More like bad writing... They should've spent more time on Tosh and Owen getting together if they wanted a heterosexual romance in the team. Gwen is my favourite character but dear God her romance with Jack was badly done and unnecessary. It was clear they were for some reason trying to do a love triangle but it just makes no sense.

It isn't in Torchwood because it was supposed to be discussed later on. If I remember correctly, Jack was supposed to appear in "When a Good Man Goes to War" when the Doctor calls upon old friends for the favor to save Amy. It would have made a lot of sense with the headless monks, as he probably would have had his head cut off or whatever, but considering heads can live on after the headless monks, the rest of his body wouldn't regenerate with him and boom, you got the Face of Boe. The reason Jack never appeared is because I believe there was a scheduling conflict with Jack Barrowman and Moffat decided to just drop it and focus on the story arc of the season.

That... actually makes an alarming amount of sense. Though, I'm no sure if you're necessarily correct, if only because RTD felt like Jack=The Face of Boe was one of those questions that should NOT be confirmed - then again, nobody said Moffat had to follow that. IIRC, Moffat created Madame Vastra and Jenny to substitute for Jack's absence, but I could be mistaken.

ok so I have quite a lot of things to say about this episode and what they said about it. First of all Jack never liked Gwen like that. Yes there was tension between them but that was because Gwen likes Jack. The reason why there was tension between Jack and Gwen when Gwen told Jack about Rhys proposing to Gwen is because Gwen was mad at him for not being there when Rhys proposed and when she told him about it Jack was disappointed in himself for not being a better friend and being there for Gwen. Second Ianto was never just a second option for Jack because he couldn't be with Gwen. Jack and Ianto started hooking up just after season 1 episode 6 (that is in the audio drama broken which is an official torchwood story) and it was also hinted about that at the end of season 1 episode 8. So if Ianto was just a second option or even someway for Jack to cope with the fact that he can't be with Gwen then why would he have been with Ianto from halfway through season 1? In my opinion it seems like some of these guys were trying to dismiss the fact that there is a relationship between two men and they are trying their hardest to make it straight when it obviously isn't which to me seems kind of homophobic. Feel free to disagree with me but please don't come at me because this is just the way I see it.

They have 103 episodes to go until they catch up with all the currently aired episodes to date. But factoring in that Series 11 and it's Christmas special will have aired by the end of 2018 as well that pushes it up to 114. To do all of those you're looking at over two years from now - so early 2020. And by then it's a fair assumption Series 12 and it's Christmas special will have also aired, pushing the total up to 125 (under the assumption it doesn't change from the format and structure Series 11 is going for). 125 weeks is about 2 years and 5 months, so they'll be up to date with the TV pace around July 2020. Which unless there's a major shakeup to how the show is broadcast in the next few years (and I feel they'll be aiming for some consistency right now) they'll have a few months off before they can follow Series 13 as it airs.

Do you plan on seeing The Sarah Jane Adventures? Despite its child-orientation its not dumbed down or anything. In fact it actually has heartbreaking moments too. If so, best to see Series 1 before Doctor Who Series 4 final.

ThatAussieGirl Doctor Who has always had goofy effects and over time they gradually improve, the same goes for Sarah Jane and Torchwood too. These effects also shouldn't get in the way of good episodes and story telling either regardless of whether CGI has aged well or not.

Gwen and Captain Jack is very much like Hermione and Harry Potter (or Jesus and Mary Magdalene) -- a beautiful platonic love story where the guy has some deep and mysterious melancholy fate that distances him from everyone. It is not just a friendship. There is a love there informed by the male-female, yin-yang dynamic. Just not romantic.

They are being really frustrating with the whole Face of Boe thing. It was an obvious joke and it was just put there for fun, not some "epic reveal" or some shit. And I can't believe they are taking it so seriously. They start theorizing and shit instead of laughing it off as the gag it is like every normal viewer.
