Just a few notes for you, the third verse and chorus are flipped, they are meant to be from Tori back to her father. Hair is grey and the fires are burning, he is older now, dreams on the shelf represent sacrifices he(and her mother) have made so Tori can fulfill her dreams, and she asks him, when you gonna love you as much as I do. All the white horses, representing potential, have gone ahead, which for Tori, at 29 in this performance, is kind of true. Her first foray into music was a pop synth band called Y Kan't Tori Read in the late 80s, which was a dismal failure, the band broke up before the record was completed, session musicians had to be brought in to finish it. Atlantic Records gave her this last chance to prove herself, they gave her full creative control (kind of, but that's another story), sink or swim, or enough rope to hang herself with, at this stage it's not a sure thing, not by any means. Luckily, Tori's solo debut album, Little Earthquakes is a masterpiece, and really connects with people, she gets a huge, fervent following almost overnight. Back to this performance, her parents are in the audience for this one, at the end, when she says "never change", you can see her turn and focus on them and stay there for a few moments. All of this tells you just why this was such an emotional performance from her.

I keep going down rabbit holes of people reacting to Tori, especially the first time listening. She is absolutely amazing, the piano is like an extension of herself. If you wanna check out some other good songs of hers(and ones that not many other folks have reacted to lol), some of my favorites are Father Lucifer, Icicle, Cloud on My Tongue, Mother, and her cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit. Also anything with a live band backing her for a change up. I've been into her music since about 2006 or so and seen her live a handful of times, most recently summer of 2023 at Red Rocks in Colorado and it was absolutely magical. She is so captivating and has such an impressive range. Thank you for making this video, good stuff 😀

Tori Amos could learned to play piano around age two before she could really walk. She could play music at that age by hearing it by ear. Age two yes. Admitted to the Peabody school of music at age five and kicked out at age eleven for music insubordination! She wanted to play Rock N Roll on piano insiead of playing classical music. Welcome to the Journey. Start with her first official debut from which this song is from, Little Earthquakes! Tori doesn't just write music. She's a true poet. You aint heard nothing yet my friend. Cheers!

@@SaeedReacts. Hey, that was fast. I suggest to read up on the background of this song as it might be necessary to fully grasp its meaning. Also, any more Dire Straits in the pipeline? Next should be "Tunnel of Love". Also, Bruce Hornsby is a great artist to react to. He co-wrote "End o the Innocence" with and for Don Henley and performs it in a piano-licious rollercoaster ride together with "Song A" and "Sun bear theme". It is 11 minutes long, but absolutely worth it. Tata

@@lesterine77 It should, shouldn't it? But I think you'd be surprised how many reactors still fumble with the meaning just because they didn't read up on it before. Just like someone who speaks little to no French reacts to Jacques Brel without considering that his lyrics are an essential part of his incredible artistry. I don't think Saeed would have a particular problem with it, though, you are right.

Every so often, I search for reactions specifically for this song and this performance, because that’s how spectacular I think it is. This is how I stumbled on your channel - and I can really appreciate how you broke down the lyrical content. Many of Tori’s lyrics border on uncomfortable topics, but they don’t explain the situation entirely - they leave a little bit to the imagination. I definitely recommend checking out some more of her songs. “Silent all these Years” is a great lyrical breakdown; “Crucify” has some musical brilliance, and “Me and a Gun” is just haunting.

Tori was my music for a while. Even now, in my 40s, I'll catch myself suddenly humming Little Earthquakes, Crucify, Caught a Light Sneeze, or one of the many other songs that spoke to me on a deep level from the albums I had. I listened to them while sleeping, doing homework, anytime really. While other artists certainly contributed toward my continuance on earth in years to come, I think the initial "music saved me" credit probably has to go to Tori from me. She's not in rotation in my playlist now, but her music will forever be carved into my memory and her lyrical storytelling is likely the reason I still lean toward lyrics that have real meaning for me.

I often wonder that the lyrics of this song were words her father really did say to her in many respects. Maybe he said this to her only one time and she penned the rest herself. Things do change in life that is for certain. I think she found the love in herself and she put it on display with this beautiful song. Nice reaction by the way. You recently listened to one of my other favorite artists, Prof. Tori is #1, but I love them both for the ways in which they're similar. They can both be silly or serious, write their own songs, & have been into music since childhood. Both simply true artists in their own realm. Another new favorite is Lola Young. She's in her early 20s & already has a pretty big body of work. Again, writes her own music & attended a music school as a child. She plays piano & guitar & doesn't stick to one genre. Her earlier work was more R&B & now she's got more of a dark rock sound. Lots of amazing ballads, too.
