I expect this mower will last several seasons with decent care. kzbin.infoUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend Also, I ran across the problem with it not starting the 2nd time I used it. There is a safety switch which is pushed in by the chute or mulching piece being attached to the deck. I took the cover off and it wouldn't start. Put it back on, no problem. It takes only a minute with 2 easily accessible wingnuts and no tools. This mower starts up first crank each time and it is a joy to use. It also mows in reverse by putting the key to the reverse area after starting and pushing in the triangular button. It will stay in reverse mode until you turn it off. All in all, for my homeowner needs, I really like this mower-and at 70 bucks a cut here in Miami, it's already more than 1/3 paid for itself in a month.

My 10 months old Toro Timecutter won’t start. Your video pointed me to the right direction. It was the battery. It only had 9v. After charged the battery for a couple of hours, I was happily mowing my lawns. Thank you!

Great explanation from the narrator of this video. It reminds me of when I used to have the same problems with my Kawasaki 550 motorcycle. It used to flood easily. It had a 4 cylinder carb, and one day my dad showed me a trick on what to do about a flooded carburetor. Anyhow, I'm having that same problem with my Toro TimeCutter 5000 zero turn. The earliest chance I get, I will use my dad's concept by unscrewing both spark plugs on the Toro, cleaning them, and cleaning the spark plug cylinder intake before reinstalling the plugs one by one, and trying to start the Toro once again. If this is anything like the problem I had with my motorcycle, this concept will work like a charm. If my dad's idea doesn't work because of a flooded carburetor, then it may be worthwhile thinking to get another carburetor or having a repair shop look at it. In a nutshell, after my dad showed me his concept and I basically mastered how to avoid the flooding or at least starting my motorcycle with a carburetor flooding problem, I was able to start my motorcycle with one spark plug out of four. This same concept should be applied to your zero turn as well if you have that kind of a problem. Crossing my fingers for when I get the chance to try it.

I had this same sproblem yesterday. Mower not used for two years. I suspected the carburetta would be fouled with "gumed" fuel. It would not start. Air filter was heavily blocked. Plug was oily and wet from trying to start. Cleaned air filter with compressed air. Sand blasted plug to clean it and then thoughly cleaned with solvent and compressed air. It would not start. Sprayed aerostart while cranking, engine fired but cut out when aerostart spray stopped. (= Fuel problem). Tried again with sustained aerostart spray. Engine fired (spray stopped) and ran rough until the fresh fuel cleaned the "gumed" jets. Filled the tank with fresh fuel. Two days trouble free mowing. Success! Air (compression), fuel, spark.

I have a 4235 with a Kawasaki enfine. After 2 or 3 cranks and it doesn't start, I take off the choke. It has been slow to fire uo lately, so I gigure I need 2 new sparkplugs. A squirt of starter fluid starts it up right away. Also, Scotty says not to charge a battery with your car running... it can damage the car's sensitive electronics. I usually remive the battery for the winter months and store it inside, usually putting it on a trickle charger right before spring. I always use racing fuel with 100% gas, no ethanol.

I have this exact same mower. My mower would randomly not start with the relay clicking. Sometimes it would start rough and backfire a bit also. I've had the mower 2 years and this started about 6 months after getting it. Recharging the battery didn't solve the problem. And I was constantly recharging the battery as you were in the video. Had it to the dealer twice but it always started for them. After seeing this and checking everything I became suspect of the battery. Toro supplied a 195 cranking amp battery. Other blogs indicate this is way too low. I bought a 340 and the machine fires up immediately every time with no belching or running rough. Runs really smooth. Another blog told me they never use less than a 370! Easy fix after a lot of needless worry. Shame on Toro for supplying such a weak battery. Eliminator Performance

Despite some dislikes and funky comments, this gave me a peek into troubleshooting what I need to look for in a Toro Timecutter 14-382 I'm about to get in a partial trade. Same situation, has run every year after storage except this one, owner has "no idea why". I will definitely run through the steps and post the fix since I didnt see an actual fix here. Hopefully it will help others looking for a definitive answer in this vid. Good job running through the steps and props for the ingenuity with the hair dryer..genius lol.

