Most people don't realize Tornado Attack was the first intercept vehicle ever made, as well as Steve being the first one to intercept a tornado. I forecasted for him in 2011. So glad to see this video.

@@xx_ironman77_xx1 Did you fall asleep before the beginning of the vidya? The concept was in about '94 and finished in '98! No one copied the TIV/TIV2. The TIV team copied the vehicle that was completed in '98 if ANYTHING. Don't assume people copy things. They only get inspiration!

So I looked into it and the TA-1 (Tornado Attack) was in fact made before the tiv 1, The tiv 1 was finished in 2002 but was completed after the TA-1, The TA-1 wasn't well known until 2004 when he was named the first person to intentionally drive into a tornado with an interceptor.​@@xx_ironman77_xx1

Ah the ole tornado attack, fun fact in the winter of 2021 and early months of 2022 I help maintenance this amongst all of his other race cars, I was his mechanic/driver for certain things. This thing in person is absolutely incredible I've never seen so many knobs and switches in my life. Steve was a cool guy to get to know

@@Reluctant15 he and I have parted ways, but what I can tell you from the time I was there in fact, it is still around and he still uses it mainly for promo stuff for his storm chasing companies, it's absolutely a work of art and probably one of the most complex things I've ever sat in and worked on. It's not been updated with modern technology yet because he hasn't figured out if he is going to build something new or restore what needs to be fixed on the Tornado attack, it was talked about but I wasn't there to work on his storm chasing stuff so other than that I don't know what he decided between he and his business partner. I will say in person it's a lot different looking, it's hard to tell in the old videos not being hd, it has similarities to a cybertruck in certain areas, the chassis is completely chromoly its insane what the cost was to build it and to keep maintaining it as more of a show vehicle

I feel like a Bulletproof 2500 Suburban with some sort of fence post auger contraption as a deployable anchor point is more or less your only option when it comes to any Tornado that is bigger, like an F3,4 or 5

Many of us became spotters and meteorologists in the 2000s in parallel with the emergence of vehicles like TIV1 (there were two) and Reed's three Dominators, not to mention the still-lingering popularity of the movie Twister and the but it is great to see what should be considered the prototype. Really appreciate this video and hope that Steve is still out there and will maybe surface in a future documentary (this would have been the perfect one for that). At the same time I don't want to see anyone discredit the vast differences in Sean's TIV1 when compared to what Steve had built. Not to mention the scientific instruments Reed added to his Dominators - seeing sensors deployed via a variety of methods (the rocket launchers are just awesome). I don't know to what degree some people were influenced by the Storm Chasers show into liking or disliking some of these guys, but that comes with "reality" TV and trying to create character dynamics and drama (as if chasing the most incredible force of nature isn't enough!). The real reality is that they really did put relentless effort into building and maintaining them and no one should be negative towards the creation of any of these vehicles as they are each an improvement on previous creations and in Sean's case, for filming. Vehicles like these should leave everyone with a great deal of respect for those that have gone forward to put the time and money into making intercepts possible. Oh, and as of 2023 Reed's third Dominator is back on the road after a few years off. Never stop chasing...

The concept of a TIV is something that a lot of people credit to Sean Casey, which is why I really love this little mini documentary. Awesome production quality btw. Keep this up and your channel will blow up

Could possibly give some credit to the movie twister, while you didnt want to be in the vehicle when the tornado rolled it, they still sent one in to help deploy the sensors. Might have been what gave a few people that Idea. From a usability standpoint Steves probably was the most practical on and off road, however had the least about of armor for debris and as it didnt drop all the way down couldnt handle as high of winds before it got lifted. Reed Timmers I would say is sorta a mid ground, good onroad performance and reliability, stable at higher wind loads, and slightly better armor (however less roll over protection - no roll cage) Sean Casey has basically the Tank, it probably is the heaviest, strongest, and safest as far as debris and wind loads. It also looks like TIV2 can handle decent off road. However it was known to not be as reliable and they always had problems with the TIVS.

@@jjjacer The reason for the TIVs not being as reliable is that they are based on standard road going vehicles, the reason why Tornado Attack was so successful was because it was made for one of the toughest races on earth the Baja 1000.

