For anyone trying this. If the bearing is covered by rubber, use a thumb tack to slightly pierce it and work it out without destroying it with the knife. Just did it tonight and the grinding in both of my case fans went away. Good video dude

Worked like a charm even in 2024. Thank you so much. Had to chisel away at the plastic in the way to make a little hole. Two dabs of machine oil. Soaked up the access with a cloth. Slapped the sticker back on. BRAND SPANKING NEW!

thank you, seriously I was able to do this without disconnecting the fan (just unscrewing it) my plastic part came off easily and I just added a dab of oil and using a Q-tip to pick up any extra oil before tesing it when screwing it back in, works like a charm.

@@wiggitywhitefox I left this account inactive for quite some time, sorry about the late reply. But if you have tried it you probably got some extra life out of your fans as well. Mine lasted a good 8-10 months before it started again, oiled it up again and it lasted another 6 months. I probably could have kept going like this just fine, but I upgraded my CPU so I figured might as well upgrade my case fans as well. For anyone new that might be reading this, it works just fine. It depends on you fans quality as well of course, but you can get a few more years out of them if you keep doing it.

its crazy that some fans dont have the re-lubricating port.. i cant come up with any reason why they wouldnt have it.. im sure the insides of case fans are more or less the same so its not like its because it would ruin the fan or something. CPU and GPU fans are different but all case fans should have those rubber caps behind it for relubrication but i suppose then manufacturing that fan would be more expensive for the company etc.

I would not recommend it, though I haven't tried it myself. The issue I have with WD-40 is that, in my experience, it's not the best lubricant; it's a good sealant/protectant for metal, but whenever I apply the stuff to anything else that squeaks (my office chair, for example), the squeaking comes back within a matter of days at times.

If you go on a bike Channel you will see a lot of people make mistake of using WD on bike chains to lube it but instead it does the opposite and cleans everything off as that’s what it’s supposed to do.
