Charismatic Tori is an outstanding, five star mother & wife. So fun to hear Tori/Jim podcast. We watched every beautiful video you’ve made together and applaud her patience. It’s beautiful cinematography and it soothes & calms us, but with two kids, a dog, and a utube hubby whose DNA has Scottish adventurer, it comes at a cost. That rain episode looked like misery and storm of the century winds and we felt for you & then where H drops the water purifier off canoe on purpose as his rocks, was the moment I’d want to clock him. 😮 Plus, kudos, that’s a-lot of stuff you two haul, set up and portage. You must have learned how to compartmentalize & you ARE strong and definitely have our respect. Tori breezes thru it all due to her smart, calm thinking abilities. Love the hubby/wife banter. How did you two meet is our big question? Wesley seems like he’s more alert and animated with each passing week and soaking is it all up. ❤ Bravo BAIRD family!

First off...Jim, I am your biggest fan. Jim, thanks for facilitating this interview with Tori who is also an awesome and inspirational woman. I left England with my wife and son in 2004 and settled in BC, Canada. My wife and I have been canoeing together for over 25 years. I have been so privileged to have my wife leave her large family and follow me on a whim to Canada. My wife was born in Jamaica and joined her parents there when she was 10. Over the years we have often commented on the fact that we have hardly ever seen a person of my wife's ethnicity camping, hiking or canoeing. We had to stay strong as a couple when we decided to build a log house recently, it is in a forest, 3500 feet altitude. There are bears, cougars, bobcats and occasionaly Wolves up here. We lived in a travel trailer for 3 years using a 'porta potty' , melting snow to wash, cook with and drink. It got down below -36 a few times. My wife is 4'11 and very strong, physically and mentally, I am so proud of her. This last summer I suggested it was time to move onto solo paddling and I will buy a solo canoe this spring. My wife, Shirley, looks forward to take the next step to raise her confidence solo paddling. So, Tori, I think what you are doing by and filming your adventures with your lovely boys is a wonderful thing and what you do is of incalculable value to women and moreso women of colour. Like you and Jim, we work side by side on our laptops, together, most days my wife is a businesswoman and I am VP of the company. Shirley, in her spare time, is a motivational speaker, student pianist and aspiring writer. I wish you both a lifetime of great adventures, beautiful family memories and good health🛶🍻

What an amazing and well written comment. It made me borderline emotional. I have read several of your comments in the past and I am honoured that you are still watching and listening. Your wife sounds like an amazing person and your lifestyle sounds awesome too. Congrats on building that mountain home! Sounds spectacular.

Thanks Jim, you are a gentleman of good calibre...tough, yet not afraid to show your feelings. I do believe that us men who immerse ourselves in the beauty of Mother Nature, and who find peace, solace and healing in it need to encourage men of all ages who may be struggling with their mental and emotional wellbeing to participate in the great outdoors at whatever level they can. A few years ago there was a bit of a buzz amongst KZbin Bushcraft Channels, facilitated by a guy in the UK, to put out a video called 'Show us Your Steak'...a discussion on mens mental health. I put out a vid and have been thinking of doing it again during Mens Health Week. Keep Up thje Good Work and pass our regards onto Tori.@@JimBairdAdventurer

Can I be honest right quick?! I’m obsessed with you Tori!!! I very much live vicariously thru you. I’m from Duluth, MN (please come visit!!) and I’m no stranger to the outdoors and all of the fun that comes with the seasons and the wild and all the gifts that the creator has to offer us. Our sons are the same age (Hudson & my Quartz) and what I love the most is watching you tackle the outdoors with your boys. My son is non-verbal, has level 3 ASD yet he absolutely positively LOVES all things outdoors. Watching you & Jim go on these adventures with Wesley has truly truly inspired me and has shown me that it’s safe outside and that Mother Nature is sooo healing and educational even for our children. Don’t ever give up Tori! You’re an inspiration to more mothers, woman, BIPOC persons than you can ever imagine 🫶🏽 Sending soooo much love to your home from mine 🤎

PS we put a cow bell on Quartz when we’re outside so we always know where he’s at. (He’s non verbal and will not respond to his name) just a tip for you if/when Wesley star’s walking and even put on Huddy prior to his solo adventures 😉🙃

Thanks so much to both Tori and Jim for creating this episode! I relate SO much to what Tori was saying about society as a whole thinking women can’t or shouldn’t be able to canoe trip without a man. I often go back country canoe tripping in all woman groups and we have also been asked multiple times if we need help carrying the canoe by men. I know they are likely just trying to be nice but I can almost guarantee they wouldn’t have asked a group that included men and that’s frustrating! I would also like to echo some of what Tori said and recognize all the men who don’t assume we are weak and incapable. I appreciate being given the space to learn new skills and be strong and empowered women in a male dominated activity. Jim and my own husband are both great examples of men who support and empower women in the outdoors. Thank you Tori for being a voice for strong women who love to do hard things and also for empowering women who don’t think they can do it! The more we can normalize this, the better we will be as a society. You are amazing!

Both of you are surely rugged and capable but YES when you intoduce your children it is definitely a challenge to be calm and moreso comfortable with what you might do without them in a similar setting. If it helps, I think any mother feels overly concerned even if it weren't in a wild setting but simply leaving the children with a new babysitter for the evening. Last year while guiding a trip, a couple of new-to-camping lads were two-handing their canoe up the portage trail. I asked if they wanted to know how to portage it properly, and they said yes. When I threw the canoe up onto my head - like I've done hundreds of times - I fell right onto my ass, getting trapped under the canoe. It went from me teaching them to me getting completely schooled. Anyway, loved this episode, and as someone who doesn't watch videos, I'm really loving the podcast format!

As a teenager, I would look at the Canadian Tire magazine (rather then the Sears catalogue) to drool over tents and gear. I get exactly what you are saying Tori in regard to the stress and anxiety. I’m a mother to two children with disabilities and when we go away, particularly camping paddling, I am always problem solving the next thing that hasn’t even happened yet. I’m always keeping tract of everyone and everything. On a recent camping trip that I missed out on due to our daughter testing positive to Covid. My husband and our youngest son went together, he ended up phoning me on the first night to say how much he took for granted everything that I do and manage on our trips that he hadn’t even realised until he had to do it all and it was just him and our 12yr old son, I stayed at home with our two other children who need extra support ❤
