We love LaMata. We are UK based but have a little place up the hill a bit, not far from the Queen Missisippi. There seems to be 3 seasons. July and August which is heaving with Spanish tourists, many from Madrid with holiday homes. It is the busiest time, but it is great to see the beach full and hear Spanish spoken everywhere. (Easter week is similar). May and June then September and October is full of brits and Scandinavian tourists. Not as busy as July and August but not quite as hot. More like a perfect English summer. Still a lovely place for a holiday. November to March is really quiet . Pretty much just locals and owners like us who can't stand to be away from the place for too long. The place has a different feel at different times of the year, but I love all of them for different reasons.

With respect, as a fellow British "immigrant" to Spain I detest use of the word "expat" to describe people from the UK who have made the choice to move here. No one ever referred to my stepfather, an exile from the Russian gulags, nor my Indian, Pakistani and Afro-Carribean friends, as expats, more usually they were and are called "bloody foreigners". The term "expat" is, sorry to say, used by British immigrants to falsely differentiate themselves from people often vilified in their own country, in some cases by they themselves, when their status is exactly the same.

So very true about expat,...... we are immigrants
@ScottishCoupleInSpain2 жыл бұрын
Expat - “denoting or relating to a person living outside their native country.”… Certainly not meant by us as an insult. It’s simply what we are. Immigrants and expats.
@HeidiPriest2 жыл бұрын
@@ScottishCoupleInSpainThe words themselves aren't of much help. An expat or expatriate is simply defined as a person who lives outside their native country. Similarly, an immigrant is a person who comes to live permanently in a foreign country. Only one distinction is made here - immigrants intend to stay in their new country indefinitely

so no plans to move back you a immigrant, I am a immigrant

@@ScottishCoupleInSpain With respect, nothing is that simple. If it is, , why was my exiled Ukrainian stepdad who fought and was wounded in the Middle East and Italy with the British Army in WWII never referred to as an "Expat", not to mention the EU and Commonwealth citizens, many doing essential jobs in the NHS and other public services? The day everybody, like you and me, seeking a better life, albeit in the UK, is called an "Expat" rather than, as we have heard recently from the UK Minister for (Expats ??) " Invaders" I'll be more relaxed about the term.

Great informative video again! Where would you suggest spending winter, between the months of December to February. We recently stayed in Cabo and really enjoyed it along with La Zenia, but obviously we saw it during the summer. Thanks a lot 👍🏻

Down that way is great and has more on at that time of year. But check out Torrevieja for the parades during Christmas and 3 kings day in January. Barry.

the beaches of the Spanish Mediterranean are mass-tourismed in July and August. Much better are the northern beaches. Tourism is more select and the atmosphere is much calmer and stately. A beach in Asturias, Cantabria or Galicia is much calmer Spectacular, with a mixture of green mountains, extensive beaches and the Cantabrian Sea, more active and energetic than the Mediterranean.

Very informative for those who like these areas. I have to say too many bland high rises despite a lovely beach of which there are so many in Spain. Personally I like an area close to an "Old Town" where there is a bit of culture, locals and history. I would soon get bored with these areas.

No offence but alot of the costa del sol other than torremolinos and benal is so much nicer than that area. La mata and Torreveija are kind of dumps. At least behind the main strips. Even if they just cleaned it up and removed graffiti it would feel alot better.