I think most DO credit Sean, partly because the first TIV was what was brought to the masses via the Storm Chasers show, and it was used A LOT. It was the first time that viewers across the globe had seen anything like it. The fact that only one preceded TIV 1 (to our knowledge), and wasn't probably known outside the close chasing community, means there are still a ton of people that will think of TIV 1 as the first real intercept vehicle. So with that I definitely agree - I'm glad this documentary came out and I hope it helps educate, while not discrediting what Sean did at all (the TIV after all is so much more of what people would expect one of these things to look like and feel safe in, plus it doesn't have the look or feel of something Billy Joe Bob built in his backwoods racing garage lol). But it's great to finally see more about the original, which makes us appreciate all the differences in the TIVs and Dominators, from materials used to specific features designed to support filmmaking and research, respectively. Also agree that channel has the potential to become one of the premier sources for weather documentaries given the team involved. Happy to see credit for all of the footage especially with so much stolen footage across social media that chasers constantly deal with. Cheers and never stop chasing...

This was very interesting but...Steve Green was not a NASCAR driver. The racing-reference website has complete results for all of NASCAR's top-level and regional racing series. A search for Steve Green, Steven Green, or Stephen Green returns no results. That means he never raced in any top-level NASCAR series or any regional NASCAR series. That doesn't mean he wasn't a racing driver. He may well have raced in races that weren't sanctioned by NASCAR, or maybe in local level races that did have NASCAR sanctioning. However, when someone is referred to as a "NASCAR driver" most people assume they could turn on the TV and see that "NASCAR driver" racing in a top-level NASCAR race. You can watch every NASCAR race that has ever been televised and you will never find one that Steve Green competed in. It's probable that the media reporting on this story heard he was a racing driver and just misconstrued that to say he was a NASCAR driver. You can't be a NASCAR driver without also being a racing driver, but you can be a racing driver without being a NASCAR driver.

I just bought a '92 Escort previously owned by him, last used at the Hangover Race at Sandusky Speedway about 10 years ago. He sold it through a friend who had been storing it for him. I was told he was selling the car to put money into a late model. The seller told me he had been a NASCAR driver, so I have been looking for records of him but at this point I'm guessing he has always been a local short track guy. Likely technically correct to call him a NASCAR driver as they do sanction a lot of local paved late model series... but I went down the same rabbit hole you did looking for more info.

@@VojaxRacing if it's the same florescent yellow escort I'm thinking of I helped work on this car when I worked on his legacy cars, we were gonna do something with them and then things came up financially and behind the scenes and it didn't work out, but that late model was beautiful. The escort was a riot to drive through the neighborhood behind the shop following the legacy cars to make sure they didn't come apart, anyway good luck and I hope it serves you well, it did us in the short time we had it

It is unreasonably difficult to find information on Steve Green. He seems pretty well known, maybe he has a Wikipedia page? Not that I can find. He was a NASCAR driver, maybe he's on Racing Reference? There is one Steve Green, a crew chief for three races in the K&N Series in 2016, but no drivers. This man is mentioned only in news articles and KZbin videos, nothing else.

I remember when Sean Casey threw words at Reed Timmer for "copying" his TIV when I remembered that Steve Green was the OG. I met him when he was showing off the TIV2 and told him he was copying Steve Green which pissed him off something royal. It made me smile to see a film maker being caught in hypocrisy!

Huge problem with your attitude towards trying to discredit what Sean accomplished. Nowhere in your comment are you respectful or appreciative of what he built (EITHER TIV for that matter). As for "words being thrown" you must remember the reality TV aspect of shows like Storm Chasers - reality TV producers can't fake tornadoes, but they add dynamic character relationships and drama that wouldn't normally exist. Ask me how i know.... ALL reality TV is edited and directed to create an interesting show. Sean IS protective of his creation and loves to poke at Reed (which he did during his IMAX screenings) but there is no competition here. Whatever your problem is in trying to lessen the level of respect that all of these intercept vehicle builders have earned, you MUST correct it.

The first tornado intercept was in 2011? According to the information on the TIV1 sean casey first intercepted a tornado in 2005, but it seems that steve first built his tornado intercept truck in the mid 90s

Tornado Attack was probably the only purpose built Tornado intercept vehicle ever built. TIV and Dominator are no where near as bespoke as TA. Such a cool vehicle.

