Some people are born to paint. Some people are born to play sport. Tori was born to play the piano.

Tori’s lyrics are very intricate and she uses alot of metaphor in her writing ✍️ even when it sounds obvious , she has a way of expressing herself and the story in the most poignant and beautiful way

I have always seen it as running from the patriarchy. From the beginning panting and running music to the abrupt ending of being caught once again, because even when you see it and start working on it, that conditioning will still trip you up and catch you by surprise. The whole 7th grade thing is that he insulted her(you’re an ugly girl) then a compliment (but I like the way you play). She looks back at that experience in amazement that she thanked him when he insulted her. She says (Can you believe it? I thanked him. sick). As woman we are conditioned to thank them for the compliment, not be insulted by the insult. As both being polite and nice is drilled into us, and also to keep us safe. Let them bleed, let them wash away these precious things: our conditioning.

If you liked this - check out blood roses from her record Boys for Pele or even Professional Widow which was about Courtney Love getting in the way of her love affair with Trent Reznor back in 1995

Once again, you’ve pretty much nailed it, Dave. Just as you identified Benthic Realm as “doom grunge”, you have correctly coined this “art performance rock”. I thought you’d find this interesting and entertaining as being something different, creative and intellectual more than the usual stuff out there. In the 90’s Tori Amos was a creative fireball. I'm not pop or even light rock music guy, but this is not that. This was not lightweight popular fluff. I saw her live many times in the 90’s and it was fascinating as well as entertaining. The hit you’re thinking of was probably “Cornflake Girl” (early 90's). Vocally, it's my understanding that her main influence was Robert Plant. Lyrically, I think you’re close. I think the “precious things” are memories from that time, growing up as a minister’s daughter, that she wants to “let them bleed, let them wash away”. One such memory is her having a crush on a boy who told her she was ugly, but he liked the way she played, “and I died; but I thanked him. Can you believe that? Sick!” Another is a later memory of good looking condescending Christian boys with inflated egos, who she “wants to smash their faces” . (“So you can make me cum, that doesn’t make you Jesus.”) Another is of the mean popular girls “with their 9 inch nails and little fascist panties tucked inside the heart of every nice girl”. By the way, I greatly prefer what you did here, which was not talking over the music, which is much better for the viewer and also you in terms of not missing things, so well done on that point also!

Best video of PT that's also soundboard from this tour (abbreviated Storytellers version was meh), but the 98 light show from an actual show. She she has the last 2 shows of the tour fully filmed. It will be her nest egg I assume. If it's released, it'll be a goldmine for fans of that era. The Tori product I personally look fwd to most.

You're probably thinking of the Professional Widow remix, that went to #1 on the UK pop charts. It's a House vibe and so unlike what she usually does. A catchy beat and lyrics from Tori Amos can spawn a hit, as it turns out. As popular as she is, she was never built for pop audiences. In the US, she was on college and rock stations. The song Crucify from the early 90's is maybe her most famous.

I wish he would have listened through thr stidio version. This is more improve; a song she had performed hundreds of times by this point that she needed to switch things up. I have seldom heard a live performance that has ever sounded good upon being recorded

I understand & I get the why. I don't care for Rap, so there for my knowledge is limited regarding that genre. Here a little info I wanted to share with you. Out of 16 albums, 10 of Tori's albums have charted in the UK and the US. She is popular/famous in the US, but she is more so abroad. Although she is in American artist, she resides in Cornwall, England.
