Kieren never fails to impress with his reviews! I love how he dives deep into the unique features of these American micro-brand watches. That field watch with the WWII plane dial is absolutely mind-blowing

It's called a canteen watch. Navy UDT (Predates the Navy SEALs) wore these. They can be "Love em of Hate em" I guess.

Mmmm... thanks for the review. Need to think about whether I can spring for this... my dad flew 97 missions over the Himalayas in WWII in C46's and C47's. I'd seen an ad for it and forgotten about it. Great to hear your take!

I've never found a problem with a ghost date. Invariably, when adjusting the date, I usually pull the crown out too far anyway.
@TopTierTicker4 ай бұрын
You must've less OCD than the rest of us then. It's obviously not a problem, just an annoyance 😂
@jokur26304 ай бұрын
Agreed. My sort of OCD isn’t triggered by a ghost date but it is triggered by a lack of balance, symmetry or poor date window implementation. On these particular watches I dislike the ginormous crown protector on the supposed diver and the shtick of the pretend military watch. And $150 would seem high to me for either of these. While these are miss for me I do appreciate you bringing us something different Kieran, please keep reviews like these coming, thanks!

Man, those are 2 interesting watches. The up close shot of the dail on the 'diver' gives me Jack Sparrow vibes, lol. But I'm putting my name in for the notification for the field watch. The dial on that one is the piece de resistance and I've gotta go with the heavy wear and tear if I get a choice. Thanks for this one. New favorite American micro-brand is correct. Nailed it. Thanks, Kieron!

Hey, thanks for coming over. TGV was the one who got me into watches. I have endless respect for that guy! Praesidus is a brand for you then my friend. They focus on military watches with great stories. This field piece is one of the coolest ones I've ever reviewed for sure!
@jaydub95094 ай бұрын
Thanks for the review, Kieron! Like others have commented, ghost date doesn't really bother me. That being said, one of the next watches I'm building will have an NH38. Funny, but I was thinking the D-day watch might look better if the hands were outlined in black, and then you showed a brief clip of their web site where that appears to be the case.

I'm going t pick one small nit here: the C-47 was not a fighter plane, but rather a cargo/trsnsport plane-- to be more exact, it was the military version of the DC-3 Dakota. Yes, apart from a watch nerd, I'm also a (military) aviation enthusiast. I really like both watches, but especially the C-47. Cool brand, love the video. Keep up the good work!
@TopTierTicker4 ай бұрын
Thanks for clearing that up. It's just my terrible use of terminology. I was trying to say that it's a plane used in combat... Appreciate your viewership. Stay well my friend

@DavidMartin-tk4fs4 ай бұрын
12:38 , the C37 is a cargo plane not a fighter and REC have been doing watches with salvaged faces for years. I have an original mini one here, they do porsche ones and recently have done memorials to the spitfire with a face made from remnents from an actual fighter. I have issues with REC's actual design, especially the mini , but they should be credited for executing this concept sooner although I doubt even they were the first. I do like the clean field design and the punched numerals give it a military dog tag feel which is what I assumed was the point... maybe that will be their next move.

hi Kieran! nice review as usual. regarding input, I feel anything with a ghost date is just not trying. Regarding the non-dive dive watch, I don’t think it would appeal to someone who doesn’t care for dive Watches. I feel they should’ve gone all in. it’s super cool steam punk vintage diver. The dial material on the field watch is amazing however far too much real estate. Slightly larger numbers, or moving the numbers towards the opinion and railroad track or putting some text from the back in the front would balance it out. the hands are plain in a bad way. syringe style would look great. keep up the good work!

Nice review Kieron, the watch has some unique fixtures but is it really a dive watch, without being able to accurately time a dive and poor lume I think this is a miss. You can dive in any 200m rated watch but that doesn’t make them dive watches. Not sure if Hamilton will be to challenged just yet.

Well.. not taken with the textured dial on the 'diver' clashing with everything else - as if a soldier has a added a silly jumper to his uniform, then the crown is even sillier. The 'aluminium' watch looks great though - points for the clean unbranded dial, just a bit too thick and I suspect - lacking the legibility of a true field watch.

To me, that brand and its whole fake military shtick is a as cringe as it gets and it's veering into tastelessness with their terrible Normandy sand watch. Praesidus isn't alone in this. There is this British brand "Zero West", which sells watches at ridiculous prices with names like "Battle of Britain" and watches named after WW2 planes (Lancaster, Mosquito). Am I the only one who finds that type of branding really weird? It's been 80 years since the end of WW2 and these microbrands have zero heritage that would connect to any of it. Why are people buying this stuff? Am I the one who's crazy because I find it embarrassing?
