Okay, I know Tornado's fight with Razor was controversial with it's rather large support beams to hold that spinner, but you can't deny that fight was absolutely awesome. The champion was beaten and bashed for a lot of the battle, the beams technically defending its innards, Dead Metal ripping pieces out of Razor's wings, and Razor desperately hoisting the Tornado off the ground and then... That despair when the beams are observed to be the first APD. This battle actually has me thrilled.

Let be honest, if you'd been trashed by Razer on previous occasions you'd put something in place to stop it getting at you if it was legal. As a 12 year old at the time though I was raging at it!

Tornado was one of my favourites. Its just relentless. Pretty fast, good traction, invertible and some very good driving to boot. Especially loved that fight with Hypnodisc. It just didn't give it a chance to spin up that disc, so nullified it main weapon. Just keeps the pressure on, constantly ramming, getting underneath and shoving it around the arena and slamming it into the walls and house robots. Far more aggressive driving! Just a great combination.

As much as I wasn't a fan of tornado's weapon to win the final match, they had some really impressive fights and some excellent driving. The match vs Hypno disc always sticks out because of how they were able to neutralise Hypno disc so easily and barely taking any damage from it's weapon. Also was such a good fight vs Dominator which could have gone so wrong had they landed just a few inches to the right off Matilda's hit!

A lot hated Tornado but I thought it was quite inventive with the interchangeable weapons model, it was always fun to watch in its fights as well esp against Storm 2 in the semis in series 7. I hated that metal cage in the final in series 6 though and I would have demanded they remove it if I was a judge. I didn't think they needed to use that to win against Razor because they'd learned a lot from their losses against them imo.

Tornado winning led to the downfall of Robot Wars because the producers then messed about with the rules for Series 7 to stop another "boring box" (Their words not mine) winning again.

I know people hated the cage, but they followed the rules, they just used it to their advantage. The best robot will win and an adaptable one is one of the scariest

Looking back at the final fight and hearing the rules that allowed it to go through, Tornado's frame wasn't cheating in anyway. While we can all whine about the logistics of it, the rules state that: 1. They registered it in advance 2. Razer was told about it as well and they had an extender on their claw 3. The robot technically wasn't pitted because only 2 of the 4 wheels were suspended over the pit. 4. it didn't exceed the then robot length limit of 2 metres by 1.4 metres. As a child Tornado winning was a heartbreak, I was angry like the rest of them but they weren't cheating

There are two possibles in the fight with Anarchy. Either the spike went through the plastic shield on the inside and into the electronics causing damage, or Tornado went up at an angle with the spike not hitting anything causing no damage. When its about who controls the battle field and who causes damage, I'd say it should go to the bot who is sticking to the same game plan the whole match and isn't damaged by the opponent who tries several ideas.

I think that cage stopping tornado from going down shouldnt be allowed, if all 4 wheels are over the pit, you are in it.

Yeah it was pure cheating that and they know it, funny because they didn't need to do it they had a top robot anyway. But the captain didn't care that he'd cheated 🤣 he thought it was being crafty at worst but intelligent, his mates didn't think that though they looked a bit embarrassed.

It was within the rules, not 1 rule was broken. They used their creativity to come up with a solution to a problem. They'd been beaten by Razor in previous Wars, so they needed some out of the box thinking or they'd probably get beaten again. This kind of thing happens in Motorsport all the time, clever interpretation of the rules is a perfectly viable tactic.

Honestly, I'm not a fan of razor or tornado, but I'm very sorry that he didn't fall into the pit in the fight with Dominator 2, I think that Dominator 2 was awarded to go to the finals more than Tornado

I've always found tornado quite boring. The driving is excellent but it's frankly just a pusher. None of the interchangeables actually did much. Also, yeah they cheated with that pit proof frame.

It's not boring,, styles is what it's all about,, boring was the reboot which just became a flywheel fest. Flippers vs axes vs discs vs pushers was it was all about.

Tornado cheated; made itself too wide to be pitted. Pitting is usually an automatic out.

It was within the size limit, they would have easily been counted out but Razer still had ahold of them. It was a gamble Tornado took and it paid off. A genius gamble. If Razer had let go of them and let them suspend over the pit to where they couldn't move, they would have been counted out and their idea would have back fired. They played by the rules and won. Genius. Didn't cheat in the least.

only issue is that the size limit was bigger than the pit. Even if they had a frame that was small enough to get pitted it still would have had razer barely scratching the sides of tornado. A tyre shot was more luck than anything in any of razers kills so its not like a smaller frame would have meant tornado lose by default. It would still be the epic shove fest that it was BUT the potential garanteed kill option would still exist. not that it matters the fight was like a decade ago now? i cant even remember lol

Are you slow? It was literally explained during this video that the dimensions were allowed by the rules, both by Andrew Marchant and judge Noel Sharkey, be gracious in defeat rather than acting like a spoilt kid who didn't get their way.

@@DouglasP_ the judges inspected tornado before they used the cage and found that it conformed to the rules at the time. After series 6 the rules regarding defensive additions to robots were changed and the cage was banned.
