@@quoileternite I hope they are positive! There's just too much negativity in this world, and finding out that there are fantastic things that a father that you had never known, accomplished, could be overwhelming (in a good way) and the best way to picture him. 😔😞😕☺️😁

Or what it will still if they aren't. My dad died on Christmas in '16. This song immediately became more relevant to me and I was already a Tori Amos fan.

I watched as she performed this in 92. My daughter was 5. I lost my daughter in 2016. This song touched something precious. When I play it I feel my daughter and I again caring for each Other. What a special song. The power that music can hold when honesty rules.

This song is hard for me to hear. My Dad suffered a psychotic breakdown .I feel like I lost the man who raised me with love, humor and compassion. It is a strange thing to inwardly mourn the loss of someone who is still alive. For a long time I have sought out relationships trying to find a surrogate father. I have really struggled the last 10 years and I know if my Dad was still in my life, he would have said, "When you gonna make up your mind? When you gonna love you as much as I do?" Wherever you are, Dad- I love you and thank you for everything you did for me as a child and young adult.

A child runs with her Father through the drifts of snow outside. Her gloves are too big but she doesn’t feel cold when she’s with him. She runs ahead but trips over a covered branch, falling on her face. She starts to cry. Her Father tells her she’ll have to get up on her own. He doesn’t know how many more winters he can have with her. She gets up and sees that he has tears in his eyes. She doesn’t understand his words; he’ll always be with her, won’t he? Years pass The child turns into a teenager. She meets boys, she goes to middle school, then to high school. But every day when she comes home her family is there. Over winter break they skate together on the iced over lakes and have snowball fights. They build a snowman in a clearing and try to make it taller than it was before. Every year it gets shorter. Her father becomes more and more pale and his hands start shaking. Then one year he is too weak to come out in the cold. She can’t finish the snowman. As the sun comes out she watches it melt into a puddle at her feet. She skates onto the ice, the freezing wind making her cold for the first time. She stares into the deep layers of ice wishing she could find a cure, anything. But all she sees is her own teary reflection. She knows the ice is getting thin. She skates back towards the house, hopping out of her skates just as he had taught her. She sees her mother standing outside, waiting for her. Tears are streaming down her face. The skates drop from her hands. She runs into the house. A doctor is in the room. He won’t meet her eyes. She runs to her father’s side, grabbing his hand. After a moment his hands curl around hers. They’re so cold. “When you gonna make up your mind?” He says. His voice is so soft she can hardly hear him. “When you gonna love you as much as I do?” The song he always sang to her. Her vision blurs and she chokes out, “all the white horses are still in bed” “You know that I’ll always want you near,” “You say that things change, my-” Her voice breaks on the last word. His eyes close. She sits remembering in a rocking chair by the fire. Pictures sit on the shelf; her family, her dreams. She thinks of her father and smiles. It is a happy memory. He would be proud of her. She stares out into the cold winter outside. She’s too old to go out but she enjoys watching it from the inside. She whispers into the night, “never change.”

Haven't listen to this song in over 20 years, and it made me cry harder now then it did back then. My father asked me (and still does) why I don't value myself. Love myself. Know that I am worth it......and I still haven't figured it out.

I never had a father figure but I remember one of my moms boyfriends gave me a Tori Amos cassette when I was maybe 4 or 5 and this song was the one that I found and played over and over again. Eventually I wore out the cassette and later, grew up. But I always come back to this song every now and then and play it on repeat, just thinking about laying on the floor in my bedroom as a child and pretending to hear it for the first time.

The way she plays piano. Such a delicate touch, so beautiful. You just know that has to be a woman at the keys. There's many good men pianists, for sure, but none have that delicate touch of Tori. Then that haunting, beautiful voice starts to sing, and it's like nothing else......

APC was my gateway, first to TOOL, and then to everything else worth listening to...) Anyway. My sister learned to play this song for my dad. She wanted him to see her love for him in the form of this song because she was too proud to show her love and thanks in the open air. To her, such love was relegated to the pervert and the exhibitionist. My father had already felt betrayed by her constant disrespect and criticism and he couldn’t even hear the love. She couldn’t see his love either. Two stubborn fools who needed each other and refused love because it didn’t suit them perfectly in the form of their expression. If you’re reading this, try not to do that.

I think it's pretty obvious what she is conveying, pertaining to her personal life, as much of her music did. A story between a father and daughter at different stages in her life. The natural evolution of his daughter from little girl to ushering in womanhood, that he has to let go of, and maybe even his death. She is experiencing the same sorrow herself for the time she will never have with her dad. They are talking to each other about this, but probably only one in Tori's mind.
