I think the round clutch plate that you put on in front of the blade and the blade guard actually goes in first than the blade adapter, blade, blade guard. At least thats how it goes on every other toro clutch driven mower ive ever seen.

If you don’t know where your muffler is, rule of thumb is to always tilt your mower with the air filter UP.

Don't take that advice when working on older Honda mowers with the G series flathead engines, same goes for mowers powered by Tecumseh engines as the muffler is on the same side as the carburettor.

Like your video. I am researching this mower now. Just got one going by cleaning the three holes in the jet that holds the bowl on and cleaning the bowl as a preliminary check. Could you tell me why some engines( mini bike and reel mower) run very good until you try to use them to cut grass or ride? The mini bike run very good last time I messed with it. I could lean it on the kick stand snd rev the engine just fine, but it would pull itself when lowered. The engine would bog down. I don’t think it is the clutch. The reel mower acted basically the same way. Governor? I don’t think I have check compression on either yet.

Just wanted to say I bought my first lawn boy today just because of your channel. It’s a 10304 with the v series engine. I was wondering where you buy your lawn-boy parts from. I am about your age and we both seem to love old machines and fixing stuff. I’ve always loved mowing my own lawn and I own a 1978 Chevrolet C20 so I’m into cars as well. But I just wanted to say I think your channel is awesome.

This might be the nicest comment I've ever gotten. Thank you! I'm glad my tinkering has inspired someone else, that's really cool. I buy most of my LawnBoy parts on eBay and PartsTree.com. Sounds to me like the carburetor is dirty, or some other engine issue. That's usually why they stall out when you engage the blade.

Awesome video. I'm going to pickup a new toro with the blade stop soon. I was just trying to figure out if its possible to operate the self propelled drive wheels while the blade is stopped and obviously engine running. From your video it looks like it can be as the v belt for the transmission is attached deeper inside the mower than the blade belt. Am I correct on this? Thanks.
@Rustbelt_Research4 жыл бұрын
Yes! You can operate the drive while the blade is disengaged. Very handy for moving the mower from place to place.

@@SpeedStik I would say look at what Honda has to offer first, it has superior transaxles and an actual blade clutch in its HRN, HRX and HRC216HYA machines. Toros tend to break down.
@SpeedStik2 жыл бұрын
@@WJCTechyman This was almost two years ago and I ended up going with the Toro after checking out the Honda's in person. I liked the Honda except for the "tires" on the wheels. It was more of a hard plastic. My yard has so many steep slopes that my old AWD Husqvarna couldn't drive straight and was a nightmare. The toro has a really nice rubber tire on the wheels still. My toro drives straight on these slopes no matter which angle which is great. Also I got lucky that I saved a couple hundred bucks on it as a lawn and garden shop was shutting down and priced to sell everything.

You wouldn't have this problem if you invest in a Honda. Toro mowers were sub-par in this regard. I've never understood why it designed a mower with belts--worst thing for a commercial mower like this, you said it was ingenious, I say, it was stupid. The belt system will not hold up to comercial use and will need to be replaced probably twice the mowing season. Also, you can get generic belts that fit, I had a mower similar to this, so I should know. Second serious problem is the mickey mouse brake these things use. Did you notice how much braking material was left on this machine? Probably another two years and you have to replace the potentially expensive pivot assembly. In an actual clutch like those seen on both Honda and electric blade stop systems on premium riding mowers the braking surface is hundreds of times larger area-wise compared to that Toro. Especially since other mower brands used an actual clutch like Honda, mentioned before and older John Deere mowers. Honda also has a hydrostatic trasmission on its upper models while Toro uses belt slip in the personal pace system.
@LS1007 Жыл бұрын
That’s not a commercial mower. My Toro is 10 years old with the original belt. 🤷🏻♂️
