new city, i did not tell anyone where i went, went off grid in away. I focused on dealing with things, fixing me. Its been 8 yrs and getting her out of my life was the best thing i could do for myself. My sister had done what I did but in her 20s, moved out of state, got married had 3 kids never allowing our mother to be involved in her or her family's lifes. I managed to forgive and ask for forgiveness from my ex husband , people and family i truly cared and loved i was able to rebuild those relationships, slowly, some understood and respected my decisions. Those who did not, or those who thought they knew best who would have me over then surprise my mother was there. I turn my back on totally. You may think thats awful, that i was selfish, i know it wasnt and i now no how great life can be without all the drama, the hurt, the embarrassment, the quilt. If you have given it yr all, if you are drained, tired give yrself , what yr parents have not given you, unconditional love and happiness. Walk away. They wont change, they thrive off it, they have each other, you have issues not them ..... you deserve a healthy loving life, how can you give that to someone when you cant give it to yourself? Something you so deserve. Sorry this is so long, but this is very close to my heart, i have been called a heartless bitch, selfish , by people who only saw my mothers facade, believed her bull, people who ran out of her life later on. Butnyou know what I am a happy heartless bitch, who may have gotten of the crazy train some what late , i am sorry i didnt jump off that crazy train along time ago. JUMP OFF , dont worry what others will think or say, worry about you for once, not what craziness yr parents are up to. I wish you the best. I wish for you love, happiness, inner peace and strenght, YOU SO DESERVE IT
@rhondakestin58533 жыл бұрын
You have 2 choices: learn to be super skilled at spotting their games and craziness, plus learn how to deflect rude and insensitive comments, or say "goodbye!". As a person of spirituality, I used to have the idea of being totally unselfish and to remain committed and loyal, no matter what! However, while praying and reading the Bible one day, I came across Matthew 18: verses 15-17, it says that if someone constantly offends you, you should: 1. Try to talk to them privately. If this works, great! 2. If not, you need to ask someone mediate between you. (My parents, who attend a completely different church, I asked them to go to a counselor.). If they agree to the mediator, and if they & you listen to that 3rd party, and patch it up, you're good to go! 3. If they refuse mediation, or they refuse to listen to the mediator, even the Bible says to treat them like publicans and sinners, who were considered the worst scum in Jesus' day. 4. Cut them off, if you can't get it resolved. I'm sad, I do miss seeing them, but I don't miss all the negative, cutting remarks, the gaslighting, and my father's impulsive temper explosions!! He's 86, Mom is 82, and I probably won't ever see them again.😔. But I also don't have someone speaking curses over my life and future!!🙌

So funny... ad hominem happened to me during a discussion I was having w/friend. I had no articulation to say what was done but that part of the convo disturbed me greatly. Now I know it was because it was coming from an emotionally immature place. Thank you. 👍🏾

Here's a look at some signs of emotional immaturity that can show up in a relationship and steps you can take if you recognize them in your own. They won't go deep. ... Everything is about them. ... They become defensive. ... They have commitment issues. ... They don't own their mistakes. ... You feel more alone than ever.

I agree! It happened with people in their 50’s-60’s....... They won’t grow up. I have dumped old friends. Quit working for them and, I have a right not to provide them service. In 2011 including my former doctor that, I have seen lot of complaints online. Behavior badly. So, I walked away too.

Hey reminder here,not all emotionally immature people are toxic,maybe they just don't have enough experiences. It's best to tell them though,I'm an emotionally immature person myself and I'm working on it,although remember that growing the hell up is their responsibility not yours.

One more major maturity sign is that having empathy rather than sympathy and having wisdom. major immaturity sign is that judging other by their appearance, blind beliefs, lack of accepting the facts about anything and illogical about emotions.

Same my mom does most of these. My real question is I recognize that I’m guilty of the one about impulse control so I’m wondering if I’m across the board emotionally immature or just in that aspect.

@@emmanemz6237 well according to me emotionally immature ppl usually don't agree to the fact that they r emotionally immature and I guess I'm pretty immature coz sometimes I do get angry or annoyed at small things.
@emmanemz62374 жыл бұрын
@@albinmichaelshibu3048 some times that can be from a lot of stress just piling up and the straw breaking the camels back. I’ve seen a lot of people that are very mature snap like that. However, the fact that I’m compulsive (in bad ways) has no reason like stress in your case or this that and the other. I know that it’s a toxic trait that people close to me have pointed out and I’m trying to change it but god damn it’s pretty hard. Lol. When I watched this I was trying to control and manage that behavior but a little under 10 hours after that, I drank more than I intended on and drank later than I intended too. I’m as drunk as a skunk typing this btw😂

You're putting a whole lot of people under this umbrella of reasons, when some other causes could be bigger things like 1. developmental issues - sometimes when people have mental issues and don't exactly act their age, it's due to other psychological and neurological issues. 2. Manic depression. I've met plenty and lots of them have very little control over their emotions and the smallest things sometimes DO set them off. Your video makes emotional immaturity sound like a choice - which it is sometimes for some people, but for other people it's uncontrollable, unavoidable and harder for them to deal with than it is for you.

easier to say then do sometimes you're just naturally surrounded by immature people because pf certain variables. you may just be stuck best you can do is keep to the books i guess going to the library to study your mind and educate yourself would be a healthier alternative then continuing to be dragged downwards
