eprop is direct drive, torq involved a gearbox no?

I own the torqeedo and it's much quieter out of the water, probably the same case with the other one too.

I've had my Torqeedo 1003s since the end of the 2013 season. I like the motor. I hope it lasts a while. I bought it pre-owned and need to replace the battery, which lasts half what a new one is. But at this age for the battery, not shocking. Batteries are real expensive. I'd love to find a way to refurbish it, but I haven't heard of anything. I had a Minnkota motor previously. The extra noise is of little concern. It's only louder at the faster settings, and used at Minnkota slower speeds most of the time. To me, a competitor should offer a less expensive alternative, not a more expensive one like the ePropulsion. The market can use a less expensive lithium powered motor. I needed a stronger motor to get my boat through currents, strong winds, etc. With the Minnkota, I had to worry about getting back if the conditions weren't what I expected. I hear a lot more about Torqeedo than ePropulsion. I'd be hesitant to go with a company I hear even less about, for even more money for a similar product.

@Peter Aremone What are AGM batteries, and are they are small and light weight as the Torqeedo batteries, and fully water proof? I have to deflate my boat for each use, and pack it to my trunk. To add a solar panel I'd have to custom make a bimi. It would be even more things to setup each time I use it, and take up more room in the car. Torqeedo's own solar panels like their batteries are very expensive. A 2nd battery would be a better investment as I'm not likely to exceed the range of two batteries in a single trip, unless I was going to go for several days without recharging which is pretty unlikely. My boat is also designed to paddle as a kayak and I have a full sail rig for it. Three different propulsion methods provide a decent range, but still not that of gasoline unless the winds are just right. The sail rig is only installed 15 - 20% of the time due to set up time, and a bimi would be incompatible with both installed at once. I'd rather take the time to setup the sail rig and get free energy than a solar panel.

@Peter Aremone Those cost as much as getting a 2nd 915 battery. My boat is transported by sedan with no trailer. Everything has to be light weight, and gasoline smell free. My boat is more narrow than a regular dinghy and it is designed for paddling as a kayak with better performance than some other inflatable kayaks. It's sort of a hybrid design similar to a very narrow Zodiac, an inflatable kayak, and a Sunfish or Sea Snark sailboat all in one. Took a look on KZbin for a Sea Eagle Paddleski. I have a video or two up myself, the one with the sail rig is when I had a trolling motor. Very few inflatable kayaks can handle a motor as heavy and powerful as a Torqeedo 1003s. If you look up the sailing abilities, you'll see people that fly these boats on trips to foreign countries and sail them for 100 miles. Transported by bus even. One person has one in Greenland and going on 3 day trips sailing it around icebergs. The video titled "big sail Sea Eagle Paddleski" demos the sailing ability and has some good photography. Most people buy this boat to use a kayak paddle with. There is no other boat similar to this except Saturn's KaBoat,. KaBoat can handle an even larger motor, but is not designed to be kayaked the way the Paddleski is and I enjoy kayaking. The ability to on a single trip to kayak, sail and motor is unique, and then to fit it all in a sedan even more impressive. My boat has been used around 400 times at over 100 locations, inflated for each use in the past decade and has traveled the east coast of the USA at least twice. One time even transported via plane for free to the Florida Keys with Sail Rig (the motor wasn't allowed on the plane).

@Peter Aremone @Peter Aremone Sure some of them can use electric motors, but like the 403 AC, that motor is 1/3 to 1/4th as powerful as the Torqeedo 1003s. It's equivalent to a 1 HP gasoline motor. The 1003 is equivalent to the speed of a 3 HP and the power of a 4 HP. That can make a big difference out on the ocean as I've experienced going directly against riptides and the surf, currents, wind, etc. Not to mention the speed difference. That motor is better suited for a hard shell kayak with a trailer. The 1103 is even a tad faster, but my boat maxes out at 2/3 throttle anyway.

What is the technical explanation for the difference in noise levels? Is it things like armature or bearings?

I think he's pointing out the noise difference for people who want to switch to electric for the noise reduction from gas. Wouldn't be good to trade my noisy gas motor for a noisy electric one.

The Torqueedo is way above the ePropulsion in build quality. Out of the two I'd go Torqueedo hands down. Although I pick a Ray Electric outboard above everything else in that class of thrust

Not mentioned is the added fact that the Torqeedo makes not just a louder sound, but an ANNOYING sound -- a high-pitched whine is much worse than the sound the ePropulsion makes or even a gas outboard.

I don't like torqueedo either. not only because they are MUCH too loud, the gearing mechanism causing the noise should not be necessary to obtain proper efficiency, if the brushless motor is well designed and driven by a good controller. So it was important, if ANY "silent" competitor reaches the same efficiency. Or boat speed @ current consumption.

ePorpulsion technologicall far away from torqedo.. 1-batary connection with plastic pin by torqeedo is really technologicall fail.If you loose it is gone..It is not floating. ePropulsion Battery bigger capacity,easy connection and floating. 2-TWO wire connection of torqeed makes many connection failures.ePropulsion only one wire connection. 3-control panel of torqeedo create many problem due to connection while mounting..ePropulsion rigit on the main body so eliminate connection problem 4-ıf you check silent test torqedo reach 74dsb full power while ePropulsion only 48dsb

ha ha ha ha so much wrong with this "test" what a joke! bwaaha ha hahaha... I don't support either companies products, just came for info and found this joke. starting with using phone mic (which uses error correction and sound compression to optimise voice quality). Then it is set on a metal "platform" on the same stand as the vibrating motors, then the motors are run at two different and random velocities, then the distance between them and phone is random. then they are not in water, then they are not attached to a boat, in short this isn't even a fake test, its like comparing a fighter plane against a random car...no friction, jet engine , etc etc... a massive funny joke.

The speed and weight of these tell me one thing..They get stolen in no time, they won't last.. See, an engine is an engine..No matter what engine, what date , you will be able to buy parts or make your own.. How about electric engine?? Cost 100 times as much as the gasoline engines we know, if it breaks it ends up in trash..Hmmm is it worth it?? HELL NO! STAY AWAY FROM THIS SHIT!
@8Jory6 жыл бұрын
With enough technical knowledge to not hold the soldering iron by the hot end you can repair quite a few electrical motor problems. Especially with the level of electronics in these things. It's a pwm controller in most cases, not rocket surgery.
@8Jory6 жыл бұрын
Sorry that came off a bit dickish, but it's really not hard if you've already got the technical mind to repair gas engines. The level of technology isn't that high no matter what crap the sales guy tries to feed you about how great their motor is.
