Far and away the best Torqueedo review I've heard. Well done thank you!

Great review. We’ve had a Torqueedo 1103 for about 5 years. It pushes our 8’ Fatty Knees dinghy. The app is the thing that addressed range anxiety for us. To your point about re-thinking how an outboard is used, we regularly remove the Torqueedo when not in use. My wife can hand the parts up to me on the main ship with one hand. After a quick fresh water rinse, it is stowed inside the boat. Aside from a couple of error codes which were easily fixed, we have not had a single problem. It to be a very useful tool for our needs. Sail-on!

I replaced the cheap dead man tether clip with a soft shackle. Much nicer and no rust. Great video. Cheers

We saw your video about two weeks after buying our Torqeedo 1103 and felt doubly happy with our purchase after listening to your opinions. We use our 1103 to get our Shark24 out to the race course Tuesday nights on Lake Ontario. After seeing your video, we purchased a roll-up Quicksilver 260 airdeck dinghy, loaded it into the car along with the Torqeedo and enjoyed boating on First Lake in Lower Sackville whilst visiting family. Brilliant set-up. Would never-ever drive Toronto to Halifax with a petrol outboard in the car.

I am constantly amazed that my experience of being in the dinghy has been so transformed by the change to electric. my latest tip though is to make sure you have a spare propellor with you at all times as well - I made a small slip with my outboard the other day.. and SNAP! one bladed prop - and suddenly totally useless. they are $99 from the manufacturers :) enjoy your silent boating !

@@CSMtheMariner funny you should say that. I inadvertently purchased two spare propellers. Currently trying to sell one for $60 on Facebook but it’s a very niche market. All the best!

Great review. Ive just bought one for my Drascombe coaster, due to health problems i found pulling the start cord on my petrol engine very painful, so although its build quality is not as solid as a petrol engine plus its range and ability to cope with choppy sea conditions may be more of some concern, over all i'm very happy with it and pleased i changed to electric.

Iv'e got a 19' alacrity, what power works on yours?

@@ppilot41 I bought a Torqeedo, great engine and with a spare battery, all was great, but sadly i had to sell it and get a Honda 6hp petrol as i found the rivers run just too hard for it to cope with. Mind you the coaster is quite heavy, plus i added 80kg of extra lead shot in the cabin bilges. But i know on a alacrity it will be fine. fair winds to yo.

Hmm... I hate outboard engines and I consider rowing over having one of those little pests. But this made me interested.

It’s over a year now since I bought the Torqueedo, except that it’s a little more easily damaged than a metal/ gas outboard - it’s pretty much made our little Walker Bay 8ft tender my favourite boat…. And I used to agree with you about the rowing!

If you think that set up is pretty wonderful you’re going to be amazed first time you get in a decent row boat with a good pair of oars.

A “little more expensive” ??? 🤣. When I win the lottery, I’ll consider one of these. They need to work on drastically lowering the price on these. People just can’t afford them.🤷🏻‍♂️

I agree - mostly- however, I have to say here in Canada fossil fuel powered outboard engines are ridiculously expensive - like two or three times more than I would expect in the US or Uk. Even a 10 year old 3-4hp four stroke will easily command $1000. So, whilst I agree with you that prices need to drop I would say the difference is much smaller in some territories than in others. Added to this government guides lines preventing the sale of gasoline / diesel powered cars in the next 10 years in many counties will accelerate both interest and production (thereby lowering costs) of electric drive trains for the marine industry in the very near future. Watch this space - but from personal experience - get ready for a very pleasant surprise WHEN you make the changeover!

We faced a choice of £3500 pa for a pontoon or £1200 for an e-prop and a mooring. No spilled fuel in the back of a saloon car, no flooded engine, no pull-start, reliability and oh yea no spilled oil in the environment. No question - we're more than pleased with our kit.

Ironic that an electric outboard motor made mostly of plastic (petroleum product) purchased by people who think they’re helping the environment.
Are electric outboards worth the extra cost?