Treat the gas with stabalizer ;put a fuel line cut-off and run carb dry if sitting for long period. Also use mid octane gas ;only 10% alcohol is my suggestion. New alcohol gases do not store well. I keep a battery maintainer on in storage. Have a can of starter handy anyway.
@sptrader63162 жыл бұрын
As a 50 year mower veteran, 2 things that I do might have prevented this problem. 1st I always have a Battery tender(Not a Charger) on the battery (all year long), so the battery is always fully charged (trickle charged), 2nd, I start my mower every month, for 5 min or so, that puts fresh gas in the carb. Vehicles of any kind don't like sitting for months at a time without being started. One other tip, try to get gas without ethanol in it, it's garbage for small carbureted engines.
@knighthawk868552 жыл бұрын
1st thing always check the oil, to make sure it isn't over full or under, if over most likely gas in the oil, smell the dipstick if you smell gas, the carb needle and seat is allowing fuel into the crank case.

his horseshit about the "flooded plugs" is absurd. a flooded plug doesn't fire when you add starting fluid on top of it. 1 if it WAS a flooding issue, he should have clamped off the fuel supply and did the starting fluid to give a good clean start as 'proof of concept'. 2. floats usually gum-up in the up/off position from sitting meaning, he would not be getting fuel in the bowl. this looks more to me like a coil or safety switch issue causing poor spark. the fact that this is a twin cyl and neither cyl is firing well tells me to look to the nearest common component both cyl share....coil, CDI, safety cutoff etc ....remember that direct starting fluid in intake apply eliminates the carb completely from the equation.

There is a telltale issue most guys don't cover up front. The fuel cuttoff solenoids rust inside especially from crappy cheap gas! Feel the solenoid to see if the solenoid clicks when you turn the key. No click=either bad solenoid or bad battery/connections.

I had this problem. I took off the gas tank, had pine needles and dead insects in it. Washed it in tub, blew it dry with air compressor, rinsed it with gas and emptied. Blew air through all the fuel lines. Then added sea foam to fresh gas in can, and filled tank Made sure battery was fully charged. It started quickly. I think there was something in the fuel pump or carb which the fresh gas fixed.

My Timecutter has had trouble starting ever since ive owned it. Im in Hawai'i and theres no repair shop nearby. I have to use starting fluid spray any time its sat for a few weeks. Yes, im from the south! My problem now is no crank. if I jumped 12V straight to the starter, I've not just bypassed the solenoid, I've bypassed ALL the safety switches? I've replaced my starter, but still, it moves 1/4" and stops. The flywheel turns by hand and spins freely with plugs out. What else could be keeping the flywheel from engaging with the starter? It had been working 2 days earlier

wow very disappointed on this video. as a master tech yes you want to check for spark and air and fuel which he did but one very important thing he missed and actually talked about was the mower sat since august. current fuel has a short life it looses 1 octane rating roughly every 30 days im sure it has 87 octane fuel its sat since august this video was in February that's 6 months which means at best that fuel is now rated at 81 octane. which is hard to burn or run the fuel was bad. bad fuel won't allow a motor to run or run very poorly no power backfire etc... drain tank put in some fresh fuel im sure it would fire up and run with out any issues. yes carb may be dirty but im more focusing my comment on the lack of basics that where left out of this video. always use fuel stabilizer if not used on a regular basis.
@GwinnettLawns3 жыл бұрын
Nope the fuel was fine. Don’t know where you obtained the octane degradation info but it also had fuel stabilizer in it. Also your assumption of using 87 octane was also incorrect as they use 93.
@bobholst874 Жыл бұрын
My bet the culprit after sitting that long with 87 in it is the cutoff solenoid is stuck in the shut off position. Black smoke signifies water in the fuel! Replace shitty gas, replace fuel cutoff solenoid and start that bugger up! That's all I did! The guy gave me his Troy Built 54" Mustang Zeroturn because he couldn't get it to start!
