In English we had to read a speech and we were allowed to play music as a backing and I chose this song to back my reading of John Keats when I have fears that I may cease to be and I nearly cried in front of my class. There's something so compelling about Ianto, it's such a shame we never really got to see much of his character development until the end of season 2 and season 3. He's such a mysterious character, the song fits him perfectly. The fan side of me was distraught when he died, because we eventually saw him come out of his shell and his relationship develop with Captain Jack, and also that he became a valuable asset to the team after the deaths of Owen and Tosh. The analytical side of me says it was the right time for him to die though in a sense, because he show was never really afraid to take risks like that, and it didn't want to be a lovey-dovey show where all the characters survive. I think his death makes me love the character of Ianto even more, because the death of Ianto is partly down to Jack and Jack has to live with that for the rest of his life, and also because of the legacy he left on the Torchwood team (there is going to be no better Coffee boy). I'm not sure Torchwood is ever going to come back to our screens, but part of me really hopes it does. Part of me does feel that the real Torchwood that I loved and enjoyed died when Ianto died as I was not a huge fan of season 4, and the series changed when all these american characters turned up. I don't want to sound like a typical fangirl but I think that if Torchwood was back on our screens it would be brilliant if Ianto were to reappear, because for me his character, his relationship with Jack and his relationship with the rest of the team made it so watchable, especially season 3 which was my favourite season. I have been thinking, what if in a new season Ianto "comes back" as Rose did in Doctor Who with the cracks in time... Maybe the reason we saw him develop a relationship with Jack was because he was thrown back in time while his present self was thrown into the future, leaving years of unexplored Ianto moments to us...

I was so sad when Ianto died because Jack was there, crying over hes dead lovers body and wishing to die. It made me feel as if I was Jack because now I could see that Jack doesn't have a gift, he has a curse to walk for eternity. I imagined loosing someone so close to me and I realized, living forever is the worst thing ever. (sorry if I'm confusing, it's how my brain works though XD)

Caroline Johnson I cried during that part, and realized the same thing, but I also realized that it was the same for Ianto as well, the way he looked into jack eyes crying and begging him to remember him. Falling in love with someone immortal must be terrible because deep down you know you're only a speck of time even if they're your whole life.

Ianto's character was so different, he made the show better in my opinion. I feel like they could've explored his character more as he was so complex, there were a lot of real life issues they could've attempted to tackle with his character but they cut him off too soon. His relationship with Jack, his insecurities with his job, his family background, his life outside of torchwood. I really feel they wasted a perfectly well-rounded character and their reason for doing so is pathetic really, 'It would've become a boring show'. To imply that Ianto was only Jacks admirer is a disgrace. Ianto Jones was a complex, diverse character with so much wasted potential. His character was the opposite of a mary sue, he had downfalls and up comings and in the end, he was more than just a blip in time...

Ianto was supposed to be much darker than he was, more like the "Adam" episode and was not supposed to stay as much as he did, we got lucky he stayed this much

A thousand of thanks for this perfect and very sensitive argue. You said it with few words, but so right ones !... I would add that the audio play do not fits me : you are like earing a dubbling without having the view, you are earing actors talking in front of a microphone, with some sounds they tried to give an ambiance, sometimes ridiculous : the sound of the kiss ini Broken makes me laugh instead of bringing me emotion. Better no sound at all instead of this "family kiss" sound, as if you would kiss a baby or say a goodbye kiss to your sister on the phone. Yet you may guess that in their circumstances, Ianto and Jack's kiss is something a bit different. And since it vould not be very "audible", I vould have prefered nothing instead of this misinterpretation. Maybe the solution for the audio Torchwood would have been to have a sort of "dscriber", an "off voice" telling thiings which can't be heard in their reality ?... Anyway I don't feel like staying with Ianto's character through the audio Torchwood.
