That hornbeam is stunning and it's good to see even the pros get a bit of unintentional wire bite

Yes, sometimes is hard to keep watch on all trees in the garden and wire bite happens ... :-) On conifers this is not a problem, but on broadleaves it is. Luckily the hop-hornbeam (Ostrya carpinifolia) is still young in its development and in next few years the scars will disappear (hopefuly).

the maple is nice but very straight maybe air layer and regrow the apex from a lower area ?

By my experience after aplyinhg the aluminium foil wound heals at least one-time faster then without foil. Foil creates a microclimate and helps to hold moisture.
