We bought the same mower back in 1991ish for my parents as a gift that had the new Briggs/Toro engine to replace Suzuki engine. My brother is still using the mower today. Kudos to Briggs/Toro for designing a good engine. A couple of years ago the carb fell off from machine-while it was running! I guess the gasket dried out after 30 years and bolts lost preload.

Great Video, Excellent Warranty, Good Looking Mower, Great Features with The Greaseable Rear Wheels, Easy Stow Feature, Personal Speed Control Is Great For Older People who Cannot Keep Up With it, Considering That The Grass Was Wet It Cut Exceptionally well, Older Mowers Would Clog With Wet Grass. The Mower Didn't Struggle In The Longer Grass From What I Could Hear. A Lot Of Push Mowers You Would Have To Lift The Front wheels and Cut It Down A Bit, But That BEAUTY Went straight Through It No Problems. Very Strong Engine For 159cc. Just purchased this mower from Home Depot. It cost $599....Mowed the lawn and it works for me. I like being able to stand it up to access the blade(s). The wash out system is weak (as demonstrated) but hitting it with the hose is easy. I had the Toro with the steel deck and it corroded through in several places so I use Fiberglass cloth and West System Epoxy to repair the holes. The mower still works fine and it is seven years old. This is why I purchased another Toro machine, this time with an Aluminum deck...

All the mower shops should get together and not stock B&S cos with a tiny bit of care and maintenance the mower engines last for nearly ever and that stops them selling new mowers. Except my friend , he bought a new 4 stroke B&S Rotary mower, put the petrol in and started to mow 20 minutes later he had ceased it cos there was no oil in it. So he got another new B&S rotary mower, and he then got me cos it wouldn't go. He had filled it up to nearly the top of the filler hole with oil. To be on the safe side this time I suppose. No worries drained out a pint or two of oil till it was at the right level on the dipstick ( the extra oil now been my perk) and left it handle weighted down to the ground cylinder up position , while we had a cup of tea. Then checked the oil level with the screw in dip stick again and that you could turn over the mower with the pull starter easily. Washed the plug in petrol . Started it , It made a lot of smoke for about two minutes and was fine after that. You have to blame the shop that sold it, my friend just didn't know. That was a few years ago.

I have one of these that's about 10 years old with a Briggs engine, self propelled and I absolutely love it. I love the Personal Pace feature the best. It's so much easier than Honda's paddles which are hard to hold steady on uneven ground. I love the adjustable folding handle, something that Honda doesn't even have. I love how quiet it is, the good mulching job it does, and the way it continues to start easily with 1, 2 or 3 pulls even after 10 years. I also love that it has enough horsepower to easily mulch my lawn. I had a Honda before this that did not have enough power to mulch and it was constantly plugging up under the deck. I've done all the maintenance myself on this and never had it in the shop. I have never used the water pressure cleanout, though. I am definitely going to buy another one of these when this one shoots craps, but not sure which engine to buy now. This Briggs has been surprisingly good and easy to start and very dependable. Thanks for the review. Love what you do.

I bet the mower engine is made by Loncin (Chinese engine). Probably why Toro isn't telling who manufactures engine. But, I've heard Loncin is pretty good. Even found on some Commercial mower brands. They are kind of the equivalent of Honda and Kawasaki (Japan) for Chinese market, they make Motor bikes also. I still would prefer an American brand engine company like Briggs and Stratton, Even though I bet the newer style Briggs with plastic carbs are probably Chinese made. Honda is probably the only mower engine made in USA.

Taryl Fixes All. The Toro Super Recycler with the black just doesn’t seem right after all of the Toro products being painted red for all these years . With the Toro recycler (20339) high wheeled mower that my sister purchased; She applied a very heavy coating of WD-40 in which there are virtually no grass clippings that stick to the mower deck or mower blade when she cleans the mower after mowing her lawn. From my experience, I believe that the Super Recycler that was featured in the video would have not had nearly as much grass buildup had WD-40 been applied beforehand. The wash out port is okay, But still not as good as flipping the mower in Stow position where you can really give a good cleaning. My sisters Toro has the similar sized Briggs & Stratton Engine which has performed as it should for general cutting and for thicker taller grass in which I have never really seen the engine bog down. So far, The engine has not used any oil and the only smoke that I have observed would be a very slight puff of smoke when starting for the first time. The engine oil itself is still very clean just like day #1 when the Toro was unboxed. Some days ago, I contacted Toro to make a product suggestion regarding swiveling front caster wheels for the High Wheeled Toro mowers due to the fact that where my sister lives has lots of turns due to chain link fences. For us men, We don’t struggle too much with the weight of the mower; But my sister had a previous surgery and can’t pick up on the heavy mower like she once could. To be very frank, I was very disappointed with Toro’s response to my suggestion. Toro manufactured many great products over the years, But I informed Toro that they will never have me for a customer ever again. Sorry for the rant guys, For the last 30ish years I have worked on right of way mowing equipment of any type that you could imagine. Thanks for all of your great videos Taryl & Company. Hey I served up your Breakfast,Lunch & Dinner plus coffee breaks from Central Kentucky today.

Interesting comments. I have several push mowers and have painted the underside with used engine oil, WD-40, Rust-Oleum, and other chemicals and they all last only 1 or 2 mows. If I have to look under the deck every time I mow I might as well set it to one side (muffler side down) and hit it with a hose. Agree...I have never used the hose port. (Unscrew the nozzle, screw the hose on the port, turn on the water, start the mower, stop the mower, turn off the water, unscrew the hose, screw the nozzle back on. TOO MUCH WORK). There might be commercial mowers available with front swivel wheels and to be frank, what are you doing letting your sister with surgery cut the grass.
@TheIronDuke5024 жыл бұрын
David Kupferman Well, I wouldn’t mind helping my sister with her mowing activity, But she loves to do the lawn work with Me not getting in her way. So, I do all of the service work on her mowers when needed - Sis changes her own lawn mower oil. With the WD-40, The underside paint has not began to wear away so far. The mower blade looks it has been buffed with a wire brush with no noticeable rusting like most blades tend to do. Probably after the next mowing- We will apply more WD-40 just as we did before. Actually we got the idea from Hanks Garage here on KZbin. We chose the Toro being that it was brand new. I applied the WD-40 to a WeedEater 22inch mower with similar good results. Pam spray on cooking oil also has a similar effect as the WD-40 does.

Thought we might get to see a flywheel key/bent blade replacement, but it wasn't in the cards. I would really like to see a full teardown of that Toro motor. See how the oiler works, if it's a plastic cam and the cylinder liner and rings. You know, how many corners did they cut. I've got an older Toro recycler 3 speed with a funky Briggs motor. I have a 1995 Toro 20476 Super Recycler that someone gave me 5 years ago!. It’s the best push mower I have ever owned! It has electric start and the Briggs and Stratton GTS 150 has a charging circuit too! It has a pressurized lubrication system and the blade clutch and stop is a nice feature! It even has the front mounted dethatcher and a drop fertilizer spreader that sits on the drive wheels. This thing will turn grass blades into dust! It does a better job of mulching than my twin blade Honda! The pyramid shaped air deflectors under the deck are the key to its awesome mulching ability !Just needed a carbatrator rebuild , new battery and a new belt. I'll be sad when this thing eventually craps out! There’s your dinner!