A weighted down body armor suit? Seriously? That's insane. First off, there's no way to have it weighted down enough to be effective. And if it is, then it can no longer be referred to as a suit that one can be mobile in. And apparently it's a common misunderstanding that so many have about the human body. There can be no such armor. Unless we invent a force field type apparatus, that is able to remain in one place despite what is thrown against it. And I'm pretty sure we are no where near close to inventing such a thing. It's the way that our bodies are made that makes it impossible for such an armor suit to ever be effective. Sure, armor can protect the vast majority of our bodies. All except one part. Which happens to be the most important part. Our brains. Our brain and spinal chord float in a fluid called cerebrospinal fluid. It allows a small space for the brain to swell if its injured. But it does have a draw back. In the case that you're violently struck or thrown, it causes your brain to be essentially thrown against the cranium. Causing a head injury. The severity depends on how violent the action was. So as long as our bodies are able to be moved very quickly, our brains are susceptible to injury. This is why things like vehicle airbags and thick armor don't always protect you from serious injury.

That's a baby. You get inside a F5 you ain't coming out. I live in tornado alley. An f5 erases EVERYTHING but concrete slabs. You will not come out the way you think you will. Those storms are killers. These little Midwest tornados are destructive, but are very small compared.

I have yet to find any evidence that says it's still around, So my best guess is that it was stripped for its roll cage and engine. TA-1 never really got a following and remained sort of in the shadows of the storm chasing world. and at the time, it was perceived as more of a novelty. If Steve got picked up by Discovery or NatGeo than maybe we would still have it around, but I don't think it made much of an impact for Steve to warrant keeping it.

I grew up in Wichita falls TX. Stared the 79 terrible Tues event in the face and didn't realize how close it was till i saw a documentary a few yeara ago..I saw on film what I saw at age of 5. we had just sit down to supper then sirens blasted. I went out back door as family went out front. I saw almost nothing but black cloud. dad ran out and guided me across street to cellar where I and sister stood in waist deep water till we got the all clear from the men folk that stayed above in it. Dad was one. He was always outside watching storms and bbq. A bank 3 blocks away only vault with the people was left. My first freinds family was just 2 blocks from there at k mart in the car. Skipped over them blowing glass all over them touched down other side of street then the true destruction began. I've witnessed the beauty, great power, awesome and terrible destruction, and most of all. The coming together of communities in a time of terrible adversity. Now I do as dad used to do when he was more healthy and basically protect through action, a watchful eye, and willingness to sacrifice oneself for the life and safety of others.

Honestly I don't know why people don't build tornado interceptors based of his design. It seems the most logical to me, low to the ground and aerodynamic. For the first person to build an intercept car his design in my opinion was better than both TIV 1 and Dominator 1, had someone continued upgrading his design with spikes and such it could probably rival even modern day tornado interceptors like TIV 2.

Well with building tornado intercept vehicles, you have to follow state laws in the US which is why we saw limited use of Dorthy the plus side of the attack vehicle was that it didn’t need to be inspected and have license plates bottom side is it had to be hauled with a trailer everywhere,

Tornados are absolutely terrifying Seeing that column touch down and then the instant debris field just launch into the air manifesting as a giant black cloud flung into a swirling donut 100 ‘ deep and 4 times as wide is absolutely awe inspiring. The raw power is nearly unimaginable. Beautiful

Sean Casey wasn’t inspired buy this vehicle he was inspired buy Star Wars and always being annoyed but being locked out of rental cars etc and nobody wanting to let him rent there cars tbh this an one trick pony it isn’t street legal it can only drive on dirt roads or grass that’s about it and it needs to be towed everywhere it is basically an tornado intercept go kart . Sean built tornado intercept vehicle in his garage based of an 1997 ford f350 he built and designed everything the roll cage the amor and the 360° rotating turret all buy him self hp. Steve was an race car driver he had an idea what he was doing on the other hand Sean was an flim marker/chaser he didn’t know anything about making roll cages or aerodynamics yet with $219,000 less he built an good all arounder street legal albe to drive around with an entire team ,has better amor , better design and can chase on any road and doesn’t have to deploy to intercept tornadoes this was the true first intercept vehicle and this vehicle also tiv 2 inspired reed Timmer to build srv dominator,and srv dominator 2,3 and none of those vehicles are one trick pony’s 🤷🏽‍♂️

I think tornado attack motivated the doms, reed has worked with him and Dom looks similar to tornado attack, the only reason he didn't build it until 2009 was he didn't have money for it until discovery came
