This episode is emblematic of where the entire series is going. In the later seasons it gets alot more stylized and smooth as it figures out its identity more, like what we see here.

Something that I think is important to keep in mind is that this older guy’s family didn’t know what happened to him. He just disappeared one day. So they thought he had left them. The comparison of Aaron’s wife and kids dying in a car crash isn’t the same, because this man’s family lived one. They were never given the closure of know why he left, and had to just live with that. Also, he was, what, 50-60 years in the future. He was living in a world he didn’t know, with technology and pop culture he didn’t know. Plus just the way of thinking about people (specifically talking about racism, sexism, and homophobia) would make him very unlikable to a lot of “modern” people. I get why he did what he did. All the pain that was caused around his disappearance, plus the chaos of not fitting in or having an respite in this new place… it can be too much 😭

The actress that plays the woman pilot from the 50s was almost 40years old at the recording of this episode I think (she was born is 1969) she still looks just as beautiful now

This is by far my favorite episode of the 1st season!! All of the plot lines were so good but my favorite was jack’s… I definitely felt the pain of the guy and the ending was as crushing as it could be

Great episode. One of the strongest of the season. I would say that this episode along with episode 12 and 13 are the best that Torchwood offers in this first season.

I don't know if you noticed in the first episode, but Gwen has been lying to Rhys since before she joined Torchwood. It's subtle - he asks her about this murder he heard about on the new WHERE SHE HAD JUST BEEN and she says "No, nothing to do with me." I love Gwen, but she's kind of messed up.

This is where Torchwood hits its stride and figures out its identity, and then loses it when Miracle Day starts. While this episode is fantastic my favorite of Series 1 is Captain Jack Harkness.
