Alot of awards are awarded to artist, some totally deserving(Esperanza Spalding, Bon Iver, Adele, Alicia Keys to name a few) because they have positive cultural impact on their target market in this case Meghan Trainor first single was to promote positive healthy body image, about embracing yourself. Whereas some wasn't even worth nominating but they are because of the hype that surrounded them. Also, they award artist that they think will have potential in years to come (Carrie Underwood, Maroon 5, Christina Aguilera & Mariah Carey). All these artists are becoming legends or are already legends in their own rights. Awarding Meghan Trainor Best New Artists doesn't mean Tori is any less deserving or less talented.
